This is exactly the rude style that has created a lot of your current problems inside this community.

You want to participate, this has nothing to do with the user Jedi. I tried simply to help you understanding where are currently the problems located.

And regarding the GPL, if you use open source code inside your project you have to respect the GPL, even if you don't want to create yourself a open source project.

Back to on-topic. When will the voting start? As I understood it will work like the community council voting, right?

Yes, everyone with the right to vote (check the rules) will get an email with the link to the voting page.
I hope to start the voting process this week. First we have to check all submissions and then put together the voting process.

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

Before the voting starts I guess we have to clear out the submissions site.
I gone thru the list. We have a lot of application we know from last years competition or applications well known in this community since a long time. But as far as I was able to check and remember all of those made some progress during the competition timeframe.

Are anyone able to find a breach of our rules at a project?

I read your wiki page. It sounds promising. Have you currently absolutely no piece of working code? :(
In this case my personal list of applications to remove before the vote starts would rise to 3 applications. :(

Here is the current list of application we have to consider if we should remove it: (alphabetic sequence)
Any other concerns?

Basically I'm accussed to be not a trusty person? Or what it's the problem? Virus? It's not a Virus. Did I break GPL. Not at all.

Have you read the thread just a little bit? I seems that not.
We can't see any differences between the script you've done already before the competition started and the one submitted at the submission site. It. Is. The. Same.
The rules (link: http://wiki.maemo.org/MeeGo_Coding_C...ion_2011#Rules) say the following:
Quote:

All applications, which are created and uploaded during the duration of the Competition will take part in the election. For existing programs, only progress which has been made during the Competition will be considered. When porting apps, only the work of porting will be considered, unless the original program is from the same programmer and was developed or extended in the Competition timeframe.
Your app: existing -> progress will be judged -> no progress -> no participation.
As easy as it sounds.

I'm kinda speechless of your childish behavior.

btw: of course anyone still can clean up the submissions page, like uploading the latest binary or add a binary or screenshots if forgotten.
You just need a way to prove that you've actually done anything and we have to be able to test it... Nobody could vote for you if your app can't be tested.

No, I meant that I can't understand how a person can take clear, predefined rule as a personal attack and act like a five years old.
Remembering the stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance.
We were able to see every single one.

Can we please go back to topic now?

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

Why disappeared the link to the submission page at meetmeego.org, zehjotkah? :)
Meetmeego.org was my entry point to reach this important site. :D

I have just edited one of my submission texts. Only a minor change and I hope it is okay after the deadline. I want to clarify that the users are now already able to download the newest BashORGquotations also from Intels AppUp store to their ExoPC's. :)

Btw. you're able to check: I submitted already 2 applications to AppUp. So I tried to made good use of the Intel Lenovo S10-3t even if I had a really rough start with this device and the developer environment. It's now my main developing machine for MeeGo. (and a lot faster than my Desktop, yes, I guess it's time for a new machine since ages)
Thanks again for all your work and effort!

I kindly ask the submitter to remove the app, or explain which changes are planned to be made.

By the way...what happens if i make an update now the competition has ended. I want to release space invaders 0.4.0, which includes some minor enhancement (pauses when put into background, and a new icon)

I think, for the safety of the competition to not get more in trouble, you'd better wait until the voting process end (hopefully you have to wait one more week or so)

piggz 2011-08-13 17:56

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

oops, i updated it before your post (didnt want n900 users to not have the same version as n950 :)...if it matters for the competition, the only change is the icon, and the pause when put into the background :)

Helmuth 2011-08-13 20:28

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

I guess if your update is only about minor fixes and a changed icon you should be fine. But the fairness in mind you should reduce the updates only to updates for dangerous bugs or at example if youtube or twitter change their api and your application wouldn't work during the voting. (wasn't your fault in this case)

You could and should still continue the development. But wait with the relases until the voting ends. Only my opinion, but I hope it makes sense. :)

Hi All,

Just want to let you know that my app location2sms which is taking part in the coding competition passed Nokia QA several days ago. Now it is available for free download from Nokia Ovi Store for Symbian and MeeGo Harmattan devices.

10x,
Leon

No news,

Dave is in vacation and will be back this week.
He seems to be the only one able to set up the voting process.
No word from Reggie.

Is this using maemo.org/vote? Raise a Bugzilla ticket, anyone at Nemein (including X-Fade & bergie) should be able to add to it.

Oooookay, overwhelming in the first read. I'm already not sure if I understood the second paragraph correctly... Not to mention the rest of the wiki...

Please ask if you need help. I will try my best, but I guess I need a detailed briefing before I'm able to support you. :(

Where is texrat if we need him? :D I read something database related at a twitter post from him... seeeeveral weeks ago but it seems that he had fun. I guess he could help us a lot with his background knowledge. :)

Hi. I assume sending the link means Dave is not available.

A couple weeks ago I solicited Council members for someone to supervise the next election and got no response. :( I would do it, but I am doing an unequal amount of council work these days and will probably run for Council again anyways.

X-Fade can probably do it. But if there's no objection, maybe we can widen the list to past council members and other trusted community members and hopefully someone will volunteer to do the coding competition vote and the next election vote.

What is the date range for the coding competition vote?

He said he is quite busy doing paid work.
Yesterday he wrote: "You wouldn't need to create a database, you'd just need someone who has access to the database server. There is a list here, and it includes Henri Bergius, Niels Breet and a bunch of others."

I simply don't know what I have to do.
Date range of the vote: a week or two?

I wouldn't be so sure about the smart part ;) but we should develop a solution.

One thing for the competition itself to figure out without waiting for Council is whether the vote should be one week or two. Another thing is the timing. The next Council meeting is currently scheduled for September 6 although it could change. The regular maemo.org election starts September 22. If a two week coding competition vote started on September 9, it would run into the regular election and I would want to avoid the confusion.
