Let me use terms you may be more familiar with: Say I was asking a farmer to mark where a landmine exists. The farmer then says "Oh, that is so old it will never go off, I've walked near it several times." What to do? The safety of all is better served by marking where it is, or better by helping to disarm/remove it to make the area safer. Would you say in that case that I should not bother the farmer, and go farm my own land? How does that protect others walking in that area, who may not know of the danger it presents? Now substitute landmine with script and re-read the passage. Do you see why what you've said is illogical and insulting? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900
ok..did everything you said woody..stil:
$ cd /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/ -sh: cd: can't cd to /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/ ~ $ ls BACKqtwallet.db.sqlite applet2.png cache-Nokia-N900 replay_arp-0813-125159.cap Games applet3.png custom-karam sbr MyDocs apps cuteTube-QML share NProfile batterypatch-install.sh.txt filebox-terminal tmp-Nokia-N900 Xorg.0.log book1.png int_kb_layout apmonitord.log book2.png qld.log applet1.png bookmask1.png qtwallet.db.sqlite ~ $ ~ $ is this normal? i see many files with this supposedly speedpatch test..is something still wrong? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900
It means that the "cd" command failed because you don't have any "/dev/cgroup/cpu/user/" directory (so the "ls" command only display your current directory content which remains "/home/user/").
I think your speedpatch install failed if it's what you try to know. PS : "replay_arp-0813-125159.cap" : it is naughty to try to crack wireless connections :P. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900
Hello everybody,
I installed yesturday night the battery and speed patch (kernel power 46 with wl drivers) and this morning, I had a good surprise : my battery was fully drained (yesturday night, it was full and usually, it stand 1 full day before I must recharge it :(). Is there any thing I missed ? (I did both tests for speedpatch and battery patch installation : there were positive) Thanks in advance ;). |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900
i just install the speedpatch but not the battery patch. it seems that the batterypatch overclocking my device. i don't want that.
i install the latest power kernel, cssu update, tracker-cfg, wifi-switcher, reduce brightness, reduce widget, and only one home screen :p. my battery life was improve significantly... thanks karam! :D |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900
Ok, if the batterypatch overclocks the CPU, maybe that's why my phone battery was drain in one night (inactive). :p
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900
batterypatch switches to underclock profile when inactive
you have another problem |

and not in active its inactive please correct it |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900
I uninstalled batterypatch to see if the issue comes from it (or from speedpatch which I installed at the same time as batterypatch).
If I don't have battery problem this night, I will eventually try batterypatch again. When I said my phone was "inactive", I mean I used the phone right side sliding button to stop the screen. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900
Yes, I don't use overclocking so, as you say to me, batterypatch is useless in this case ?
Sadly, I don't know how I can have wl drivers (which could be useful when you travel and you stay in big city with a lot of WEP encrypted networks :p) on kernel power 49. Do you know if there is any port of those drivers on kernel power 49 ? (in fact, it's more a question which belongs to the forum kernel power's topic) So, is my current speedpatch install on a kernel power 46 useless ? |

One thing to consider: While battery patch does in fact underclock the device sometimes, it only does so in certain conditions. In particular, it will only underclock when the device is closed (no keyboard showing) and the screen backlight is off. If you have the keyboard open, or have the config set to leave backlight on when plugged in, it will never underclock in those conditions. Secondly, it may be underclocking that's causing you issues. Many people run overclock profiles without a problem (I run mine constantly at 500-900 without issue). But if you install batterypatch any time you add lots of new media that needs updating with tracker and the like, that can cause it to use lots more battery than it would normally . Let me explain: Suppose you just flashed your device, and are setting up fresh. You install all your apps, and all the media you want, then later you plug it in to charge and go to sleep. At some point, tracker kicks in and goes off to find and index all the new media. What normally would happen is the system would ramp quickly up to 600Mhz and make all the thumbnails and what not it needs. Lets say that takes an hour, the device then has several more hours of sleep time to catch up and fully charge the battery. With Batterypatch though, tracker is reniced (being a background process), and "IGNORE_NICE_LOADS" is set, so it will run for it's duration at 125Mhz only. In this case, even though tracker is running top notch, it will never kick up to a higher speed. What would normally take an hour running at 600Mhz before will take closer to 5 hours at 125Mhz. And since 125Mhz is an active mode (not sleeping), it will eat most of the power that would have gone to charging the battery (especially if using a low-power < 1A charger). If there's enough media, it may just run all night, and never have a chance to charge at all, using all the power it gets to index instead. This is one of the dangers of tweaking parameters in the kernel for "optimal performance" for a certain use case. What may be fine for common use can cause problems when doing things that are less common, or not considered as part of the standard use case. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900
hey Karam. thanks for ur hard work but i have a question. why phone just stays at 720-805 mhz during call. isn't its dangerous for the cpu to be overclocked for a hour or more ?
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900
that's true
i have made some mistakes The new version of batterypatch is in extras changelog: * Fixed the problem causing to load cpu_sleep many times while idle * Added new pausing scripts while in idle * Added overclock-while-in-call profile * Warning in description about overclocking * Changed installation method: all KP49> has vdd1=0 * Installation results with clean dbus-scripts patch: only includes needed files also batterypatch-testing has new tweaks which will hopefully increase the continues time of usage but need some people to confirm it so i can move the changes to batterypatch SOME INFO ABOUT NEW BATTERYPATCH minfreq for overclock-call is 600 it's only activated until the call is answered a new profile is created (overclock-while-in-call) which will be loaded directly after answering a call it is the same as overclock (so 250 is min freq when talking on N900) i made a this new profile so anyone can edit it separated from overclock profile (the one used by default) @woody i have added warning about OC to description i recommend any one who was disappointed from previous versions to try this one |

are you using kernel-power 49 ? or pre50 ?
if [ "$kernel " == "2.6.28.10-power49" ]; then kernel-config load default mv /opt/dbus-scripts/overclock49-50 /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/overclock mv /opt/dbus-scripts/overclock-call49-50 /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/overclock-call mv /opt/dbus-scripts/overclock-while-in-call49-50 /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/overclock-while-in-call mv /opt/dbus-scripts/underclock49-50 /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/underclock else rm /opt/dbus-scripts/overclock49-50 rm /opt/dbus-scripts/overclock-call49-50 rm /opt/dbus-scripts/overclock-while-in-call49-50 fi this is part off postinst script if you are using 49 or pre50 or 50 it will load the overclock profile with vdd1 enabled /EDIT : oops i have a problem (typo) in postinst with batterypatch-testing i will fix it now thank you for notifying me /EDIT2 : please update to 5.1 stable or 4.1 testing |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900 / NEW BATTERYPATCH UPDATE
testing 4.0 is consuming battery. and one more bug it doesnt load overclock-while-in-call profile when attend call. it stays at overclock-call. batterypatch stable 4.5 was giving more battery than testing 4.0. will check both 4.1 and 5.1. thanks for the update.
is this is fixed in newer version ? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900 / NEW BATTERYPATCH UPDATE
of course
but just determinate the problems @ricardo8 so far : the latest stable update has video problem ? can you do the following : 1-) reboot N900 normally start playing a video (twice) 2-) load dsp profile and replay the same video if the there is no problem with the video playback with dsp then the problem is from overclock profile if there is problem playing the video with dsp then the problem is from cpu_normal i personally cannot determinate the problem because i'm not having it @panjgoori how did you check overclcok-while-in-call was not loaded ? the only way is with SSH if u are using 4.0 . update to 4.1 because 4.0 has a major typo which will remove profiles |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900 / NEW BATTERYPATCH UPDATE
I'm seeing something strange with current battery patch:
The phone won't vibrate anymore on incoming SMS and the yellow notification bubble doesn't appear either. Instead the contact's conversation window is opened quietly. I don't know if a notification sound would be played as my phone is always in silent mode. Happens with both battery patch 5.0 and 5.1. Uninstalling battery patch solves the problem. |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900 / NEW BATTERYPATCH UPDATE
Just upgraded to battery patch 5.1, did a clean reboot, and hoped for the best.
Device is now even more unresponsive than before, unlocking (backlight on -> image appears) takes 5 seconds, opening nixieclock took over a minute, after appearing there was still a massive delay (10s no display update, 5s, and ongoing shorter delays). Another minute later, the N900 rebooted. Congratulations for releasing unstable crap again and again in the regular bp package instead of -testing. Really. I'm purging it now and fapman gets a blacklist entry for it. Even if it saves battery, it's not worth the trouble and delays involved  |

if you have a fresh rebooted N900 this always happen with image application if you have many images but after the first launch launching image-viewer takes 0.2 second to get launched oh @ALL can another person confirm the video playback problem ? i'm wondering if it's caused by the stock dsp libraries with overclocked dsp rate personally i'm using HD patch and i get no lags while playing videos @panjgoori i expected so you can't check it via kernel-config show with N900 it self you need to remote SSH here's why : when the screen is off (when you put your head near the speakers) cpu_sleep is launched it switches to overclock-while-in-call when you remove your head the brightness is on which will load cpu_normal and if you are still on the same call (didn't end it) cpu_normal will be launched which will activate overclock-call min 600mhz got it ? actually there is a use of this too : when you speak with some one on speakers on and you want to write some thing with notes (for example) it will be smoother having min freq as 600 mhz btw did you try testing 4.1 ? and can you confirm if you are having video playback problem ? thank you |

thanks but no thanks :D |
