Tried to follow the instructions, but I don't see any icon for panorama after the install. (I remember now I once actually had the .deb and even after installing that it still didn't show)
Any hints what might be wrong?

Try in X-Terminal:

dpkg -L panorama
Do you have /usr/share/applications/hildon/panorama.desktop ?
