Good to see this thread. My personal hope for salvation from the high-price hell the major manufacturers are determined to send us to is that one or a group of unknowns, maybe from China, will lead the way to sane low prices.

Low prices have a few advantages: You can afford to try out several devices, and you can afford to guess wrong.

Also the SmartQ devices still make a good solution and now have a g-sensor and Android 2.1. Also the processor speed was increased to 720mhz and is over-clockable to 800mhz. Also what really sells this device is the ability to run Ubuntu and multi-boot with operating systems, quite rare to find on a non-hacked mobile device.

As for a low-end but great phone, look for the CLIQ/DEXT.
'Twas my first Android device and it was craptaculor. Motoblur, Cupcake, 480p video, blurry 5MP shots, no led flash, no front facing camera. Then the Froyo-Roms got out (there was never too much community interest in these phones) and I accidentally soft-bricked it. Which is why I bought an N900 off ebay (more reliable).

I found myself using the N900 for everything, and the DEXT just for Android apps. And before I could give it to my lil bro, it drowned :(

I now have the N900 as a hobby-device, and the SGS i9000 as my main powerhouse. But I'm looking to buy another DEXT, I narrowly missed one on ebay auction for $85.

Why?
It's got a really really good qwerty, the slide mechanism is perfect, the materials used, and in-general it feels great. And now theres plenty of roms for it (CM7 anyone?), overclocking to 750MHz, and is fast responding. It plays pretty much all Android Apps (exc. HD versions) and plays all emulators fullspeed (except dosbox,psx,n64,nds,dreamcast).

I'm looking to snatch one for my lil bro, its better than the $10 Nokia he has and probably more entertaining than his gameless-DSi.

There are so many way the manufacturer cheats, some missing g sensor, some missing gps. The more people study it, the more we can pick our best toy. Anybody try these yet"

$600 - iPad 2 (double the capability of the original)
$600 - New Galaxy Tab (8.9" / 10.1")

If you want an original, reasonably priced Android phone you might do worse than the iNQ Cloud Touch, particularly if you're a heavy user of Facebook and/or Spotify.

I have always been a fan UMPC's well I found some reasonably priced ones that have 5inch displays. Yah these things aren't Viliv quality but they are good devices none the less.
