I've asked that the vote continue using karma as a filter.

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

The problem with opt-in or a forum software based voting would be that nearly nobody would be aware of the voting.
With an email-notification we'd get voters who otherwise probably wouldn't test and vote the apps...

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

How about filtering on last activity date? Like only send emails to members who've been active on tmo for the past 6 months or so? That should reduce the number of emails by quite a bit, and make the voting more relevant.

Yes... and having Karma of a given level, 100 I believe? Not everyone posts to tmo so that alone shouldn't be the sole filter (IMO), especially seeing as this is actually a Meego competition. But, by logging on shows interest in the community, which is what such a competition is all about so the combination of TMO/FMC* activity AND Karma would probably be good enough, wouldn't it?

100 was the requirement to be a candidate in the voting. Anyone with 10 or more Karma could vote for community council.

From: Council election Q1 2011

Candidates need to have a karma of 100 or higher; voters need to have a karma of 10 or more.

Hi again,

how many emails you'd have to send if everyone with karma 10 or above OR with forum activity within the last six month would be able to vote?

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

Well at least I would be pi*sed if any karma requirement is set. Until yesterday I thought that the karma thing was only for wiki edits and program testing and such. Now I've noticed that you could link the TMO account with the community account and get karma for your posts/thanks *after* doing the linking (although I haven't yet noticed any change).

So I'd be quite disappointed if I were not allowed to vote. But anyway, donation is donation, and I don't want it back in any case.

That's why I asked if it is possible to let members vote who were active in the past six months additionally to the >10 karma points members.

@zehjotkah,

Thanks. Was referring to @SD69 (#681), @demolition (#684) and @mmlado (#685). Made be scared, you know :)

Filtering out the users with below 10 karma would make around 5007 emails.

Unfortunately we don't have this information, you should contact Reggie Suplido about that. (the guy behind talk.maemo.org)

Anyone wants to contact Reggie?
I'm currently fully loaded with work at work.

I've sent Reggie a PM. Hope he'll read it :)

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

A threshold of 10 karma (same as voting in maemo council elections) sounds fine to me, and obviously 5007 emails (presumably times 9 if they cannot combine) sounds a lot better than 57000 (times 9). Are they willing to send out to that many?

(What about meego.com members who aren't also members of maemo.org)?

dwaradzyn 2011-11-09 16:45

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

I am very cool with 10 of karma. It is much better restriction than account creation date because it will disallow the use of all those accounts created only to vote for competition last year.

Don't contact Reggie.

You are clear for voting. If you haven't already, please send the text for the 9 emails to ferenc at maemo(dot)org. Don't assume that, if you sent the text before, then it is in the hands of the right individual. Send the text again.

who would vote?
a small percentage of the userbase with karma above 100? this userbase is mostly coming from the old days and not active anymore. wouldn't make any sense.
I asked to reduce the karma to 10 or above and include the users who were active in the past six months, which makes a lot more sense.

edit: I resent the files.

Or active dating back to the start of the contest...

I'll wait today if Reggie writes back.
If not I'll tell Nemein to proceed with karma 10 or above.

Hey, I just received an automatic e-mail with instructions about the the voting. Congrats for setting it up! :)

In category for Location & Navigation I plan to vote for my own app. But now I have the pleasant and yet tough challenge to choose my preferred apps in the other categories :) Good luck to all participants!

jepp, got one too...
hmmm...
well, then it's over, soon. ;)

edit:
leon.anavi does have 11 karma points (http://maemo.org/profile/view/leonanavi/), that means that everyone with over 10 karma points should have got an email. :)

I'm currently trying to remember all of those great projects... :) the meetmeego server seems to be currently under heavy load so I'm unable to have a look at the screenshots which applications I have already used in the past. :D Okay, 14 days to go...

sorry!

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

I got an email to my maemo.org registered address, but not to the (different) meego.com one.

I don't believe some very advanced AI was able to de-dupe the accounts (the usernames are also different), and according to the rules, meego.com users should also be eligible to vote. This is the MeeGo Coding Competition 2011 after all, just saying ;-)

(Not bothered either way personally, and not going to be voting myself as the entries seem almost exclusively geared towards Qt/ARM and I don't have any N9* device)

some time ago we got notified that including meego.com users is not possible...
just haven't changed that in the wiki...
you know... lack of time and so on^^

but there are some apps for the N900 and for meego x86...
when the server is back online you should check them. you can sort by platform to make your life a little bit easier...

Just noticed that Maemo is still listed among target devices when submitting to Ovi/Nokia Store. Didn't try whether it works, though. So it could be possible to submit Maemo apps to the store to qualify for the first prize after all...

Great that the voting is finally on! :)

Re: MeeGo Coding Competition 2011

And http://competition.meetmeego.org/ is back online. :)
Sorry again.

If someone has some spare time, the "travel to MeeGo Conference"-price in the wiki could be changed into the "one Nokia N9 for each category" prize .

edit: already changed... ;)

Yeah, "I don't have any N9* device" includes the N900 :-)

and for meego x86...
A grand total of 7 across all categories. Voting by looking exclusively at that subset would just skew the results for no good reason.

Mmmh... thats not correct. At least two of my applications (ClipMan and BashORGquotations) are aviable for MeeGo x86, too. :)

And a lot of the other projects are also aviable for "both" platforms. :)

Is there one page with the download links?
There are applications where I can not find the download.
inner-spin for example, and some apps like billiardos are
in "both" platforms but I only see the x86 deb.

And it is not obvisously if an "arm" deb file is for
meego or maemo (if it isn't properly build, the .desktop file
is wrong for maemo/meego and an application icon wont show)

Ah, but "both" in this case means "MeeGo 1.2 and maemo" :-/

That would be one reason to rank other apps better than these.
What appears on the details page of each app (including the download) is up to the submitter.
So if the submitter made it easy for you, just rank the app better. ;)

I'm missing Reverstris Lite. It is not in the Games section. Haven't they participated?
