They already gave up on mobile software and there's no money in just being a MS manufacturer. Hopefully Elop and all EVPs tranfer to MS along with the mobile division, and Nokia can start rebuilding itself with fresh management.

Maybe they'll go back to making boots and sporting good. Maybe they'll dive into the lucrative underwear business. God knows everyone needs a new pair after the recent massive layoffs at Nokia.

But it would be something a lot of people had tought about... do you remember the guy who asked elop if he is a trojan horse? ;)

Oooo... you wanna bet on this? I'll bet against you that at least PART of Nokia gets bought by Microsoft before the year ends! :) (Somehow, I get the feeling Microsoft will buy a large portion of Nokia's IP or Nokia's cellphone division, leaving Nokia back to a tiny little localized Finnish company making non-cellular stuff like boots, boats and other necessities the locals will buy.)

They have already agreed on this, long time before any of us found out that there is smoke on the "burning platform". The shareholder's money is the most important.

Who cares if they produce boots, boats, and toilet paper afterwards (I hope it will be quality stuff).

I'm praying this happens and that Windows Phone 7 Nokias come out in a sleek form.
But then out-of-nowhere, LG/OEM picks up MeeGo and makes a better high-end phone then Microkia, possibly porting Dalvik to it. And then we all upgrade our N900 and send Nokia "i told you so" emails. :D

eldar is just gunning for attention. this will never happen. it was considered and shelved. that's why MS then decided to work with Nokia (in the announcement that caused hell on the net a couple of months ago).

Everyone had better get used to the idea that Microsoft/Nokia will mean Maemo being replaced by WP7 and i think not before time either, have we not waited long enough for a fully workable OS and here it comes !!!.

Just think... a fully configurable N900 to a Windows OS has got to be good news has it not?.

PS do i duck and run now ? :p

It's not good news to me; just the action of another big company I don't care about.

Unlike Elop, Balmer and shareholders we do not see the entire picture/plan.

The only think we can do is speculate, whenever they decide to disclose a bit of information.

Examples:
- 10 September 2010, Nokia appoints Microsoft executive as new head
- 1. November 2010, Ari Jaaksi, leaving Nokia
- 11 February 2011, Open Letter from CEO Stephen Elop, Nokia and CEO Steve Ballmer, Microsoft
- 27 April 2011, Nokia announces next steps in transformation
- 16 May 2011, Nokia kills off Ovi mobile brand

This usually happens when they have to do it, simple because it is the time for next move to be made.

If you retrace the steps (at least the steps we had a chance to be aware of) they made since last year, you will see where this line leads.

The fact that many people don't like Eldar, nor share his opinion, does not make his "prediction" less probable.

I'm sure those 100k emails from people who upgraded would be quite a nuisance to Nokia :)

an update at engadget:

Update: As Reonhato pointed out in comments, Mark Squires, UK Communications Director for Nokia, has already issued an uncharacteristically pointed non-comment. "We typically don't comment on rumors. But we have to say that Eldar's rumors are getting obviously less accurate with every passing moment."

Lets hope that he says the truth...
