I think MAG wants to have this baby "feature complete" first. We should wait until he clarifies what he wants and needs...
E.g. which of the suggestions so far he likes best, if he wants to keep it Maemo-style or more Harmattan-like...

thanks for the reply my internet connection is working well, but still no solution for this issue, can MAG SOLVE IT?

Check your date/time, QWebKit doesn't handle errors internally and I never implemented it.

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Not sure if this is the correct place for development suggestions however....

It would be cool if we could have a widget/status bar option to disable/enable sociality from running in the background. At present if I want it to run in background I have to launch the app, tick the setting and close the app and then do the reverse if I want to disable (say I want to disable overnight as found it tends to use up memory and don't want to be pestered by notifications).

Be good if we could just do this from status bar, just like online/offline option.

MohammadAG 2011-07-21 09:56

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Actually, just tick the option in Settings, when you want it not to run in the background, use menu -> Quit, this overrides the setting and quits the app, should've mentioned that before eh? :p

Bravo sir, you rock my world. Status bar plugin would be cool though. Not essential.

Great!!! If Maemo-nity is a religion, MAG, you are my god!...

Love the app run in background feature, now I can just let it run on my GPRS and always be live!

Will update it tonight...

A quick question: Hows the CPU like when it is running in background?? No battery drain??

MohammadAG 2011-07-21 10:50

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

For things like notifications, it's way too light, for the news feed, it might push CPU to 70% for 5 secs on each update.

I massively improved the next version, right now, I'm deleting all items in the view and recreating them, which takes CPU time, the next version will update the current items and create new ones at the top.

FYI, the news feed isn't refreshed unless the news feed window is opened once, to "delete" the window from memory and disable updates (till it's opened again), use CTRL+Q in the news feed window.

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Maybe you could reduce the amount of traffic used ! I loaded Sociality yesterday using Mobile Internet and I was surprised it used almost 2 Mb without even loading up the News Feed !

Any word on improving the chat functionality? Coz for me it just takes too long to see whos online, which kind of removes the use of it :(

People go offline before it says they were ever online.

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

why use the chat function when you can use maemo built in messenger for facebook chat.

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Great app :). It has all the functionality I need, and is much easier to use than the Facebook website on an N900.

Just one thing is a bit annoying: every time I tap the sociality icon on my desktop, it opens the app and logs me out. Afterwards I have to fill in my username and password. It does not remember them.

Does everybody have this problem, and is there a way to avoid having to log in every time?

Am using v0.3-1 (most recent firmware too) and can't accept friend requests. I get the alert that there's one pending, go to Friends > Requests, click on the requester's name, takes me to Facebook (I log in if not already) and click Confirm. I then get 'something has gone wrong.' If I then check on facebook site and request still pending.

Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Launch helper exited with unknown return code

:( :(

I get this when i type sociality on terminal. Starting from app menu, the GUI appears and disappears in fraction of a second. Have broken something with maemo again? Tired of reflashing :P prefer much easier solution.

MohammadAG 2011-08-04 13:22

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Sociality uses DBus to start, you can try /opt/usr/bin/sociality for a manual startup, see what it says then.

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

/opt/usr/bin/sociality: error loading shared libraries libQtLocation.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Ok. Here I say the history. I was having the best maemo setup ever on my N900 till this noon. One wrong step during the mount of bt5 broke my mobile and made it restart.

I made it qchroot /home/user/MyDocs/bt5/bt5.img /mnt/ instead of qchroot /home/user/MyDocs/bt5/bt5.img /mnt/bt5/.

Though it failed to mount in the middle with a failure error message, The terminal got stuck and in few seconds, n900 restarted. I checked the /mnt directory, thank god, the mount had been unmounted too, i thought it was safely done. But no. Now this doesn't let me use my applications :(

Is there any relevance?

Since CSSU Qt update Facebook seems to recognize n900 as iphone or ipad (seriously) and sends invalid response on login request. MohammadAG promised to contact facebook support team with the problem when he has time. If facebook team rejects to include Qt 4.7.4 user agent then a fix will be included in next the CSSU update. Sorry for the inconvenience, but this is out of the CSSU team control.

@all - do not logout from socilality and kasvopus until the problem is solved

No, the authentication is done by obtaining an access token from Facebook. There is no way to obtain this token without the application communicating with the Facebook API.

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Version 0.3-2 pushed to -devel, should be there in 20 minutes.

This has no new features, but fixes the login issue by using the desktop site for login.

Login works ok with 0.3-2 (and Qt4.7.4)
