Re: [ANNOUNCE] Script (speedpatch) + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 (Update) Added Another Version

What we are trying to figure out is to which patch we should revert, given that the recent patches are not performing as well as the ones before, so don't install anything as yet until we have reached a decision.

i have released a new version for people having problems
read part3 at the first post

also fixed the battery drain since the 28/6/2011 update
the bettery drain was caused by some values (epitaph) provided causing the ram be in use all the time
but i removed them and every thing is normal now

PS you may wanna try enable both smartreflexes : vdd1 and vdd2
by editing

/usr/share/kernel-power-settings/default

and change vdd1=0 to vdd1=1
and vdd2=0 to vdd2=1

this will give 2x battery
but you will not be able to overlocak more than 805mhz (while enabling the smart reflex) it is a known common problem
and if any unexpected reboots occured
then disable the smart reflex by changing vdd1 and vdd2 to vdd1=0 and vdd2=0

EDIT: Do you think guys i should make a new thread only for testing
these patches?

1. i already have. followed your instructions and removed the .profile and things are working wonders. tons more improvement compared to the other patch with the extra scripts. so, i've already kinda decided which one is best

2. i think you don't need to make a new thread for testing patches. what you could do is just organise the first post like how you did and it should be fine.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Script (speedpatch) + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 (Update) Added Another Version

1-) Download the patch.tar.gz from attachments or HERE it contains the patchit.sh and the transitions.ini
place it in MyDocs

2-) Apply The patch:

------------------------------------------------------
sudo gainroot

tar xzvf MyDocs/speedpatch.tar.gz
chmod +rwx speedpatch.sh
./speedpatch.sh
rm /home/user/.profile_root
mv transitions.ini MyDocs
rm speedpatch.sh

------------------------------------------------------
Then REBOOT

PS: Ignore the error about /home/user/.profile not exists cause it will create it for the first time

this is the instruction to be followed.. its clearly noted there...i have just followed the above instructions and its working great for me ... :)

1. install rootsh
2. install leafpad
3. go to xterm, type:

Code:

root
leafpad /home/user/.kernel/default

and change the settings there.

i recommend using this method compared to qcpufreq.

if you're not familiar with xterm, download qcpufreq and choose to enable smartreflex.

remember not to overclock to more than 805MHz

have mentioned you earlier just download the ALTERNATIVE one and follow the instruction ......

------------------------------------------------
sudo gainroot
------------------------------------------------

cd /home/user/MyDocs
tar xzvf speedpatch-ALTERNATIVE.tar.gz
mkdir /usr/local/sbin
cp /root/.profile /root/.profile.bak
cp /home/user/MyDocs/.profile_root /root/.profile
cp /home/user/MyDocs/.profile /home/user/
cp /home/user/MyDocs/speedpatch /etc/event.d/
cp /home/user/MyDocs/cgroup_clean /usr/local/sbin
chmod +rwx /usr/local/sbin/cgroup_clean
rm /home/user/MyDocs/.profile_root
rm /home/user/MyDocs/.profile
rm /home/user/MyDocs/speedpatch
rm /home/user/MyDocs/cgroup_clean

------------------------------------------------
Then REBOOT

hope this will help you

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Script (speedpatch) + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 (Update) Added Another Version

actually, like what karam said, since we're not entirely sure which patch is the best, those who are still new and not sure about modding around xterm should probably wait for a definitive one to be decided on first.

probably only those who have full confidence in meddling around xterm and have no problems reverting it back to normal should test it.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Script (speedpatch) + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 (Update) Added Another Version

Hmm as i can see most of you prefer option 2
so here is what am i gonna do :

replace post number 5 in page 1
with a temporary guide about
the option 2 patch
and when we are sure that it is better than the current patches
i will post it in post number 1

But i will do that after a while
got some studying to finish
please be patient

is option two the alternative one..in the first page der is no option given.how do i understand which one is option 2

trisha02 2011-07-01 16:28

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Script (speedpatch) + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 (Update) Added Another Version

ok i c these are the two options

and option 2 : will make me post only one patch no alternative

with option 1 : i will have to post two patches (becuase some users will not be able to apply the default one
only alternative

i prefer simplicity and the best quality.jst make it simple and faster and make N900 save battery.dat will do.:D...i just love this thread:D

Sorry for the late response guys

Here is My log:

First patch :
was made to work on both N900 and Desktop PC
and it is just the one after doing
rm /home/user/.profile
mv /root/.porfile.bak /root/.profile

Second patch : it is just like the first one
but only adds some lines to rc.local
(THE ONE THAT SOME MEMBERS REPORTED IS THE BEST ONE)

Third patch : was recreated by thingonnaspring
changes the second patch from 60 - 100 lines into 10 -15 lines
and added lines to /home/user/.profile
BUT it only works on N900 NOT the Desktop PC

Forth patch : adds values suggested by epitaph (Many times)
But it ruined the ram and battery

Fifths patch (The current one): Removed the values suggested by epitaph
and adds lines to /root/.profile

Bottom line :

I think that adding lines to /home/user/.profile and /root/.profile
will decrease the performance

the patch recreated by thingonnaspring causes troubles for beginers
so added the patch-ALTERNATIVE.tar.gz wich solves the problem

SOOOOOOOOOO:

what do you guys suggest

1-) put thingonnaspring recreated patch + patch-alternative.tar.gz
but remove the /home/user/.profile (wich gives better performance)
this will make the patch works only on N900 not Desktop PC
and it will also make 2 patches
so users may get confused (as i saw in earlier posts)

2-)put the Second patch mentioned in log
and remove /home/user/.profile (wich will give better performance)
this will work on N900 and Desktop PC
and will be easy for begineers (they will not be confused)

IMO i think option 2
because it will be a simple file
it will get activated in 3 lines
there will not be an alternative patch
it will not cause troubles to beginer users
it will give the best performance (also option 1 does)

i don't prefer option1 :
because
there will be 2 patches (default one and the alternative)
users may get confused
noob users will have to use alternative

So what do you think guys ?
i need a vote
so i know what to do

i just reinstalled your new patch but still get the same errors.

i think i agree, the first time i did your patch it was great....but now getting errors.

BENCHMARK
The simplest way to see how the patch effect
is to open browser windows about 8 before applying the patch
and 8 after applying the patch
you will notice a huge improvement

Everyone

I have posted a guide for installing the patch we have been talking about

post number 5 in page number 1

please test it and tell me the result back
(if it is better than the patch in post 1)

Cheers

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Script (speedpatch) + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 (Update) Added Another Version

Why won't you just make an install.sh and put the alternate howto in it? Then it would be fewer steps..

1. tar xzvf speedpatch-ALTERNATIVE.tar.gz
2. cd speedpatch
3. chmod +x install.sh
4. ./install.sh

You could also include case so it would be "./install -i" for install and "./install -u" for uninstall.

But i don't have time to rewirte or test anything
all the files are made a month ago

PS: i don't have My N900 Now

If you want you can help and write a one
it will be better

A bit late in this discussion and yes, I know about the "thanks" option, but I'd like say thank you to developers of this script it worked for me.

I'm using it along with CSSU and swapolube and everything's worked fine so far.

I tried but I've got the "/dev/cgroup/cpu/user/': Permission denied" error.

So, I tried the Alternative patch.

Is the patch in post #5 any different? I've got quite confused!

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Script (speedpatch) + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 (Update) Added Another Version

@dark_anglies85
Just follow the post5 instructions
that means yes you do have to remove .profile from /home/user
and restore the orginal .profile in /root by mv /root/.profile.bak /root/.profile

@lsoano

You should follow the post5 instructions
i will make it in post 1 soon (probably tommorow)

And post5 makes a huge difference

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Super Script + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 Dramatically (FINAL VERSION)

@sanros

The transition.ini gives you more speed of transitions between apps
and desktop

and the transition.ini works on every theme
i have edited a bit in that part
re read it
