I'd be happy to test your application, once I receive my device. :) IMO, as you actually have your own applications to bring to the Harmattan platform, you are more deserving of an N950 than at least one successful applicant (take a look through the list, and you'll see who I'm referring to ). I'm sure this applies to several other unsuccessful applicants.

I don't know who are you referring to, but keep in mind that the N950 is not only distributed to developers but also to community members who have done a lot for the community and plan to continue to do so.
I'd love to see everyone getting a N950 but sadly that's not possible..

It's tough to give those away to the best people, or maybe i should say impossible. Hopefully nokia asks for them to be retuned in the event someone doesn't utilize it properly. It might be too late to give to someone else though. Oh well, it's still 250 chances of getting some better apps.
I'm more worried about the thousands they're giving or selling to 'commercial developers'. I would trust those guys a lot less...

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

Please don't think it was sour grapes... I really don't think I was offering much to the community... and I am certain every recipient, (and many others ahead of me who didn't receive the device) were bringing more to the table.

Only that as I continue development on my (very much) hobby projects it would be nice to have confirmation if the work easily translates (which probably does only require a thumbs up, or down from someone willing to spend 2 minutes testing once I get it running on the remote access device).

It certainly was NOT my intention to start any form of flame war or point fingers and say "why did they get one"

Yeah dude all I can say is they shouldn't have capped the # of devices for us, I only half exepected to get one because of this. If I didn't get one I was going to refuse to port Conky until I get an n9, and withdraw from the competition because I won't dare submit something that I can't test properly. Simulator runs my app but it crashes with what looks likelinker errors, missing libraries or some **** when i run on n900. I refuse to run meego on my n900, i appreciate the effort but iam not interesteded. Anyways i am probably drunk and should stop typimg. Lol. I'm in calgary right now, canada day. Eh? I'm hanging at "Beir Haus" and had a shitload of awesome beer from around the world. Favorite so far is hockley dark, the flavor is pretty surprising for a dark ale... Hmmmm that's pretty off topic :P
-edit-
i'm also wondering why so many 950s went to people with european names, there are a lot of developers around the world.
How many n950s went to north america, not that it matters to me personally. I am just a little curious if nokia might be right to skip releasing the n9 over here. :(

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

TPD wins the plonker prize for the 4th year running! I hadn't realized the initial list wasn't exhasutive! So looks like I'm in, (unless they have chosen to take the device away for idiocy)!

Given I was desperately trying to get someone to test my apps... it seems rude not to offer the same service to anyone else who has a project that they need testing?

Check the list, mate. The person I'm referring to is a developer. One that did not have the common decency to inform me that he was planning on porting my work. His application was based on that, which is probably why he kept it to himself. I had the pleasant experience of discovering his intentions when I read through the list, and my name was not there at the time, so you can imagine my reaction. My point is that there are other developers that have their own applications that they would like to bring to Meego/Harmattan, and they should get priority over someone that gets a device on the basis of someone else's work.

I'm not questioning the value of application testing, platform evangelism etc. These form an important part of raising the profile of Harmattan. :)

Hi marxian,
Sorry, I didn't meant to question your intentions. I see it like you, that it's not right to gain something because of the work of others.
But I don't question any of the receipients because then I'd question Quims decisions, something I'd never do... ;)
