Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Tweaks To Speed UP N900 Dramatically + Battery Improvements (NEW EFFECTIVE TWEAK)

we don't need to add
/opt/scripts/cpu_sleep.sh * * com.nokia.mce.signal display_status_ind off

because when the call ends the system goes inactive
which means the
/opt/scripts/cpu_sleep.sh * * com.nokia.mce.signal system_inactivity_ind
command will do the job and set vfs back to 10

Nice and easy, should work :)

even if you checked the clock
vfs will turn to 100
then return to 10 when the system is inactive

inactive : if you don't press any button or no tasks that suck up the cpu are active then the system is considered to be inactive in that case

karam, system_inactivity_ind occur not only when the system goes inactive, but also occur when the system goes active, too. it show the status change from false (active) to true (inactive), or vice versa (cmiiw).

you could check it using:
dbus-monitor --system --monitor "interface='com.nokia.mce.signal'"
or, using:
/usr/sbin/dbus-script --system --debug "'interface='com.nokia.mce.signal'"

for the last command, execute it as a non-root user.

It seems those two files are delivered with package 'dbus-scripts', as both list the same author and both have the same timestamp, as well as the same content as when being extracted from 'dbus-scripts'. So they BOTH do not need to be included in battery-patch.

it started from
------------------------------------
Download betterypatch.tar.gz from attachments or from HERE

Download install-battery.sh.txt from attachments or from HERE

Paste Both Files in MyDocs
------------------------------------

you kow what MyDocs Means?
if you have used speedpatch you should know how to deal with this

MyDocs: is the root directory of the fat32 partition on N900
english: it is the directory that you see when you plug N900 to the computer with a usb
no sub directories

when you download the 2 files (tar.gz and .txt) you and paste them in MyDocs
you shouldn't have any troubles
and BTW you may wanna wait a bit cause the next update (which will not be very soon ) i'm planning to do a lot of changes with the battery tweak
but i will not change anything in speedpatch

Hi Karam. Thanks for your reply. Yes I did what you mentioned above yesterday. I had done the download method and saved it on MyDocs. Then deleted the 2 files since I couldnt get it to work to copy and paste when I plug the device into my laptop and just pasted it where the speedpatch file was which as you say is the first window I see when I open the n900 harddrive icon in "My Computer" via USB connection. I will still try to figure it out and will give an update. Definitely look forward to your next battery patch good sir! Thanks again for your reply!

There is nothing wrong with the device as such, just a **** battery and a lack of understanding of the notion that computer uses power when it is in use.

That and a COMPLETE lack of ability to read.

i think the phone don't fit on you. buy a new one that don't need some extras skill to operate it.
i suggest you to buy iphone or maybe the next nokia wp7.

if you still got problem regarding the battery performance in those phone too, you could ask it in another forum related to those phone.

OMFG i tested last night and got ~2200 wakeups (~800 while offline & locked / display off) while being connected to 3G. Now get off my friggin' lawn! Learn how to correctly interpret powertop results and use a proper battery.

This is not the right thread for your retaining issue, so get out of here. You still seem not so worse as zurrain is, but you're getting closer...

Sure? Did you copy the header of file 'dbus-script' then, or why does it show the same first lines?

Yes, pretty sure. I installed manually and checked all existing or non-exisitng items.
dbus-scripts existed
dbus-scripts-session needs to be created on ones own
I think karam mixed here a little bit in the rush.
So, do not provide dbus-scripts, but only dbus-scripts-session with following content:
Code:

description "dbus-scripts-session"
author "Graham Cobb <g+770@cobb.uk.net>"

start on started hildon-desktop
stop on stopping hildon-desktop

console none

exec run-standalone.sh /usr/sbin/dbus-scripts --session
respawn

About that thing with telephony and vfs_cache:
Yes, karam, You are right. There is no need to add anything. I tested it and vfs came to 100 on call arriving and was set back to 10 after call with inactivity events. So please forget my former sayings.

BUT:
the vfs was also set to 10 during a call, because of proximity sensor and locking state.
I added/modified following to the cpu_sleep.sh:
Code:

#!/bin/sh

brightness=$(cat /sys/class/backlight/acx565akm/brightness)
keyboard=$(cat /sys/devices/platform/gpio-switch/slide/state)
proximity=$(cat /sys/devices/platform/gpio-switch/proximity/state)

if [ "$brightness" == "0" -a "$keyboard" == "closed" -a "$proximity" == "open" ]; then
        echo 10 > /proc/sys/vm/vfs_cache_pressure
fi

This will add the check for the proximity sensor.
If we keep a finger on it, the pressure will not be reduced, but kept at 100 (as feature:) someone may claim it as bug for accidentally keeping the sensor closed while locking, but I see it as feature :D)
This will also keep track and solves everything related to phone calls. Keeping pressure on 100 during a call...

thank you for reminding me of it

will fix everything on the next update

So what if I unlock my phone (vfs@100), do some sh|t, lock my phone, put it in my pocket. In 15seconds or so, inactivity signal. But oh wait, it's in my pocket, proximity is closed. vfs stays@100.

Think on.

How did you use to check your battery level? I use advanced-power (I think this is it) to check battery percentage on the status applet. Anyway, do you have power kernel installed? If so, is bq27x00 module blacklisted?

I understand APM is Advanced Power Monitor, so it has to be what I use. I remember that few days ago I saw the status battery icon in grey colour after applying any of these tweaks, which I suppose is your case. Did you reboot? That solved my problem.

karam also!

So I had this idea at first I saw this method, but according to vi_s arguments came not up with it earlier.
If someone can point us to a flag showing "we are in a call", we could combine it and are all happy.
Til then I would see it as feature to keep my pressure high even if locked ;)
