Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

Okay, there are no Desktop Widgets at MeeGo, they are not future-proof and hence nearly no new development happens...

Please note for the next competition:
We should perhaps annonce only the number of categories we have.
After we got all submission, a committee should create and name the categories and sort the applications into those groups to ensure we have in every group nearly the same number of competitors.
Is this a good idea or would this create a bounce of confusion for the developers?

Welcome weekend! :D
Welcome community! ;)
Welcome Coding Competition... :)

While zehjotkah is still recovering I read a part of our wiki page. And there is still a lot not correct. Have a look: Prizes

I guess I should change our first prize from "MeeGo Conference in November" to "next MeeGo Conference". But if I remember correctly we had a assurance to receive 10 N900 devices? They are still not in this list. And had we already decided how to split those?

From the last contact with the Qt Community Program, I've received a positive feedback so there should be no problem to have the promised n900s. The problem is how to split those, any suggestion ?

Finally we got 4 submissions at the Desktop categorie. And they are very different. I'm eager to see which could be the best.
I like all of them, so it's hard to decide. :)

I made a suggestion several weeks ago, but perhaps not enought liked it or it was to complex. :(

I guess the trip is for the first place, the N900 would be for the second place and the donations for the 3rd... am I right?
Have we a 4th place this time, btw?

What about this Idea for the 10 N900 problem:
We have currently in our biggest category 20 submissions. So the chance to win there something is the lowest. What about having two second places at this big category?

At at all except the games categories:
1. Place - the trip
2. Place - N900
3. the bounty

At the games categories:
1. Place - the trip
2(a). Place - N900
2(b). Place - N900
3. the bounty

In my opinion a fair solution. Games are not made within 2 hours, and the chance to win in this categorie is lower than in others because of the number of submissions.

Or just give the additional N900 simply to me! I would take care and make good use of it... :D

Ah, and I'm able to remember zehjotkah said there would perhaps be something from intel for our competition, but only for the MeeGo x86 and Both submissions. Any news about this?

Currently the submissions are viewed chronologically arranged. The latest submissions at the top.

Are the order in the list during the voting displayed somehow randomized?

Currently could early birds be somehow handicapped because they have filled in their submission first...

Still anybody out there? :)
Was there a natural disaster last week? There's nothing at the news! :D

Well, 5 projects could be enought and it is anyway only made for a very special target audience.

You should have added your DreamRemote project to the competition. I can't test it because of the missing Hardware - but it seems to work great and compared to other Projects are 5 hours of work and progress indeed a lot!

Here is a already discussed example:
Flashlight Applet - (great application, thanks to the creator, I love it) - but the last update was 25.01.2011! - long before the competition began and only a update for the french translation file - I would evaluate this as a minor change to this application.

Edit: I would say we should remove this application from the list of participants - if there are significant changes and updates that I can't see at the moment I have to apologize, please point me to those - in this case we should move this great applet to the Desktop categorie. :)

Ofcourse :p But the problem is that I don't think anyone knows what will happen in the next stage except zehjotkah - so maybe no-one else knows how to answer any of your specific questions at this time  I hope the next stage will start soon.

Yes, the final answer for specific questions does only zehjotkah know. I hope he will read my posts carefully to miss nothing.

But I would like to hear especially your opinion about some points, kojacker. What about the 10 N900 for our 9 categories problem? Do you like my suggestion regarding the games categorie? What about my suggestion to have a additional "only participants" voting from last May - or do you have a own idea how to solve this? :)

We can't decide. But we should start the discussion and think about possibilities...

As far as I remember someone gave a nice idea about making the developers able to voting for the best app, in term of code. So we can consider to give the extra n900 to this winner.
