Re: Actually Using Maemo?

We will soon have meego/maemo 6 available on the N900 and with the latest developements re meego UI it could well become the default os rather than just the a developers/power users (is that most of us anyway?) os, should meamo 5 ever starts to become too dated an os. That is assuming there are still sufficent users of the N900 around at that time.

The Maemo UX (so called Hildon) is continued as Cordia. You can take a look at this,

The aim is to be able to run Hildon with no modified GTK on any architecture (x86 and ARM) running Meego Core.

Hildon is also available for Debian ARM packages.

It's fair to say the situation is complicated then!

Could maemo run on the pre phones? I thought they used the same hardware?

Looks intersting but without full data on the N900 hardware nothing OS wise will run as it should do as people have learned to expect from Nokia mobiles.

Palm Pre.

Actually they are similar to the N900 which is the reason why Preenv exists.

From the Preenv thread:
Quote:

  • The Palm Pre has a OMAP3430
  • The Palm Pre has a PowerVR SGX and OpenGL ES 2.0 libs
  • The Palm Pre is running GNU/Linux
  • The official way to code native apps in the Palm Pre is using SDL 1.2, which has a standard interface and Palm has released their modifications in compliance to the LGPL.
  • Did I say it's getting (some) commercial games?

When did Nokia say we'll get Maemo 6 on the N900? They are promising a day-to-day usable version of Meego to be used by developers, but I haven't seen mention of Maemo 6 (maybe I missed it).

Maemo 6 may be what the N950 is shipped with, though they have made it API compatible with Meego, and may actually call it Meego.

Do you actually know what i meant when i said HARDWARE wise?.

Take a look at both mobiles they are totally different board layout although they share some components.
