I understand your doubting, as I went through a bit of the same myself...

...*a bit*. The "don't esitate" part did the trick for me. :)

I joined the competion as a way to improve my motivation to work on my pet project by having a deadline and a judgement, and it is working splendidly! But I would be toying with my N900 none the less.

My project is fun and I find it very useful for my daily commute, but it is in no way grandiose. I do not know what you are working on, but if you are anything like me you are probably underestimating your effort.

So I decided to let the Meego Community decide on this issue; if there are other developers more worthy of the developer kit than me, so be it; but you cannot find out if you do not try.

Donation update (sorry for the delay, I was away with my girl since friday and I prefer to not lurk around the web when we have the possibility to spend some quality time together).

20,00 € by (no nickname specified)

Thanks a lot!

I have applied myself for a N950 development kit but I really doubt to get one. :(
I know too much potential good MeeGo developers and great maemo contributors around here.

250 devices are in my opinion far too few. If I could simply buy it I would immediately. ;)

I know, Nokia is afraid because of the Keyboard and the warranty issue.
In my opinion they should simply create a N9 developer program on their own site. 1000€ fee for the first year to get access to the Ovi Store and the developer who applies gets a N950 for free without warranty and without support. Problem solved. If it gets broken it was a free donation.

I have soon 2 weeks vacation and al lot of Ideas, Ideas, Ideas... hard times at the moment. :(
If I don't get one I hope the guy that gets my device creates something really cool and useful out of it for my N9. I hope the best...

You did the right thing applying, you just never know :) in my humble opinion your development CV gives you as good a chance as anyone, so good luck!

Quim mentioned on the MeeGo forum thread that there are about 3x applications as number of devices. Im interested to know if anyone has learned they will receive a device yet? Post here so we can send our competition entries to you for testing.. i mean.. cough.. so we can congratulate you!:D

Just added my entry to the competition. You can visit its website for videos.

Its a simple memory game where you must remember the order of the flashing lights and then repeat it. After each sequence its gets one light longer. Here's a screenshot:

Thanks, Kojacker!

Sometimes I really need this kind of feedback... in my own opinion I have still not enought skills... or not that much skills I want to get myself. I'm still learning every day more and more and I can't see a end. ;)
But perhaps you're right... I've learned a lot the past 2 years with maemo and now MeeGo... I got used to Linux (normaly I work only with Windows and the .NET framework - never touched Linux before), I learned python and learned again C and now C++ together with Qt. Don't forget the packaging and moreover I have improved my english skills... :D (I hope for you I have... ;))

So, whatever will happen with my application to the N9 development kit program. I have learned a lot because of maemo and from this community. So it was anyway a big win for myself. With a MeeGo Device or without. :)

And as written in the Nokia N950 Devkit thread:
I hope if I got elected nobody will hunt me down only to get their finger on this piece of technology... :D

We are frequently asked if the Nokia N950 will be available as prize.
As stated earlier: No.
I'll quote what I wrote at the MeeGo forum:

If you want any other device just write us an email, we already have sent out some devices.

Also at the moment, MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan is not taking part (I repeat), _NOT_ taking part at the MeeGo Coding Competition.
We have to test every submitted app and then approve those apps to be eligible before the voting process starts.
As nobody of the organizers does have access to a N9 or N950 at the moment, we can't test MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan apps and therefore they won't be accepted.
This *will* change as soon as at least one of the organizers gets access to a MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan device.

I hope you understand that.

It looks like this will be discussed at today's meeting (today is the deadline for applications), so we should find out soon enough. :)
