UKMP 1.4 and UKTUBE 0.6 out

I just released UKTUBE 0.6 and UKMP 1.4.

Major things in UKTUBE are support for delete and support for streaming of video files from youtube and dailymotion. It will buffer 1 meg and then start playback. Really really cool.

UKMP add support for video playback and fixes some killer bugs (such as app not starting for some people).

Anyway, read more and check videos of both apps that show you the new functions. Install link is also on the page.

http://konttoristhoughts.blogspot.co...t-in-beta.html

Anyway, I hope you guys could have a test of uktube 0.6 today if you are using uktube. I'm going away for a while tomorrow, so I can really do bugfixes well only on today.

Re: UKMP 1.4 and UKTUBE 0.6 out

No probs. Hopefully this gives people something to play around while waiting for the inevitable firmware release. I must say that I'm really pleased that the streaming works. It makes the world of difference to be able to play just about any youtube clip instantaneously, even the longer ones. And e.g. dailymotion is full of hour long videos. Just remember to keep enough space on your mmc!

Its not working for me ... starts scanning the cards, which its doing very slowly, and then just sits there with a blank screen. I have to kill -9 processid to kill it.

Awesome news...thanks for such great apps, konttori!

I only wish more developers (and by developers, I mean Nokia) communicated as often and as clearly as you have.

Have a great vacation!

Do you have lots of files on your mmc cards? Maemo mapper perhaps?

Nope.

I've been trying verious combinations, and I can get it to hang every time if I am connected to a wireless network. If not, it works, and brilliantly, by the way.

This is working great for me so far kontori. Keep up the great work and have fun while your gone. I'm sure you need the down time.

The ability to stream is definitely killer! Thanks for this update, far more close to the browser experience

Is this for ukmp or uktube?

Also, can you try opening it from command line (MediaCenter for ukmp and uktube for uktube) and see what kind of error you get when it jams.

w14 2007-07-05 14:07

Re: UKMP 1.4 and UKTUBE 0.6 out

For ukmp, sorry.

More info ... it definitely ogg related. The album cover that it hangs on is always one with ogg encoded music.

Also, if I am not network connected, and happily listening to mp3s, alls well. If I listen to an ogg encoded album, it hangs in the same way after a few songs ... black screen, unresponsive to keys, has to be killed from the command line.

I'll run it from the command line and see if there are any useful messages.

Re: UKMP 1.4 and UKTUBE 0.6 out

Have you installed ogg support on the device? Do other ogg files work?

Re: UKMP 1.4 and UKTUBE 0.6 out

Firstly, great work! I love that UKMP is turning in to a fully fledged media player, and I am really impressed with the YouTube functionality.

I've played a .flv from the video part of the media player no problem, but selecting a feature length xvid AVI which plays in mplayer just caused the system to freeze and I had to take the battery out. I haven't had a chance to investigate further but if I can be of help in the testing /debugging I'd be happy to help!

Re: UKMP 1.4 and UKTUBE 0.6 out

Trying the new uktube and the very first video blanked the screen (as usual before playing a video) and then rebooted the tablet.

Has anyone had trouble getting UKTUBE to boot? It works on my N800, but won't go on my 770. Any input would be appreciated.

could be that you don't have mplayer / python installed. I have 770 it os 2006 and it works just fine. Hacker edition may have some problems.

All right. Here is an updated version:
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/downloa...be0.6beta2.deb

Please try it out. It should solve problems playing video files (.avi)

Hey I love the new concept but is there anyway that you can intigrate video playback i the player? Because i strong dislike mplayer with its crashes and lag not to mention messing my screen up everytime i play a video... Back to my original ? is that possible and when is picture support coming?
Thanks

Re: UKMP 1.4 and UKTUBE 0.6 out

Konttori, after your vacation and the release of the new IT firmware would it be possible to make future versions of UKMP/UKTUBE installable and updatable via the application manager? Also it would be great to have UKTUBE as a desktop applet. Thanks again for all your hard work.

Thanks for the response. I have both python and mplayer installed. UKMP works fine, just can't get UKTube going. Any other thoughts?

I second that. Having it in a repository to get updates would be much improved.

coheed22:
I can't integrate playback to the application itself, as flash video is not supported by the nokia codecs. And mplayer has all the codecs one needs. So, it's a compromise that had to be made. You say that it messes up your screen every time you play video? Really? 770 or n800? Does this happen to other people?

uktube can only be desktop applet when Nokia releases next firmware.
After that, I'll consider it. Have to test and see if it makes sense, works and all, but if it does, I'll release it pretty soon.
I'll also try to get it application manager manageable soon.

I just tested on my it 2006 770 as well. Seems to work just fine.

Try opening xterm.
Write uktube
press enter
See what happens.

If there is an error, please let me know.

Now that you mention it, I do believe it happens to me once in a while. After exiting the app, I sometimes end up with what looks like a zoomed-in "desktop". The menu bar and quick-launch area are larger than normal. A quick screen lock and unlock fixes it. It happens rarely for me.

konttori 2007-07-05 21:35

Re: UKMP 1.4 and UKTUBE 0.6 out

Yeah, I have gotten it a two times as well, but I consider that 'acceptable'. But in case that happens like every other time or something like that, then it becomes seriously uncool. Thanks for the screen lock/unlock tip! I have rebooted on those two occasions.

konttori.

Error message is as follows:

File "/usr/bin/uktube", line 31, in ?
import netrc
ImportError: No module named netrc
~ $

Thanks for the consideration and prompt attention. All developers should take this kind of interest in their apps and their successful implementation.

It seems that netrc is not included in Maemo's python2.4. I got this same error before I installed python2.5-runtime.

Tragos.

Good call. I didn't realize that I hadn't upgraded Python from 2.4 to 2.5. Works fine now. Thanks.

Re: UKMP 1.4 and UKTUBE 0.6 out

I don't know if this is just a maemo 3.1 issue (it may be fixed after I upgrade to 3.2) or if its actually a UKMP issue (since the only files on the SD card shown here are in the "covers" directory created by UKMP).

Ideas?

This is a 2GB card, btw!

Thanks,

Yes thats what i meant the zooming in part when i said it messes up my screen. Heres how ofter. Mplayer- Pretty much every time ( 8 out of 10 times) UKTUBE- After the clip plays pretty much everytime. Aside from that with the new update for the n800 the app uktube like it always did but after i paste a link the app closes. Yes i have python 2.5, mplayer. Ive tried everything uninstalling then reinstalling, rebooting several times , and taking the mmc out and back in nothing seems to work. Help please someone

Thanks

Is UKTube crashing for anyone else? I have both Python and Mplayer installed and uptodate, along with the latest UKTube. It'll start, but when I paste the link and then click any of the three buttons at the bottom, it just shuts down.

Update: This appears to have been fixed with the firmware update.

for me this shutting down happens with some youtube files, not all files, so it seems to be youtube oriented problem. I save same files by bookmarklet way (info can be found in forum) successfully though

Hi Uhro, got one "problem" yesterday: I started streaming a 15MB file but found that it was not what I was searching for. Returned to uktube by pressing the escape key, it was still downloading the remaining part of the file (reasonable)

Is there any chance to stop it or do I have to exit uktube (like I did) and restart?

thanks in advance!

I believe Uhro is on vacation, so I'll point out that he comments on this issue in one of the demo videos in the Uktube 0.6 release announcement. Specifically, Uhro stated that you cannot stop the download once begun and it would be taken care of (hopefully) in a future release.

You'll have to exit for now.
