Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

Please will the organisers of the competition be aware of an "app" called "Nokia N900 Smartphone Performance Efficient Enhance Optimization Tune-Up Utilities".

The source of the code is dubious to say the least, and the author has failed to disclose what code is orignal and what has been copied/stolen from elsewhere.

Please refer to this thread for the full story.

can I check "individuals" does this mean a sole developer??

Someone has kindly offered coding assistance for "Take It away Marco", but I am a little wary this might disqualify it as an entry (though is it bad sport to post 2 anyway?)

Also is the extension official now? The wiki stll says 30th june

I assume it's similar to last year, and we had a couple of projects enter with 2 developers. The disinction being that it's really not for companies or professional development teams to enter. It's a little unclear, hopefully zehjotkah will confirm. Then we can probably rewrite that part of the wiki to make it clearer.

It should be noted, though, that it's most likely prizes would be per winning project and not necessarily per developer.. so if you win a prize you'll need to work out how to split that amongst yourselves :P

Sounds like it, so I'll go ahead and change the ending date to July 31st.

I recall that teams may enter the competition, but must nominate an individual as the sole winner of any prize.

I want to confirm what kojacker and marxian have posted (thanks!).

We just don't want companies like EA to enter the competition because it wouldn't be fair. So if you're coding for a living and the project entering the competition is part of the company you're working at -> no, sorry.
If you're coding for a living and the project entering the competition is made at home (or at work, we don't care what you're doing at work; alone or together with others) and not part of the company you're working at -> yes, please.

And yes, the prizes are per project, not per person. If you want to share the prizes with the ones who helped you, go ahead, but you need to specify one who will receive the entire amount, or the device, because we don't want to waste time for complex prize distributing.

Yes, you wanted the extension, you get it. It's official. I just haven't had the time to change it anywhere, be it the wiki or the submission site..

I've asked Jaffa to mention the competition extension in next weeks Maemo Weekly News, pls have a look and make sure Ive got the details right :) I don't know anything about the prizes other than whats on the wiki, so I hope I haven't over-promised anything! :p We have until next week to edit/change whatever we need :)

everyone else:
should we delete this submission? we don't have rules regarding potential malware or dubious source codes...

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

I read the thread mentionned and I agree to delete the submission, but well if you don't have the kind of rules you said, then he doesn't break any official rules.

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

Not having rules doesn't mean we can't delete that because of being malware. I haven't tested that App or script or whatever (for obvious reasons), is there any evidence that this thing is against any legal rights or rules or could cause problems with your N900? Then we'd have a good reason to delete it, but just delete it because someone (potential competitiors) asked to delete it wouldn't be fair...

That's why the QA process on extras rulez :D
BTW by reading the app thread there are a lot concerns about what this app do, so I will say yes to delete it.
