Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
Hello my beloved fellowers,
The nokia was released in November 11, 2009 and I was on of the first that got it at this. After the release of Android Phones and the iPhone 4, the n900's appearance was already damaged alot could't stand the pace with other phones, but it was still alright. Now the warship Apple want's to release the iPhone 5 which is going to have alot of new features like the previous phones, the changes are like a iPhone 3 to a iPhone 3gs, its immense and unbelievable. Steve Jobs is doing an amazing job by the way. But that is not all, the hallower google in corporation with Samsung threw a new AGP-Phone into the market, the Samsung Galaxy S 2 which has a 1.2 GHZ Dual Processor and even has the power to emulate Windows XP or play high-graphic-quality games. Also the marketplace is by FAR better then Maemo's marketplace, iPhone Marketplace: 2.000.000 Million Apps Android Marketplace: 1.000.000 MIllion Applications Maemo Marketplace 1.000 (REALLY?? THATS ALL?? YES!!) Just look at the iPhone and Anroid Forums, only nice persons that will take you srsly :). soo.... It was nice while it lasted but there are alot of better phones now that can do way more then N900. RIP N900, RIP Maemo, RIP Debian, RIP NOKIA!! umadbro? |
Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.

*Shrug* Enjoy your whatever-you-move-onto, and I hope it makes you happy.
My N900 sure isn't resting in peace yet, by any means. I'm about to buy myself a USB-to-Ethernet plug adapter so that I can get internet over ethernet directly; yet another thing I don't believe any other phone does yet. |
Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
OP: well-thought and eloquently put. not only did you express your thoughts clearly, but you also proved your point with hard facts. your kind of contributor will be sorely missed on TMO.

I agree that the current options out do excel in terms of hardware in comparison to the N900. The operating system may not be for the faint of heart but it is the only one for me. Maybe not for you... |
Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
Normally I don't get involved in these threads but I'll make an exception this time.

Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
The problem with the apps is the same as with the TV. Tons of stations, but you only use a couple of them. So why bother about 2e5 apps you don't use anyway and just be happy with all the 1e3 extremely useful apps Maemo offers, most of them you ll never find on your ridiculous Android or iPhone (aircrack pwnes).
|
Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
There's no way App Store could have 2 millions of millions (2*10^12) apps. The same applies to Android Market having 10^12 apps. Heck, they don't even have 1 million and you're talking about 1 million times more (or 2).
|
Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
omg 2 million apps. do you have them all on your iphone?? zomg!
cool story bro |

also, how can you base success on number of apps available in marketplace!? those numbers are just frill.. |
Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
half million fart apps, another half million stupid games, another half million apps which just displays information that you can get from google by searching
|
Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
It is not.
|
Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
Holy cow! 100000 Farting apps, each a different tone! That is like 100000 different farts I can have with me all the time in my pocket! That is so awesome, that is why smart phones were created in the first place! Fart phones! Yay! Now also in dual core: 2 farts the same time! Oh noes, they do not do multitask. So it is one fart at a time. Oh well.

Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
Tried android and apple, lot of apps but over 90% crap, used in excess of 3 hours to find a good video player on android, and can say that i can do much more with kmplayer then any video app in android....
In other words, you missed the point by the length from earth to the moon, and the same goes for most app junkies. Like i said before, number of apps does not a good OS make :D and how needs apps when you are intelligent enough to use a terminal. final quote: you suck. Now go troll somewhere else, or try to do something useful in your life for once, thats what most of us in TMO do. EDIT: we need a "Fu*k Off" button here next to "Thanks" |
Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
i never knew if n900 could really push some one this much to exert his all farts at the same time lol ,what is it ? kind of anger ?jealousy ?depression ? or the maemo invade is bumping the arses of all those smartphones in the market ? sorry for u foxhead )) get a n900 and get a life
hail n900 )) |

The difference is N900 have applications. Others have "apps". Maemo is an operating system, iOS and Android are fancy app-launcers with some APIs. |
Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
@OP:
men.....just go and get the device! why lie around and do all of this?! RIP to you as well :P |
Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.

Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.

Show me another device that can control your Xbox, PS3, TV, media centre and replace your tv remote control? Someone mentioned USB to ethernet already, I am not aware of any phone that can that... What other phone allows SSH access via WIFi and the freedom to hack and modify every aspect of the device? Even a basic function of changing the background on individual desktops is not possible on the iPhone or Android device! I can go on if you like. |
Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
name your apps decently or fade away ))
hail n900 |

Re: Announcement: N900 R.I.P.
if you would want to list the apps for the n900 then you would have <damn there isn't an infinity character on my keyboard> apps because of:
1.easy debian 2.compiling apps from source (on easy debian) 3.oh easy debian (alien files) 4.not to forget booting ubuntu nitdroid and whatnot in your pocket 5.preenv 6.leave this one for ways i stil havent discovered yesterday i found out that you could run fedora and ubuntu and something else in an easy debian chroot & desktop style and another great n900 aspect is that on other phone you hear for example i heard that some (probably a super hacker 60+ years experience) booted ubuntu on an iphone on the n900 you do it your self because it is usually just a simple matter of at the worst for super noobs copyin and pastin stuff from a post or wiki in xterm |
