batterypatch is 5.6 is really good. saving more battery now. thanks karam. appreciate your hardwork. what has been changed in bp 5.8 ?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks / NEW VERSION OF SPEEDPATCH(now uses syspart config, no more xterminal problem) TESTERS NEEDED

@ALL
1st post updated
finally the speedpatch xterminal bug section is out!
/EDIT full-removal-script is not needed anymore

@panjgoori
v5.8 there was a problem in postinst (wouldn't effect people who has bp installed) just important for future updates

@freemangordon

i have took a look
you are correct syspart uses cgroup but with freezer
i believe loading cgroup without the freezer ON N900 only gives this extra boost
as well as the apps launched from xterminal by user have their own cgroup
plus there is release_agent which my not be very important
specially on N900 as there are limited count of apps launched by user from xterminal
but overall
there is an extra speed

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have a Perfect N900

installed both patch's and first impression of speedpatch is that my n900 is not as responsive as it was prior to installation, scroling doesn't seem as smooth :(
after rebooting after installation device hung and froze rebooted again and it was still jittery and not as responsive, it's now been about 14 hours since installation and even though it is smooth and responsive it just does not feel like it was before installation.
it's too early to tell with batterypatch.

had to remove speedpatch

i installed the initial versions of speed and battery patch when it was still a script. now how do i uninstall it?

karam 2012-02-18 15:03

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have a Perfect N900

@All speedpatch v4.0 is out nothing much just removed uneeded preinst and postrm scripts

@kent_autistic
speedpatch :
Code:

sudo gainroot
rm /etc/event.d/speedpatch
rm .profile # if you have custom settings then don't remove this
rm .bashrc  # same as for this one
rm /etc/rc.local
#if you have a backup restore it with mv (probably not)
rm /usr/local/sbin/cgroup_clean

then install the one from the repo
don't forget to update catalogs before installing the new one

as for batterypatch:
Code:

rm -r /opt/dbus-scripts
rm /etc/dbus-scripts.d/dbus-scripts-settings-by-karam
rm /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/overclock
rm /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/underclock

Just upgraded to the newest SP. Immediately noticed better performance over the last version I had. Thanks a lot for this. BP, can't tell, but I also just use kernel-config, so I might be uninstalling it, but not sure at this point yet. Still, thanks for your hard work on these two things.

correct
but some human beings cannot realize that :)

let's go back to business

@ALL i may not be able to continue updating speedpatch or batterypatch

having a lot of electricity balckouts and getting to the internet is pretty hard around here (my place)

so before this situation get worst
i need to ask one last question :

batterypatch: is there any problem with video playback/record
or ringtone stutter
or even the configs of the profiles

speedpatch : currently 100% stable and there are no problems installing/uninstalling

Thank you

The latest speedpatch and batterybatch are so good. Thank you Karam. I and my N900 are happy with them. No problem. You have made a real good progress. This is the way open software will be better and better.

Karam, you will find in every forum and in every workplace some people behaving harsh. Be sure thy have reasons out of you and your work. They behave so because they have bad feelings in their own mind. In these days unusual many people have bad feelings because of the new strategy of Nokia.

Thanks for all the work Karam, and hope everything gets better soon.

I've attached some screenshots to show the effect of battery patch on my device. One of them is edited because I merged two screenshots, and one show the battery use under medium load. Ignore the last part of the third picture, because that's on android.

Hi karam,

thank you for the speedpatch.
Well for ALL your great work really.

I just have 1 question.
With my latest update for battery patch,i have issues with video streaming on internet sites.
It turns videos into a slide show at best.

Now i have removed it again.
But i would really like to put it back on my phone.
Is there something i can do to avoid video streaming issues.

Thanks.

checked batterypatch 5.6 (stable).

i checked the following as you asked me to do.

Code:

1- video playback/record
2- ringtone stutter when having an incomming call while N900 is upside down (screen on the floor)

1. video playback/record both are smooth and lag free for me. and didnt noticed any problem.
2. rintone playback while N900 is upside down was also fine for me. no stutter or anything.

Code:

3- overclock profile config
3. overclock profile config image attached.

and i noticed one more bug in new version of batterypatch (5.x i think) as sets 700 max and also adds 700 and 750 in frequency list as both are not supported in kp49.

i also checked batterypatch 4.0 regarding to this issue and but i didnt noticed anything like batterypatch 5.6. i.e unsupported freq thing.

If this is an evidence of well working battery patch, then I'm not very impressed. It is quite identical to mine with exception that I do not use any patch.

Your battery drain is something like 10% per 12h. Is that graph showing voltage [V] or capacity [mAh]?
What activity did you have going on during that time? If just idle, then that performance is not so dramatically good.

Would you be able to show your log from longer period (with fully charged battery)?

ahmadamaj 2012-02-19 19:40

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have a Perfect N900

Sky blue line is battery in mAh
Pink columns is CPU usage
Blue columns are WiFi usage
You can notice in the third pic that the charge at the beginning was almost full.

First of all it depends from phone to phone, what things you have installed, when the last time you restarted... I didn't get such graphs before the patch, and it depends from day to day. As you can see in the second pic, I got 4-5% drop in 10 hours of idle. Also, the third pic shows a 20-22% drop from 11am to 9pm with normal use during the day, around 2% per hour with use, which is very good in my opinion.

OK. I agree that there are variations between devices and your battery performance is at average good level, but my point is that it can be achieved also without patch.

Idle current consumption fully depends on how you have tuned your device (=how much your device get sleep time). Kernel parameters (freq, volt, SR, etc..) and what applications you are running make battery to drain, faster or slower. And by looking battery patch kernel config files, those are not even close to optimal settings... Might be for someone, but for sure not for everybody...

karam 2012-02-19 22:35

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have a Perfect N900

that's true guess
that's why there are 4 profiles used in batterypatch all together

continues time>
overclock for normal using : conservative module | did many tests with all the modules and it attended that conservative is the best saving battery module with CONTINUES USAGE ONLY while it sh|ts with STANDBY
why ? well because it tries to keep you at the minimum frequency while using N900
ex :
805mhz opens a calculator (this happens with ondemand)
500mhz opens a calculator with the same speed as ondemand (but with conservative)

on standby>
underclock : ondemand module | the best in standby and it's good with continues time but as much as conservative regarding with battery saving

N900 ringing :
overclock-call : just switches minfreq to 600mhz until u pick up the call
then overclock-while-in-call gets activated : switches back to 250mhz as minfreq in order not to waste battery while speaking and no danger

not to mention renicing, vfs,
and pausing some processes(testing only)

hope this makes more clear

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have a Perfect N900

hmm...it was appearantly the 5.8 that i deleted.

Problem has now deteriorated.

It keeps rebooting and on the NOKIA logo screen there was written "Malfunction! Shutdown in 10s" in the green font.

Does this mean i have to reflash the whole thing.
If so is it possible to do this without an usb port.
It fell out a while ago.
Will not take it to nokia centre in the store i bought the phone anymore as last time they send it to nokia because they couldn't fix it.
Nokia themselve refused to fix the usb port "claiming" they don't have the parts:rolleyes:.
And i had to basicly threaten the store i bought it from to give me a new one.

So questions..can this be fixed without usb port.
If not can i fix the usb port my self true soldering.
And are there clear instructions for it.

Starting to get soooooo fed up with this machine althou i love it and think it is irreplacable for me.

Thanks.

karam 2012-02-20 04:51

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have a Perfect N900

Oo that has got nothing to do with batterypatch

i don't think it is possible to reflash without the USB port
you should've installed backupmenu when you had a chance

as for usb port fixing
well it's possible but it has a weak chance of success
and needs metal melting tools with lots of focusing

Hi,
I'm looking at the screenshot of your phone where the CPU activity is almost completely down to zero (during the early hours). I don't get this behaviour with the patch on my phone. Is this achieved by using the patch as-is or did you need to do something else?
Thanks!

ahmadamaj 2012-02-20 16:55

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks / Please Vote For Speed Patch To Get Moved To Extras

Unless you're doing something on your phone, CPU activity should be down to almost 0 when locked and idle.
Anyway, to reply to your question, I have kp49 and swapolube installed among many other things of course.

Actually... This is something I talked of before, but just recently confirmed. The changes don't affect only apps launched from xterminal. They will affect any script that's run, and in some cases could affect a process launched by the script. I tested this by doing a simple script like this:

Code:

#!/bin/sh
exec /usr/bin/osso_calculator

Sure enough, osso_calculator was in your group, since the process ID started life as a script, and it's ID was therefore injected as part of the group. So this doesn't effect just scripts, or just things from xterm. It effects any script, and anything that the script execs (not to be confused with any children the script spawns, they're different and do not appear to inherit the parents cgroup membership).

This would explain some of the odd activity in the groupings, and would explain why some people are seeing large results while others are not, as different tools launch in different ways.
