Re: Will 64GB microSD fit in N900?

An update:
Last weekend while doing some intensive file reorganization on my N900's SanDisk 64 GB microSDXC card via wifi & SSH, something happened, a couple of files got corrupted, & the whole card became read-only.

Looking around on the internet I saw that others with microSDXC cards had event similar to occur, some fixed by reformatting, some by using the SD card adapter in unlocked mode then reformatting, using different formatting tools like EaseUS, SDformatter, the windows format tool, etc. Many did not get the problem fixed, nor did I.

I contacted SanDisk, & they have been very good about the problem & are offering to replace the card. In the email exchange, SanDisk have mentioned:
Quote:

Please allow us to inform you that your Nokia N900 does not officially support microSDXC type of cards. We have also tested the specific device and we recommend our microSDHC Ultra 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB.
The microSDXC Ultra 64GB may have worked in your phone, but we cannot guarantee that the new card will work without any issues.

Please allow us to inform you that for your convenience, SanDisk has launched an online Product Compatibility Tool; this application lists some of our cards recommended for your device and also suggests many compatible cards for a wide range of devices; this way you can make sure, that you purchase the right card for your device.

Having said the above we will strongly suggest you to replace your microSDXC Ultra 64GB with two microSDHC Ultra 32GB which are recommended and more suitable for your phone.
I am going for the replacement 64 GB microSDXC since it worked well for 6 months & because I suspect the damage occurred as a result of the huge scale wifi operation.

SanDisks compatibility chart for the N900 lists the 32 GB MicroSDHC as the largest recommended for the N900. I don't know what criteria was used, but I also notice that all their recommended cards for the N900 are MicroSDHC. I believe if I again wreck the replacement 64 GB microSDXC in the N900, I will buy a 64GB microSDHC & try that.

Presently, my old 32 GB microSDHC is back in the N900, & is nearly full!

Again, SanDisk have been very good in the process of warranty claim.

The N900 is compatible with (micro)SDHC, which has a limit of 32GB. That's why they recommend 32GB, because there are no SDHC cards with 64GB.

Exactly.
This is how it is worded here.

Re: Will 64GB microSD fit in N900?

especially if logged in with ssh (or on the N900 itself, in a X terminal otherwise) you may want to issue a
Code:

sync
every now and then
forces to write all the data physically
there are no caches on µSD devices, but you never know where the OS may choose to keep data "on a temporary basis"
(been using a 64GB UHS-1 SanDISK since end of last a year on the N900 w/out problem)
EDIT: corrected duration

Thank you. I'd seen some 64 GB SDHC cards listed at NewEgg, but apparently an error was made in the listing. Assuming the photos are of the actual product, the writing shows that they're actually SDXC.

The point I'm getting is that the SDHC spec only goes to 32 GB?

In the meantime, the communication with SanDisk is resolved, reasonable, & I think it could not have gone better.

We can proceed in providing a microSDXC Ultra 64GB card as a replacement, however please not, that since the card is not supported by the specific phone, if the card has issues again we won’t be able to replace it again for you since you will be using it to a non-compatible device.

We remain at your service should you require additional information.

X2, just got this card and it flies. Especially noticeable with easy debian and swap on sd.
I wouldn't recommend the sandisk 64gb cards at this point, the samsung is so much faster.

I bought a SanDisk 32GB class 4. It was constantly going into read only mode due to errors and also the phone was rebooting because I had swap on it too. I think it couldn't keep up with the high demand of IO.
I then bought an Adata Ultra 32GB Class 10/ UHS-1 and it works great. Super fast and reliable:

Nice comparison of many cards here:

Has anyone tried putting 128GB card (either microSD either SD with contacts soldered to a dummy microSD) inside N900?

If SDXC cards like the 64GB work then I see no reason why it will not work.

Re: Will 64GB microSD fit in N900?

128GB uSDXC works like a charm... just format it when you put it in, the N900 throws a few errors up but once formatted its AOK.

got mine for $100.
