Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

Installed and running smooth.

Thanks, Pali.

However the CPU temperature don't show on both qcpufreq and conky. I am using (I think) the bq27x00 module. Same on you, guys?

Thanks in advance.

Saluti a tutti!!

Estel 2011-08-24 17:45

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

You're not using bq27x00 module, cause in last version it is not enabled on startup, unlike in kp47. Furthermore, now bq27x00 module can't live together with BMI, cause path allowing that was reverted in kp48. Check changelog.

Any help on installing this? I'm on v46 and I installed "Linux kernel for power users' from the hildon app manager. Still on v46...

How To run Joikuspot :

kernel-power v48 :

Code:

cp /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko.old
cp /lib/modules/2.6.28.10-power48/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/

-----------------------------------------

kernel-power v47 :

Code:

cp /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko.old
cp /lib/modules/2.6.28.10-power47/JoikuSpot_Bouncer.ko /home/opt/maemo/usr/share/applications/joikuspot/

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And then run joikuspot normally :)
without having to insert the module manually in each start of Joikuspot

many thx for this.

I love my N from day to day more :D

BTW Pali!

Got a Problem with my Dataplan since i have installed v48

My N900 goes sometimes in Offline Mode an shut downs the GSM connection.

So i have to press the Power Button, then press Offline-Modus.
After that i have to press Power Button again and press Online Modus.

When this is done i can make calls and start my Dataplan again.

Sometimes this comes when I start a fresh connection (after boot) or when I have already a connection open and let the N900 in my pocket.

Well, you installed KP48 *and* applied who-knows-what patches. You might get more lucky if you review those patches you installed, and see if one of them affects the clock settings.

The kernel by itself will not do anything. You may want to run "kernel-config show" as root and post the output here.

Hey pali, any chance you can promote kp47 to extras-testing for the rest of use who don't want to live on the bleeding edge?

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

Strangely on some N900 the new packages not flash the kernel.
  • I have installed new packages over older Kernel v48 and after reboot I have the older kernel in the flash mtd partition yet (simple to see because the older kernel was with u-boot attached).
  • So I have choosed "Nokia Kernel" on Icons Menu to remove all.
All power kernel's packages removed and the script tells that it has flashed Nokia Kernel.
But after reboot power kernel still present.
  • I have manually flashed the Nokia stock kernel and after reboot I have installed again power kernel v48 from repositories.
Again no power kernel at boot (stock kernel still present but all power kernel packages are installed, even the kernel package).
  • At end I have manually flashed the power kernel (with u-boot attached) and the story has ended.
Another italian user reports to me similar problems.
  • Installed power kernel v48 from repo but no kernel loaded
  • Reflashed N900 to stock PR1.3 firmware and then reinstalled power kernel v48. After reboot still stock kernel present

Can anyone report that is using it and works without problems?

Thanks.

helo
the patch is the speed patch an battery patchthat you may see allmost all the time in the active topics
Here is my kenel-config

home/user # kernel-config show
current kernel configuration:
current frequency: 500
supported frequencies: 125 250 500 550 600 700 750 805 850 900 950 1000 1100 1150
min. frequency: 125
max. frequency: 750
avoid frequencies: 125 550 805 850 900 950 1000 1100 1150
active frequencies: 0:27,90 250:27,180 500:32,360 600:38,430 700:46,430 750:49,430
SmartReflex VDD1=1, VDD2=1
governor ondemand: ignore nice load= 1, up threshold= 75, sampling rate= 150000, powersave bias= 0

it seems that the min freq 125 its also one avoided and now the current freq is 500 and not 750 like allways was showned in conky
how do I revert any avoided frequency?
Thanks

Second this request. The main reason i upgraded to v48 was compcache but that is still unstable it seems so i'd appreciate if v47 was available trough ham as well.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

Hi,

how much space does kernel-power-flasher need on rootfs (or possibly other partitions)?

I get
Quote:

Setting up kernel-power-flasher (1:2.6.28-10power48) ...
sh: write error: No space left on device
dpkg: error processing kernel-power-flasher (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
kernel-power-flasher
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
while having 19.3 MiB free space on rootfs, and another 600 on home. Thought that should be enough...?

hi,
I upgraded from v47 to v48 from fam, everything is allright,
except this bug: open xterm and stay as user, then open a file with leafpad which is owned by root, then edit the file and press ctrl-s to save it, this leads to a reboot under v48, it worked under v47.

No, lzo is compiled with kernel. And the problem with compcache is that it is not stable on ARM, once ramzswap becomes full odd things start to happen (kenel oops, BUG: scheduling while atomic, oom killed processes, segmentation faults, etc. ). Currently I am trying to make it stable, no success so far.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

@guilledoc,

Assuming that SmartReflex has no influence in this, the only difference w.r.t. my configuration is that I have ignore_nice_load=0 (default). You could maybe try changing that.

I would also be good if you could post the contents of /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/stats/time_in_state (so you can see how long your N900 has spent at each speed)

1. Reflash your phone, DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING ELSE
2. Test it.
3. Reinstall KP v48. DO NOT CHANGE KERNEL SETTINGS
4. Test it.
5. If there is any issue with battery life, report here.

Thanks

if i use TC & choose "auto-reboot after saving setting" the device shutdown not reboot...i suspected if not this v48 it might be Enhanced BusyBox Shell cause when i run the reboot command on x-term it also fails to reboot properly....

See Estel's post about accessing bq27200, post.
You will need i2cget tool and attached script (remove txt at the end). This is a stripdown of shadowjk's script

I have been using this with Queen Beecon Widget. Working OK.

well with v47 i had nitdroid installed on the emmc, it didnt mix very well caused a reboot loop, bricked my phone so had to reflash it :) . As for this version i dont know.

I confirm this problem - more precisely, You *can* save file edited as root, but reboot occur, when You try to "save as" - it happens all the time, exactly before moment, when prompt for location should pop-up.

I've also installed latest Busybox power, so I'm also not sure which one - kp48 or busybox - cause this oddity.

// Edit

It's possible, that people with R&D mode enabled, won't meet that problem (watchdogs disabled). So, please write about Your R&D mode status, while confirming/denying this issue. I got R&D mode off.

Also, when gaining root in xterm via "sudo gainroot" running leafpad ("leafpad", just to open blank), then choosing "save as", leafpad crashes with seagfault. I don't know if that is related though, haven't tested this exact method before.
