Anyone have any issues with cifs? I didn't get any complaints from insmod, but maybe the old 800 cifs.ko doesn't work with the new kernel?

Greetings:

issues:
- Opera hangs at websites with HTTPS
- Backup my files with old firmware on SD card, with new firmware
application manager does not see the backup file.
- maybe just a bad connection with Skype, sound was very poor.

Regards Robert

See This capitalized letters? anotHer bug (but it was present even before).
The Keyboard chooses, alone, to go capital once in a while.

EDIT: it works now. no iDea what happened

When you type on the virtual keyboard if you hold the key for a moment then pull up it will capitalize, or do whatever shift - key does. Perhaps that is your problem???

the update is great IMO. Exactly what an update should be - again - IMO. Being overseas it is really nice to have Skype on the N800 now. Gizmo was fine, but costs more, and often the sound quality was bad. I hope to have a better experience with Skype! Googletalk always worked just fine - but only comp to comp. Gtalk2voip - haven't used that one in a while. The developer is really nice though!

Flash 9 is welcome, but UKtube plays utube vids much better than they appear on youtube - and only slightly more of a hassle.

I'll stop rambling now.

The only problem I have had is not being able to install Pidgin :(

Ok I did the install and have played with it for a bit

- The touchscreen improvements are great, this really works much better now.
- The youtube support is marginally better once the entire screen loads its smoother
- Google Reader works better but is still unusably slow.
- Skype works great! The sound quality is good, did a chat and it worked well.
- I did a complete flash meaning no restore from backup, I therefore haven't had any issues apart from the re-direct issue.

Anyway to conclude, the best way to update may be to forget about installing a backup and just start from scratch. The best part of this update is the touchscreen sensitivity settings and skype. I wish a new opera version could come out with better Google reader support but oh well :)

I've flashed, restored from backup and am not having https or redirect problems whatsoever. Also did not have custom themes installed so I never saw the graphical corruption issues either.

Sounds like bug #1206 still isn't fixed... :(

I've also had a one-off problem where the virtual keyboard was permanently stuck in CAPS mode - pressing CAPS or SHIFT didn't seem to have any affect. This was in Skype.

And who designed the Skype account sign up dialog for Christs sake? You don't find out until the 3rd and final dialog that the username you have chosen (in dialog #1) is already used so back to the beginning of the process you go having to re-enter your full name, chosen username, password (twice) and email address... The sign up process really MUST remember the details already entered, or put the username entry field in the last dialog!

Also, searching for a contact in Skype is a bit wierd... it took me a while to work out how to get back to the main Skype window (click the X in the "Add Contact" window). And searching for a second contact adds the results to the end of the first search, with no way to clear down the previous search - not smart.

@qgil - should Skype bugs/issues be reported in Maemo Bugzilla, if not where?

I've found no new major bugs, probably because I didn't restore. Sadly this firmware still has several trivial and major bugs that have been open in Bugzilla for far too long.

Agreed. I see these improvements and I did a clean install of the new firmware as well... for speed and out of the memory of updating other O/S's.

I re-flashed this AM (GMT -5 or 6 ish...) and am just now able to sit down and try the web content you mentioned.

A lot of the mess some are experiencing MAY be do to the plethora of third party apps we all load out of necessity. :) Weird things occur. Alternative themes sometimes are the culprit but then again most never played right or gave back resources correctly anyway IMHO.

Once I see an app behave as some themes did prior to the update I 86 the beasts. If after a reboot they linger in some form (like the Opera icon or the scripted "Please wait" as the power up/power down image I can't wait for a reason to re-flash with a clean OS. (BTW, IMHO this is ultimately an OS fault and not the builder of the beast. :) )

This also indicates (to me at least) that the UI is still being developed...

On that note. It appears layers have been added to the home screen. It's either that or I can't remember what the previous OS themes looked like. I never noticed attempts to make the icon bars look 3D in any of Nokia's themes before. Looks like at least one transparent layer.

It arbitrarily capitalizes on me on characters 2, 3 and 4 regardless of typing speed. I noticed on bugzilla I'm not the only one experiencing that strangeness. Interestingly, when it choose sto do this, it also refuses to automatically capitalize the first character after a period, as it should.
