N900 slider.

Hi There,

I switch my phones screen to 'lock'. Unfortunately it tends to slide open in my pocket and the screen becomes live. You can imagine the problems that causes! Is there a way to stop it automatically unlocking the screen when sliding over please?

Many thanks John.

Hi John and welcome onboard!

Installing community SSU would allow you to at least lock the desktop customization. Biggest annoyance for me was that all the icons an widgets were all over the place when the phone was accidentally unlocked while in pocket. I would recommend to at least get familiar the CSSU project before installing though. I'd provide a link but am in a hurry!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

For the keyboard to open and unlock the screen it has to be fully opened, which never happens for me. Also if the phone is locked, then opened and then shut it will re-lock.
What normaly happens to me is I forget to lock it and that is where the problems happen. Having had the phone for 18 months, I am now good at locking it.

I don't have CSSU as Modest (email) has a lot of problems and they have re-introduced old, once fixed bugs back in which I fine annoying.

You could write a little script using a dbus-monitor command to catch the keyboard opening and then lock the device again, although I think I would find that far more annoying.

Have a lock code which is short n simple, set your phone to automatically request the lock code when unlocking ur fone, this way your pocket will only be entering random numbers into the lock code screen instead of opening apps :)

and later it might accidentally press some area beyond the numpad and asking you whether you want to switch off the device :p
(though in my case, it only happened once when it accidentally press the 'Yes' button afterwards :D)

Re: N900 slider.

Maybe a way that would be best, if it there was a way to FORCE the "slide2unlock" screen when you slide the device up and/or use the lock slider?

Many thanks to all your replies. In short, the N900 doesn't have a facility to stop the screen switching on when sliding open. Godofwar424, I think I will try your suggestion re setting a lock code. Thanks once again everyone. Cheers, John from Chigwell in sunny Essex UK.

Ill look into forcing the slide 2 lock screen to stay on whenever you slide up the device :)

No promises tho :P
