Scud battery customs trouble... :-(

Hi all,
today I received a letter from the customs, that my scud batteries are waiting for me to fetch them... The seller forgot to make the invoice available from the outside of the packaging and now the customs ordered me to drive 22km to get it (and pay the customs of course).
My question: has anybody experienced a similar situation with the scud batteries? If so, have you had any trouble because they are no original N900 batteries? They shouldn't be illegal, as they are clearly stated as compatible, but I'm unsure...
Thanks in advance.

Re: Scud battery customs trouble... :-(

I bought mine from Fire Union and it came with proper custom declarations on the outside of the box.

Only problem would be if they think it's counterfeit, but clearly it is not one of the fake Nokia batteries, it's a Scud brand. Maybe Nokia patented BL-5J design but I'm not sure customs guys can even tell that from the box, Scud comes in a closed and sealed box and the writing is almost all in Chinese :)

Re: Scud battery customs trouble... :-(

The problem is: they ordered me to bring the invoice with me (I have none, can't find the invoice mail), so I have to print out the Aliexpress order details, where there is stated: "Lithium-ion battery Nokia BL-5J for 5230 5800XM 5233 N900/1420mAh". If they are evil enough, they'll claim that I knowingly ordered a fake...
I'm thinking about denying the receipt now (thus returning it to the seller), but I don't know which further payments will have to be made then.

Re: Scud battery customs trouble... :-(

I don't think I ever had an invoice inside the box on any order from China, just the green tag with value and contents listed on the outside. A lot of sellers write a fake amount on the form, mark it as a gift, etc, to keep duty fees low for the customers.

Maybe the customs simply wants to compare with your invoice to see how much you should really pay to receive this package.

I will add that I'm in the US and we don't have duty or customs fees for receiving mail, and in 100+ packages received from other countries, I've never had one held or opened by customs, so I'm not an expert in the German mail and customs system... :)

btw, the customs sent me a scan of the envelope, the package isn't declared in any way :-(

Re: Scud battery customs trouble... :-(

This is "standard" practice in many country's

I have been through the same some times, so my advice to you is, show them the receipt/print of order details, normally this can be done over email, it is weird you have to go to the customs place, of course i also have to go to the local post office (about 5Km) to get my package if customs have had their hands on it, to pay duty fees.

Take it from me, don't freak out to much, they just want the real value so they can get some money out of you.
I really doubt they are talking of counterfeit items, because to my knowledge these battery´s are original SCUD, and scud is pretty big, chinas answer to varta i guess

Again take it easy, go there, get it over with.
Normal value in EU for packages to "avoid" customs is about 10euro.

Re: Scud battery customs trouble... :-(

Can remember first time i got a customs notice, it was back before i knew how awesome linux was, so i ordered on of those fake crappy iphone china models, and customs was threatening to destroy it, but since i only ordered 1 and not 5+ they sent it through, but still had to pay all the duties.

But i know how you feel if this is the first dealing with customs, but again it is no big thing.

Good luck! Even with this trouble, the Scud batteries are awesome and it is worth the extra work to get them. :)

Geekgirl74.. let us know how it goes in the end. I was also thinking about ordering one or two batteries :) Which place 40km from Munich is where you have to go?

(in case you get them without problems and you have one to spare, I could also buy it off you :)

still too far without car...
I'll think about your offer, if I ever receive them...

If it was some other day I could even drive you there (sounds sorta weird, but I see no problem with it :). Maybe tuesday if you still didn't get them..

Thanks, but I'm already trying to get them via Deutsche Post. I've called the customs and asked, if I could send the docs via mail and the woman there said yes. So now I'm hoping that they accept my website printouts (PDF), cause I've never received any confirmation or even invoice... if everything goes fine, they'll send me the package and I can pay the customs at my home door. Wish me luck :)

This is what i have done a few times, and i could not imagine that it could not be done in Germany....
If everything is in order they will send you your package and how to pay.
In my experience her in Denmark they are not always demanding a full detailed order description, i have been able to just send a number to them over mail.
The worst thing i have tried was them taking a sku number and assuming this was the price, this was from DX and they thought that the sku 4000 something, was the price in some Chinese currency, so they thought that the product cost around 3000-4000$!!!! and it was only about 150$, but after calling them idiots and sending them the screen grap from DX then they refunded me the difference (yes i can get mad and rude sometimes...)

And i would be interested to hear how much they want from you in customs fee + tax etc...

Re: Scud battery customs trouble... :-(

In .fi customs randomly samples international inbound mails. They say they ignore the green value declaration because everyone lies anyway.

In theory you need to pay import duty + VAT, however if they're less than 10E you pay nothing.

Just because customs sampled your letter doesn't mean they think there was anything wrong or illegal about it.

any news here?, did you get the battery's yet?

nope, I'm still waiting...

Re: Scud battery customs trouble... :-(

Update: I've still not received my batteries, but the seller was fair enough to extend the aliexpress "confirm order receipt" deadline until 19th May, which is +20 days from the initial deadline... I think until then I'll at least finally know, what really happened to my batteries. I'll start nagging the customs a little bit tomorrow (if I find the time to make a call from the office)... :D

2nd update: I've called the customs today. They brought it to some main customs office or so in a city near Leipzig . I was told that I will receive my package some day, but I wonder how much I'll have to pay, cause the value is only EUR 23.14 and they take 50 cent for each storage day... nice business model
