This is a new world joining of 2 very big companies that need eachother. They are too big a company and unlike Nokia they do have the resources and development teams. |
Re: Nokia shares dive after sales warning
When you see statements like this......
"Underneath Microsoft's new touch-enabled tablets, we give you the tried and trusted Windows that hundreds of millions of customers rely upon: Office apps, networking, an approachable file system (a subtle dig at the iPad), a mouse and keyboard if desired. Everything." Tablets are one thing as we all know but when they are joined with the combination of Windows and a Mobile Telephone and i think it will be along the lines of Windows 8 bringing a new OS alltogether and the very reason they have dropped Maemo and MeeGo. Warren Buffet: Buy when everyone seem to be selling. Nokia is a good company. WIN 7 mobile looks like a good OS with great potential. Combine that with the nokias hardware and software knowhow(remember Nokia has made the N900, which is path breaking OS). Microsoft will bring in features that are available with competition. The WIN 7 Interface is cool and very refreshing. I predict OS will be a hit after Mango update and the later updates and Nokia will climb back.

I very much doubt this will be a WP7 release for Nokia, it will be something else. |

anyway it wont be required of nokia to give vast inputs in the software part of it. it will have to make good phones which nobody has doubts.

Re: Nokia shares dive after sales warning
nokia phones is still the best for me and it's painful seeing them being so lost after years of being the no. 1 manufacturer. the company is still living in the old days that it doesn't know what to do now in the present...
the confusing decisions / plans of nokia by pursuing something then going to be late then being cancelled then not really then slowly killing the favorite child is not helping them... with the competition today and of all os available, choosing "windows mobile" is a very bad move thanks to it's bad reputation. the os itself is being hunted by its past to the point that's it's having a hard time redeeming itself now. kinda makes sense that the no. 1 manufacturer is choosing the no. 1 mobile os in the early years and both having issues of keeping up in the game now... the competition keeps on releasing products as early as every two months while nokia still releases products 6-8 months after announcement. this way, they'll never gonna catch up in the race. with that large gap from announcement and release, the product feels old... |
Re: Nokia shares dive after sales warning
You're a bunch of whining old women. I still have my N900, why? there are two reasons.
1 there is nothing out there that looks tempting 2 It hasn't broken And a third: I got a Wave (Bada) to keep me occupied. The first WP/Nokia with hw keyboard I sure as hell will get. Why? there are two reasons. 1 there will be nothing out there that looks even remotely as tempting. 2. It will not break. And by then Bada 2 will be out to keep me occupied. To sum it up: Bada rox, but WP/Nokia rox more :D Seriously, if you believe that Nokia/WP will fail you simply have no idea. All operators will love a third major contender. And Nokia/WP will be loved by the people. |

This community does not seem to support Microsoft or its products it appears but the rest of the world does thats for sure so anything you read on here will be not the case i feel. Microsoft are just way too big and a move like this will only bring success as a lot of thought has gone on behind the scenes even before an attempted merger took place !. I think we are all in for a shock somehow. |

Think about n-gage, Wi-Fi, voIP, dual SIM and particularly about who it was that kicked Nokia out of the US market some years ago (yes, the carriers). Quote:

Seriously, once the bad news were announced in February, I've immediately notified my family, friends, coworkers that buying Nokia phones is not a wise decission. Even If they fire a CEO (which will not happen for some time, since he had the confidence of shareholders for his intentions), that will not make me recommend nokia phones for some time. It is about credibility and reputation, and they have lost both in a single day. As it turns, it takes a lot more than one day to rebuild them. |

In the mobile world Apple may well be bigger than MS but i think the gap will close if MS have anything to do with it, Nokia can still be classed as the biggest mobile hardware producer this world has so you team that with the biggest software company this world has and something has to happen, wow you do not like MS do you :p but i agree with your points mostly. |

Look at the situation Nokia were in from say 97 on and it was a downward turn so they were in deep water whatever they did due to bad software design mostly i might add, wait and see what becomes of the merger as i think we will all get a pleasent shock  i hope :D . |

Both Nokia and MS know exactly what to do. They must create a platform that is easy to use, yet have features that only geeks wants. It must be secure, yet be hacker friendly enough for the "XDA-devs" around the globe. It must be smooth and nice, yet rough enough so that "improvements" can be done. It will be great. |
Re: Nokia shares dive after sales warning
If Nokia fails with WP and M$ won't buy them, they will release android devices. No doubt about this.

I don't understand a lot about the market so I'll ask a simple yes or no question. Should I buy Nokia stock right now? (I know there are all kinds of things involved but I figured I'd ask anyway)

Better bet on Nokia bankcruptcy or even further falling stocks... but on the other hand, I don't understand anything either about markets, can't even remember the name for those brainf***** constructions where you bet on falling stocks and the like... so better don't believe what I say. |

Re: Nokia shares dive after sales warning
Yeah whatever, rating companies have always been sensible to this kinds of stuff. But let's all remember how high ENRON's rating was in 2001 and still it was one of the biggest frauds of all time. And how Detroit's Big 3 ratings were still high when they went into bankruptcy when the economic crisis began.
So, what I'm trying to say is that, Nokia, a company which is undoubtedly in some kind of trouble at the moment, is not is THAT much trouble how some people would like it to be. They're having problems, it's normal in in the business world to have not-that-great periods. Apple has had them in the 90's. They're successful now. What's to happen 5 years from now? Let's not dramatize things. |
Re: Nokia shares dive after sales warning
Here is the solution!
RIM is hurting, stock price falling, no new exciting products. Shareholders and Analysts call for a new CEO! http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Why-Re....html?x=0&.v=1 How about giving Elop to RIM? Elop is a well experienced manager, managed the world largest cell phone maker and has proven to make gutsy decisions. Exactly the man RIM needs now! I think Elop's switch would be really good for the share price. I just don't know for which, NOK, RIMM, MSFT, AAPL or GOOG? |

Why they have been able to stay afloat and grow this long is the real mystery, not that they are finally going down to a size that fits the niche market they are serving. |

If anything, this only proves that Elop is right, a major overhaul is needed, a new start with a portfolio made for the future. |
