@sanros
enter in xterm:

cd /dev/cgroup/cpu

if it is done then the patch is applied
BTW : patch doesn't improve browser because it can not be better than it is
but you can try opening many many windows and see how cool multitasking and how fast rendering in browser will be
You can try in multiple apps (conversation , panorama view, contacrs etc...)

@nafajafam

glad to help :)

BTW Karam,

I am impressed with all your hard work.
Great improvement to the n900.

Well done with all the hard work... thanks

My battery seemed to be draining very fast... constant memory access, but seems ok now... not formally tested but kool
.

cheers

That problem happened in the older version
but now (THANK GOD) every thing is stable
fast and furious

ps i didn't have even 1 unexpected reboot
thank you karam

yes i wrote this in xterm and it is there :)
karam really i cannot differentiate opening 8 or more browser windows without script and with script, multitasking and rendering is same as without script, idk if the script is working? idk if i am successful in applying the script. so need some guidance from you.

karam one thing more i want to ask may be its a noob question but i will ask it anyway because i just want to know, when (bash ./speedpatch.sh) command is given in xterm it applies the script and asks for reboot but why do we give these (rm speedpatch.sh
/etc/rc.local) commands and then reboot?

thank you for your hardwork:) thats why all n900 owners can enjoy something new:D

karam 2011-07-02 20:47

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Super Script + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 Dramatically (FINAL VERSION)

Well

rm speedpatch.sh # removes the speedpatch applier from /home/user
because it is no more needed
/etc/rc.local
to apply the patch after installing
to make it work with out rebooting
although a reboot is recommended

PS: you may feel no differences
maybe because you are not used to stress N900 a lot
or maybe overloaked n900 a lot
if so then decloak and you will see the same performance

cheers

i don't know why you feel nothing
maybe you need more test
try the apps you usually use

there is no doubt that you will feel a difference

good work karam!

works great...just took off the old patch and added the new one as posted on #1.

worked great. and has been for the last few hours...also installed it on one of my other units and it is also great!

i will be putting it on my other 3 units after a couple days.....but it makes a difference for sure and is now stable.

;)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Super Script + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 Dramatically (FINAL VERSION)

Don't know that karam. Never even opened a thread here, I think.
All I wanted to say is that this mod/patch/script/whatever is a MUST DO for everyone. I'd like to tell every owner of a N900 that he has to apply this script to improve overall performance and experience. Sorry to put some dirt in the thread, but I had to. This work of yours deserves a lot of thanks for the benefits it gives to us.
Thanks!

i tried installing it. but when i type:
cp /home/user/Mydocs/speedpatch.tar.gz ./tar xzvf speedpatch.tar.gz

i get this:
cp: cannot create 'speedpatch.tar.gz/speedpatch.tar.gz': Patch does not exist
cp: cannot stat './tar': No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat 'xzvf': No such file or directory

what's wrong?

yes, your question has been asked an answered many times. the best way to install/ uninstall is to copy and past commands into xterm

You better copy from the browser and paste it on the terminal.

Now that I look closely at what you wrote, I found you misspelled "MyDocs" too.

Copy/paste it, it is safer. Good luck!

you mean to say that i should not use overcloaking?
i use overclocking some times and mostly at 800mhz
but right now i am using it stock at 600mhz and i cannot differenciate without or with script.
before applying the script i had all the tweaks done almost from last 6 months, just cssu is not done even before or after applying the script. does cssu help the script to speed up the n900? should i install it?
idk why i am not feeling any difference :(

P.S-sorry to say karam but the 8 browser windows test without script was smoother , with script its not as smooth as it was without.
i have done this test 2 times but same result i am feeling my n900 bit choppy after the script :(
am i doing anything wrong?
i really appreciate your hardwork but idk whats wrong with my n900:(

I may have to agree with karam.

In my case I don't overclock my N900 (I wanted to take care of this device and keep this for as long as I can). For me, this script opened the door for an alternative to overclocking when it comes to achieving better performance to some extent.

As for my usage pattern, speed/responsiveness is okay with CSSU and Swappolube, as well as some best practices (i.e. not having too many widgets or apps that keep on running in the background).

What just concerns me is the slowdown whenever I turn on my IM application since I rarely open multiple instances of the browser. Multi-tasking when IM is on makes my N900 really slow. When I applied this script, that's when I really noticed the difference. :) Basically the script does its job during the times that I need performance/responsiveness the most (i.e. situations of high load on CPU/memory).

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Super Script + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 Dramatically (FINAL VERSION)

having this script with swap on my class 10 sd card overclocked with 250-750 with smart reflex enabled makes my phone a pleasant experience for once. Like its not even fair how responsive it is. Only time will tell, Im one of those users that usually doesnt get a day out of hildon-desktop without it freezing up. I did a reflash 2 days ago but however I can tell a huge difference with the script.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Super Script + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 Dramatically (FINAL VERSION)

i have backed off on the clocking down to 750 from 900 also turned smart reflex on, just shows how well this script works. just wondering how mame games will respond with change, will see :)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Super Script + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 Dramatically (FINAL VERSION)

hmmm..

karam.

i've not been getting fluid multitasking lately. i've tried reinstalling just to make sure i didn't miything and checked with /dev/cgroup/cpu and the patch is indeed there.

i don't know if it's because i stress it too much.. this is what i was doing until hildon-home showed warnings of crashing, and many instances of prompts where the apps were also crashing and the phone became extremely unresponsive.

3 accounts online, FAM updating catalogs, 3 web browsers loading, conky, and 1 SMS coming. phone froze many times and hildon-home crashing many times. the widgets i have are:

personal dataplan monitor
cpu memory statusbar monitor
personal IP
calender widget
conversations inbox
mediaplayer widget...

what's wrong? i remember one or two previous patches where it ran super smooth without any signs of crashing...

EDIT: i think i found a workaround to it. i'll test it some more and if it works, i'll post what i did to make it work.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Super Script + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 Dramatically (FINAL VERSION)

this preasent script is better than the 1 epitah got his hands on but i found much better with performance with the scrit just before that im just wondering i the remove process has anything to do with these users unexpected results with the new script
the first time i installed this it was brilliant but since reaplying the newer versions its not quite as good but still better than stock

karam 2011-07-03 18:14

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Super Script + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 Dramatically (FINAL VERSION)

@Dark_Angel85

i don't know what happened in your N900
But in my experience of using N900

personal dataplan monitor
caused me a lot of troubles
i removed it

FAM updating catalogs or HAM (if it was bziping the downloaded packages + conky) will cause a crash with hildon-desktop
it is a bug in hildon it self
not with the patch

and everything else should be normal

@stooobs

i didn't inderstand evreything you said but what i understanded is that older versions are better

well this version is a reverse for older versions :)
install the newest version available

EDIT : aah i just got what you said
no it has nothing to do with removeing process
however you must remove older versions before installing the new one

been using it for 2 days and it acts great
no lags no unexpected reboots no crashes

thanks a lot for the effort spent on it

i just remembered that this problem happened with tisha
he disabled the Hwsync and it all went good

to disable it read the first post in the tweaks part

as per the first post, some users will experience problems if they enable hardware acceleration - so disable it first if you have it enabled and see how it works out. that is the first thing i would do.
the patch does what it is supposed to and is great thus far.

can you compile this script as an installable file?Is it possible? Too many commands and too little time to experiment with it.Thanks for your work though.

karam 2011-07-03 20:01

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Super Script + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 Dramatically (FINAL VERSION)

Hmm just like nafajafam said
Hwsync causes some troubles for some N900 users
and
sophocha
i will make a 1 file that applies the patch
so it will be

chmod +rwx (the file)
./(the file)

but tommorow when i have enough time
and i will edit the first post and put a waring about HWSYNC
