Hi MAG, i like the the UI suggestions made by zeikii, I think it should be given some thought. Do you plan to integrate a widget into this app, or led/sound notification?

+1 for me, it looks clean/uncluttered, keep up the good work zeikii.

thanks Travla, i think using a gui similar to that off the android app would work perectly, but i have only seen abit here and there of it.

ill try work on a cleaner version when i get the time.

Thanks for the UI mockups, aren't the like/comment buttons way too small though?

The next update should have lots of fixes, links should show properly (smaller text, clickable title, with pictures and all), as well as chat with the qxmpp library (this may require a second app login and your password will be stored (should be encrypted))

I'm really looking forward to the next update MAG, enjoying Sociality very much at the moment.

WRT chat, will it be opt-in or will the update mandate that you set it up? I always stay offline when on facebook, and I thought that facebook chat was already able to be set up in conversations. Anyway, my main concern would be that I can continue to appear offline for chat while using Sociality.

Still have to repeat myself.

Are we sure that "News feed" is really "News feed" as it is mentioned two times! Same thing with all other icons.

Just some minor edits to Zeikiis mockups.
A little more "FB-like"...
Sorry for the bad quality, was just a quick shot ;)

Edit:
While I look at it I realize IŽd prefer white background with black font. More contrast, easier for reading...

MohammadAG 2011-05-20 21:59

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Chat will stay offline till you click the icon, then it'll go online.

No you don't have to repeat yourself, that lies under my fixes category:

MAG, yeah they probably are abit too small. i used a similar size button to the touch.facebook site.

how much larger do you think they should be? about double the thickness?

Hi MAG, when your borning an update of your super facebook app ???
You are MAGIC programmer :)Good work !!!

GorillaCat 2011-05-21 01:31

Keep it going!

Looks great for something done in three days. To me it just needs a little tweeking, like the notifications should countdown the way it should, notification button would look better as a bar, the menu buttons should be a pinch smaller (10-15%), the over all look of it should kind of resemble the FB site in stead of using the phone's theme colors. Maybe a vibe function for the notificatoins? (That would be cool). Keep up the awesomeness!

I like better the MAG design of sociality. I hope there will be an option to choose your favourite layout cuz i want the black background with my own color details.

MohammadAG 2011-05-21 11:08

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

I'm wondering how to implementing marking notifications as read, should all notifications be marked as read (ala facebook.com, iOS, android etc) when the dialog is opened, or should each one be marked as read when the user clicks it?

Personally, I prefer the former.

travla 2011-05-21 11:17

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Would it be possible to have a mixture of both? What I'm thinking could be useful is make the notifications 0 once the user clicks on the notification bar, bit show indiidual notifications that haven't been clicked on appear as unread (but obviously they don't count as unread).

This would make it simple to see which post/response to click, IMO.

At the end of the day, I'll be happy with whatever you decide.

MohammadAG 2011-05-21 11:39

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

So you mean I should mark them all as read on facebook.com, and the UI would show them as blue, but the counter would show 0 (and they'd actually be read)?

travla 2011-05-21 11:43

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Spot on, and as the user reads the "unclicked notifications" they revert to the same colour as the cliced ones. If this is not so easy to implement, and I had to pick, I'd rather all notifications being cleared in one go as per facebook.com.

Hey MAG any chance at all that it would be possible to watch video links inside the app? Would that be possible or not or even let them open up say in media player instead of it directing us to the site via microb be awsome if the vids load up in cutetube or kmplayer

Cheers mate

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Great app, once again MAG.

I note a lot of chatter about UI design etc ; but I think this the flow is fine and it keeps in line with the rest of the N900 application. A similar layout and design to the Fapman app list is ideal (I recall it was yourself MAG who offered a patch to space out the app listing).

A very, very simple change to implement that would go a long way to improving the rendering for some folk is to use Volume +/- to alter the font scale ; one of the Twitter apps had this functionality (I forget - I haven't used Twitter in ages!) and it was superb. Made a huge difference to readabilty depending on your environment (outside, dark room, morning and wide-awake, night-time and struggling to keep your eyes open - you get my point!).

Personally, I like *both* Sociality and Kasvopus.

Can you check the output of the command "dmesg" in an x terminal

EDIT: after logging in sorry forgot to add this

Ditto. :( You can always use Phonon, which I found to work OK. I have found that QMediaPlayer (via the QML video component) works on Symbian, but not with Maemo. I think the solution may be to set a cookie jar for the QNetworkAccessManager, but I haven't got round to trying it yet. I'm not sure how you would get the QMediaPlayer instance to use the cookie jar when making the HTTP request. I think it will be possible using QDeclarativeNetworkAccessManagerFactory, but that doesn't apply in your case.

BTW, if you are using the code I posted to get the YouTube url, you might want to take a look at the updated code, as I have since updated it to enable playback of videos that normally require age verification. :)

I'm trying to stay far from Phonon, not sure why though :p

I did some digging around:
QMediaPlayer::setMedia( const QMediaContent & media, QIODevice * stream = 0 )

One of QMediaContent's constructors is:
QMediaContent ( const QNetworkRequest & request )

http://doc.qt.nokia.com/latest/qnetw...html#setHeader

QNetworkRequest::CookieHeader 4 corresponds to the HTTP Cookie header and contains a QList<QNetworkCookie> representing the cookies to be sent back to the server

So I guess it can be done, now to see how I could get that cookie...

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Really good job Mohammad! I really like what you are doing here. One thing I would love to see implemented is push-notifications. Meaning, when you get a message/notification the notifier in the N900 (like when you get a e-mail or MMS through fMMS) pops up and tells you that. Do you think that it is possible?

Thanks a lot dude!!

Code:

dbus-send --type=method_call --dest=org.freedesktop.Notifications /org/freedesktop/Notifications org.freedesktop.Notifications.SystemNoteDialog string:"QUESTION?" uint32:0 string:"OK"
I found a line of code to create a notification if that can help you with the push notifications.

MohammadAG 2011-05-22 00:15

Re: [Annnounce] Sociality | Facebook client in Qt

Push notifications won't be implemented anytime soon (I'll be honest, I have no idea how to implement them), but with auto-refresh, the UI will notify you about new items (with an auto refresh rate of 5 minutes, that's enough methinks :p)

http://i56.tinypic.com/m8fqfa.jpg

Vibration and LED are also supported (and configurable)

Edit: oh and I'm stuck on getting the cookie again :/

Perhaps you can alternate the backgroundcolor (black + darkgrey) of each post, this would make it much more readable with the current style.

Awesome work. After reinstalling several times it still asks email and passwd every single login. So how to create that .config file?
