I think I know your problem. If u are using Kernel Power - this bug is caused by kp.
There were many discussions about it ..

Actually... This is something I talked of before, but just recently confirmed. The changes don't affect only apps launched from xterminal. They will affect any script that's run, and in some cases could affect a process launched by the script. I tested this by doing a simple script like this:

Code:

#!/bin/sh
exec /usr/bin/osso_calculator

Sure enough, osso_calculator was in your group, since the process ID started life as a script, and it's ID was therefore injected as part of the group. So this doesn't effect just scripts, or just things from xterm. It effects any script, and anything that the script execs (not to be confused with any children the script spawns, they're different and do not appear to inherit the parents cgroup membership).

This would explain some of the odd activity in the groupings, and would explain why some people are seeing large results while others are not, as different tools launch in different ways.

hmm well that's a very good point
currently i'm trying to find a way to inject a script inside /usr/share/application/hildon/*.desktop
after Exec
to put every application launched in User cgroup
still to early (need to prepare a backup,restore...etc)

thank you
well nothing much just the last explosion destroyed every window of my house (still nothing much)

@Mohammed Muid

this reboot problem from xterm is not caused by neither of patches
it's by KP (probably fixed in the latest version) pre50
check your self by switching to omap

@getnani

maybe somthing else is causing the vibration problem
speedpatch/batterypatch has nothing to do with it

@ed_boner
it's still bug free version
that's why imm asking for voting to move to extras

@gilesn
it's not only about these setups
many other things may cause extra battery deain
such as many many widgets, battery monitore apps....etc

ok man..just reporting..seems strange though that noone is having reboot-blackscreen issoue and all of the suddent we all have it with no changes made in kp, only an update in sp..but if you say its kp fault..who am i to disagree..btw for me its the only issue..in everything else sp seems perfect.

I had my first crash and reboot in almost 2 years with the latest speedpatch.Phone was unresponsive but after a 2nd reboot all seems to be working ok......something is fishy

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks / Please Vote For Speed Patch To Get Moved To Extras

@ed_boner
because Mohammed muid mentioned that
i bet you haven't try before installing sp

it is bloody confirmed that the reboot problem is caused by KP
why don't u try booting normal kernel (OMAP) and see your self that the reboot problem from xterm is solved

@sophocha
it's known that you have to reboot twice after installing sp

first one will remove everything from /syspart
second one is to place create /dev/cgroup

the first one usually gets laggy N900
but the second and the rest are all smooth

well karam..because i dont know how..dont even know what OMAP is..i am just an industrial designer man..maybe the closer to a final non technical consumer u have in the forum :)..but its kool..i believe you..no problem..so i guess we will wait for kp50 right?

karam 2012-02-22 14:47

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks / Please Vote For Speed Patch To Get Moved To Extras

omap is the default nokia kernel
you can change to it via multiboot
or uninstall KP

and yes waiting for 50 is better

the only consequence of locking kernel at 805 permanently is battery drain?

karam 2012-02-25 12:55

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks / Please Vote For Speed Patch To Get Moved To Extras

there are many reasons for battery drain
and of course locking at 805 is useless and point less unless you know what your doing

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks / Please Vote For Speed Patch To Get Moved To Extras

just want to confirm that im also facing black boot screen problem problem is gone if i uninstall speedpatch. mainly i face this problem when i boot from Nitdroid to Maemo. when i select reboot in nitdroid it restarts device but when i select Maemo in multiboot it just stays at blank black screen untill i switch it off manually and restart it. Not having this issue when speedpatch is uninstalled.

and one more thing that was my first time when i installed speedpatch and really friends it boosts N900's performance. no lags, no stops anything. thanks Karam

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks / Please Vote For Speed Patch To Get Moved To Extras

hmm
well switching from Maemo5 to nitdroid is just like reflashing between 2 kernels

this would be an expected behavior as each switch is just like a new install for speedpatch

@ALL
please i need 2 more votes to move speedpatch to extras

I'm facing that problem too. didn't use to happen with previous versions of speedpatch.

So no solution?

karam 2012-02-26 01:09

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks / Please Vote For Speed Patch To Get Moved To Extras

@ahmadamaj

i haven't used nitdroid before
so my expectation of older versions is:

when switching between maemo5 and nitdroid
you get the xterm error
another reboot would fix it

however this xterm error used to appear in the older versions many times

now instead of that error message
only switching between kernels or flashing would need 2 boots but in an easy fast way

will try to solve it if i got some free time

so i would like to know if their is any conflict with batterypatch

can some one tell me the output of :

Code:

uname -r
it should be:

2.6.28.10-power50
if so then it's all ok because i have pre intergated this to the latest batterypatch

if not then i'll update it to the new output
sorry i can't check my self as i don't have my N900 now

This is strange behaviour. I didn't try removing speedpatch but I have this strange reboot problem since KP48! I hate this bug..

The KP50 changelog says ''fixed Reboot Problem'', but this is an over issue. This disappoints me

not so bad uninstalling speedpatch: in kp49 the sp was noticible specially with qtlockscreen as it was seriously more responsive..with kp50 i see no difference what so ever, now without sp and everithing is fast and smooth and responsive..freeman and pali and the rest of the team really cracked it this time:)..i dont know what speedpatch can bring better for the future, still leaves me great memories of the past..ths karam, keep up the good work!

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900

can someone confirm anything about KP50 reboot problem ?

i want someone (if possible) to do this :

if you have speedpatch installed than :
1- install KP50
2- reboot more that 3 or 4 times to check the reboot problem
3- if solved then KP50 solved it , if not then >>
4- uninstall speedpatch and retest

i can't do those tests right now as i don't have my N900
but i highly doubt that it's a speedpatch problem because some users *who are not using speedpatch* are having that reboot problem

@ed_boner
well got nthn to say

Sorry... WHAT reboot problem? I've been following this thread and am not sure what you're talking about. Is the problem that it reboots spontaneously, or that when you reboot several times in a row something odd happens, or?

If someone actively following this thread isn't sure what you're talking about, I doubt anyone not closely following it will get it either.

could you modify the battery-patch kernel-power dependency so that it also accept the kernel-power-bootimage version for those using u-boot

thanks

A> Why are you discussing this in Baterypatch thread instead of KP50 thread, where someone may read it. You should discuss this in the KP thread. This would be like taking your car to a TV repair shop... no much is going to happen to fix your car.

B> I had this bug in KP49, and just seconds ago rebooted via command line under KP50, and it rebooted cleanly. I rebooted primarily to be sure all the latest new CSSU stuff was in place and happy. That may have been a fluke (as I've had it work under K49 on occasion as well), but so far it's 1 for 1. :)

Are you reading the whole thread?(I'm advising you to previous page/ e.g. post 3140) I only answered ed_boners and yours question.
I didn't write it into kernel-power thread, cause Estele has already pointed at this problem (please read previous page) and I don't like to spam the thread.

The problem isn't caused permenantly (at my n900). It seems to be a curious bug which isn't affecting all n900 user. You can find a good describtion(urls) in the answer to ed_boner by me.

freemangordon 2012-03-21 08:01

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900

Just to make it clear - the "reboot bug" which is fixed in KP50 is as following:

If you have USB cable/charger connected to your n900 and try to reboot, the device does a shutdown and/or enters a mini reboot loop instead of rebooting to maemo. That happens only when USB is connected.

The bug you're discussing here is a different animal, it happens only on a couple of devices and so far there is not much useful info so one could fix it.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900

tks again freeman..althoug karam told us several times tha the reboot issue was kp49 problem and it would be solved in kp50..i can confirm now on my own that is not so.

karam 2012-03-21 19:24

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Speed Patch + Battery Patch + Tweaks --> Everything Needed To Have A Perfect N900

@freemangordon
i believe have mentioned before that the reboot problem(s)
are caused by a change from KPv 40 to v46 or v42

also KP40 was super perfect stable (no reboot problems, fast and smooth as OMAP) don't know if someone have noticed that OMAP is faster than kernel-power v42=<
at the same clock speed which is 600mhz

so if you have some time you may compaire sources (patches) betwean those versions and track down that bug

just removing changes from v42 or v46 which are not in v40
and bulding the kernel then testing would be the clean way to track down another reboot issue causer
just a suggestion though

@pierrem

well batterypatch depends on : kernel-power, kernel-power-settings

if you want to install kernel-power-bootimage then just install it after installing batterypatch there would be no problems

so there is no need to modify the depends

@ed_boner

this reboot problem might be caused by many different things
freemangordon and pali have fixed a one cause of it

i advice you to try booting OMAP kernel
if the reboot problem is gone
then there is something in KP50 conflicting with some app or so
if the reboot problem is still there
that means another app is causing it

and this discussion must continie on KP thread

hi everybody

i am new to maemo5
you are here talking about the bug king reboot problem right ?

my 2 cents

i have installed kernel power 50 with speedpatch which is really goodthe reboot bug is gone but it was in kp-49
the one freemangordon posted before

@ed_bornor

it is not speedpatch who is causing this trouble
only on the first install of it this happens
after the second reboot everything goes well

so happy with you guys :) thank you for keeping the development of our beloved n900

No offense, but it's not about what I want, it's about doing things the right way.

When I moved to u-boot, I removed kernel-power and installed kernel-power-bootimage
to avoid having my NAND flashed with every kernel-power update.

Batterypatch does not depend on kernel-power, it depends either on kernel-power or
kernel-power-bootimage, the difference being how users choose to load this kernel
at boot.

Therefore I ask you to reconsider my request.

pierrem i'm not offense at all :)
but i didn't understand ur request before

so your request is :

changing the depends of batterypatch to : kernel-power or kernel-power-bootimage ? instead of kernel-power only ?

what xterminal tells you when you install batterypatch
does it force you to install kernel-power while you don't want to ? or what ?

i have never used u-boot before
please explain more

Yes of course: that's what you told the package to ask for when it is installed.

Extracted from "apt-cache show batterypatch":
Depends: dbus-scripts, kernel-power, kernel-power-modules, kernel-power-flasher, kernel-power-settings

So currently if one wants to install battery patch one have to install all the above packages.

It should be at least:
Depends: dbus-scripts, kernel-power | kernel-power-bootimage, kernel-power-modules, kernel-power-settings
