it restarts lots of processes like desktop, status menu, contacts, phone etc. this refreshes your ram usage and hence can be good for uptime of the n900. it would take little battery, shouldn't be much though.

I don't know if it's your script or the tweaks, but my battery lasts much much more longer. Two days ago, I left my phone with 3% battery for the night, and it was still on 8 hours later. When I first bought it it was 40% for the night!
Otherwise I don't really notice any speed up but I don't multitask much anyway.

sorry i took too late to respond
my grandma is dead lately :(

however i will put my latest values of profile
it seems to me it lasts very long on standby
but a continues usage it will take about 2 - 4 percent each 10 minutes
i guess that's good for me
will see for others
and if you made vfs cache 100 again
you will get the previous old status
very short standby time
and a bit longer of continues usage

i prefer a long standby time

i had flash my N900.i accidently deleted the transition from usr share hildon-desktop.and the phone rebooted and hildon dekstop was not coming.it was jst flashing.then again reboot.i panicked and flashed.was der ny oder way?...nyz i will install the scripts now.and the battery tweaks.bt it seems that the phone is very fast without the scripts.may b i just reflashed it thts y.nyz karam.i feel sorry fr ur loss.:(

Hello. If i overclock my n900 to 850 MHZ, it is rebooted (it is fine at 805). How can i solve it?

That is caused if you enabled SmartReflex above 805Mhz. I had the same issue.

now back to work
i have two options of the battery tweaks :

1-) use the ideal profile but change the upthreshold to 95
and change the samplerate to 300000
enable vdd1 and vdd2 (change to 1)
set powersave_bias to 20
and change maxfreq to 600 or 750 (safer)
and change ignore_nice_load to 0

2-) use default profile
and enable vdd1 and vdd2
and change powersave_bias to 20

those are the best i found
but i prefer option 1

but can some one confirm that if changing vfs cache to 100 will get a longer continues usage but shorter standby time?

because leaving it at 805 will make the phone unstable while enabled smartreflex

and do these changes with a fresh ideal profile (not the one in first post!)

ive reflashed my phone twice and its still not working. only other thing I did today was update 2 apps (meecalc and qtlockscreen)

i have been testing this out
and it really gave me a great result
2% each 10 minutes sometimes only 1%
plus the long standby time is still present
full day with 85% left

accidentally changed the default nice value of "tracker-indexer". now its always 19. how can i change it back to 0 again??? please please.....help

install tracker-cfg
HOW TO:mentioned in 1# post
open it and press the address bar -----> press restore default-----> save-----> restart tracker
this should solve your problem

thanks for the help. I tried restoring the default but it didnt restore the default NICE value.

please someone help me. isnt there anybody who knows "nice" and "renice" command and use them to change the default NICE value of a process.

as i mentioned earlier i flashed my N900.then installed ur speedpatch.working fyn.in the battery tweaks i did only the ideal profile.havent installed swapploube.or tacker cfg.but only with the ideal profile my cell drains battery like anythng.as i dnt hav ny games installed.so dint play.nor browsed.jst made 3 calls nd txtd 1 msg.at 10 my battery was 95.nw at 5 its 40 percent.

wen i rouched the top menu bar line i can see only two applets in my n900 i.e volume option and battery percentage option... i cant see the all applets like fm transmetter,shortuts,internet,clock,bluetooth etc... the default also went off...how to get it back

solve:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install --resinstall hildon-status-menu

Reboot
or use powatool to get them back

not sure if this will solve but it is the only option i can give

o CAN any one test these settings before i put them in the 1st post

it gave me the best battery life
(of course with vfs cache 10!!!)
very long standby time (3-4 days)
and an acceptable continues usage time (2-3% each 10 -15 minutes)

I have been testing those settings and i noticed that with continued use my battery drains from full to about 15% in about 8-9 hrs, these a what i have running

-Nokia messaging config to push emails from 8am-8pm everyday with 5 email accounts

-ovi contacts always on 24hrs

-sociality updating every 30mins

-forecaweather updating every 8am

-data plan monitor widget updating every 10mins

-widgets include; data plan monitor, ip address, email, conversations and media player

-the occasional call, sms and IM every 2hrs approx, and web browsing and twitter every 2-3 hrs for 10-15mins at a time



Standby battery usage has been very good, overnight battery consumption about 15%, but i think its because i have sociality, ovi and all the other widgets constantly running in the back ground.

I think the ideal settings should offer a balance between continued usage and standby time

I think that the settings are good as well, the problem is that for the way i use my phone at time need more continued usage time than standby time and sometimes i need more standby time that continued usage time, thats why i suggested a balance of continued usage and standby

i have figured out that the vfs cache make us get a long standby time
If changed vfs cache back to default (100) you will have the normal continues usage
sooooo:
i'm thinking to make a script that when we lock the screen of n900 the vfs cache changed to 10 which will give us a long standby time while n900 is locked
and when we unlock the screen the vfs cache changes back to 100
which will give us a long continues usage time

super perfect idea
but not super perfect me to do that kind of scripts
i don't have a lot of info about how does N900 manages the screen lock and unlock

Yes that is a really great idea, Maybe you can ask MAG for some help with the script, he seems to know the inner workings of the n900 like the back of his hand :)
