Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

You MAG are just one lean mean coding machine :)

IMO Notifications button should not be displayed unless there is new notifications. Appropriate place for it when there is no new notifications would be upper menu. Same logic with new messages button.

Login should be handled through Maemo GUI to give user better feedback. I have to login every time I start app, maybe my app-rights on Facebook side are too strict?

Are items cached? Every-time I start app it feels like that itīs refreshing/fetching everything from Facebook.

Some status updates have (unlike) button even thought I have never ever clicked like anywhere.

Why jabber chat should be integrated to this app?

Icons have duplicate description text under them. Black and gray.

No version information on about page.

I do not see photos. I have to check rights for this app from facebook.

Looks nice but I still prefer https://touch.facebook.com with Opera-mobile ;)

Try the fix on page 5; Post No46 of this thread.
Worked for me.

And if anyone is looking to customize their Sociality with icons:

You don't have a Facebook shortcut in apps menu? It's there for me.

It is NOT a shortcut called Sociality.

This is probably a fault in the Facebook api, but Sociality's timestamps do not adhere the daylight savings madness. It's off by -2 hours.

Is that regarding the notifications not marking as read?

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

i have hidden some app from my news feed. i still see the updates coming from that person using the app. i don't see the same thing when i browse www.facebook.com

is there some filtering that's not working? or is this a bug in fb's graph API?

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Hi there,

I have just installed and tested this APp, great app something to replace Effig status updater but maybe for the next release what is missing is the offline reading of Facebook status similar to the n900 Facebook Desktop Widget.. which reads out the status and displays on the widget.

what do you thing?

Anyway I will keep this app and deinstall other fb clients:-)

I mainly started this project three days ago cause all other facebook clients are lacking some features in one way or another, and it was a good way to start looking web APIs.

I plan to include all features (that I can include, I can't send messages using the API for some reason, so while the UI is coded, facebook doesn't allow it).

If something doesn't work (Notes and places for example), then it's not implemented.

Also, I'd appreciate some help with the icons before someone sues me :)

Depending on what the final name will be (I went with Sociality right now since it has the highest votes), the via Nokia N900 will probably change, though I am planning to have something like Via App Name for Nokia N900.

Anyway, a quick screenshot:
http://i55.tinypic.com/2ii7wav.jpg

So yeah, this is a quick release (again, I only started working on this 3 days ago).

(Just some quick tips, you can create a new album in Photos -> tap title bar, I noticed this was being requested a lot around the forums, you can also create events and embed videos in status updates).

You can find the name poll here http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/?p=42

App name is Sociality (apt-get install socaility or get it through HAM/fapman)

thanks for this great app!
would it be possible to add a button(+) next to "like" letting expand and see who likes what? :)
and also to check posts older than today?
thanks MAG!

0.1-5 has same issue with not marking notifications as read after selecting them.

guy, is the icon was introduced in the new version? I still can't see it there. I run sociality from the terminal

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

in 0.1-5 the timestamps are correct in newsfeed, but they are still UTC in places. I hope this can be corrected in some later version of this app.
thanks for a great app.

@wshamroukh: It has been there for the latest versions. Look for an icon with the name "facebook", as said earlier in this thread. The last time it was said is post #212, on the very page you posted on. ;-)

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

I never said I fixed notifications not getting read, I don't know how to do it atm.

As for adding a place, I could link to a page but since I don't save cookies and such, you'll have to login everytime you want to add a place.

There is an icon in the latest version, it uses the name "Facebook" and uses the facebook icon from chat accounts.

Thanks for noticing times in places, I'll fix it in a bit.

I realized right after i posted my post.. there is no way to delete the post. If there was, i would have deleted my post though :)

however, i thought the Facebook Icon is the icon for the default App. I was always looking for sociality :)

MohammadAG 2011-05-11 19:59

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

There is no default app :P

You can delete posts on tmo through edit -> delete post at the top

Will there be LED notification of new posts?

Nice App, keep up with your good work!
There should be a confirmation dialog for deleting posts, just accidently hit the cross of one of my facebook posts and it was directly deleted.

MAG, this is a great app, has some great potential and amazing you got so much functionality into it in such a short amount of time. Top man.

Just got couple of things I wanted to ask:

I get messages in my News Feed timeline from friends app/games, stuff like their FarmVille prizes etc - is there any way to filter these annoying things out via the app (on a new setting maybe)?

Also noticed that the News Feed you can get so many entries (not sure if entry count or date/time limited) - is there a way of retrieving more of the older entries, maybe a "More" button at the end of the page, to retrieve another X entries at a time?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Do this in facebook itself. On a browser, check your newsfeed. Where you get i.e. a Farmville post, click "x" topright to remove it, and a little menu will appear. Click "Hide all by Farmville" and you will never see any notifications from that app again. Do this for each app until your newsfeed is clear on whichever device you choose to read it on. Sorted!

Ah... didnt know that. Wish FB could make these things easier to do, more straight forward. Thanks for the info, will try it now.

thanks for everything you do for our beloved device bro

Videos will play in the app itself instead of microB or qmltube (Nothing personal, I just don't want to depend on other apps since this builds for Windows/Linux/Mac/Symbian etc...)

Saving images, umm, sure, I'll try and figure it out and add it in.

I'll add a confirmation dialog for deleting posts, I've found it annoying too.

hi Mohammad. I love the app but there is one thing I wish would change. I dont think the logo which shows the N900 phone works. I think it would be better if it is just the standart logo used by mobile web, iphone and android. just a thought. thank you so much for this app Mohammad. it always makes my day.

I'm with noelian83, the icon needs to be simple.

personally i think the icon is ok if it was to be changed i'd go for the middle n900 icon in K9999 post :)

I updated Sociality yesterday and I'm still missing an launch icon. Tried the user/bin/sociality command without any success. Is there another way to launch this app?

I'm pretty sure the icon's there:

As for the icon, I agree it needs to be changed, can someone edit the middle icon posted above to make the white parts on the sides transparent?

Hey Mohammad. Your app is great! I love the updates I've been getting. The icon is fine with me, but if u do plan on changing it I like the first one from K9999's post.

Any news on the ability to send messages being enabled?
