Latest big name departure from Nokia: Rich Green, CTO

Chief technology officer Richie Green has left Nokia. According to Helsingin Sanomat disagreement about Nokia's startegy, especially concerning Meego, was the reason he left.

Too bad that google translation gives a lot of gibberish.

Did Green resign for personal reasons (usually code for health problems or problems in the family), or because he believed in Meego which was dumped by Elop?

Because of MeeGo.

nokia seems fked up,only south asian market is gonna hold 'em up..in west they gonna collapse ..it is a judgement ,not a prediction .meego could have blown the shyty symbian and could lead nokia from bottom to top.Alas! Elop is gonna need something big to prove his rational acts .

I doubt about that. With android kicking I don't think south asian market is gonna help alot. I'm from south asia also and before android almost 99% of the population of our country uses nokia phones. But now I can see samsung and sony surging fast.

Rich Green, Nokia CTO, leaving Nokia

For "personal reasons", according to engadget, sourced from a couple of Finnish publications. Yet more disruption for Maemo/MeeGo.

Can't blame him really - Nokia as it is today is now a very different technology mix from the Nokia he joined last year.

Pound to a penny he'll be replaced by a Microsoft executive.

So sad to see the state of Nokia...

Ari Jaaksi, Ansi Vanjoki, Rich Green are all gone. Meego is almost gone. Symbian is gone.
What we are left is WP7, Microsoft & Stephen Elop. Who would have imagined this 1 year ago when Nokia announced that Meego would be thier top end.

Very very sad.

Re: Rich Green, Nokia CTO, leaving Nokia

"HELSINKI -(Dow Jones)- Finland-based telecom equipment maker Nokia Oyj (NOK) Thursday said Henry Tirri, head of Nokia Research Center, will become acting Chief Technology Officer replacing Richard Green.

"Rich Green is taking a medical leave for absence. During this time Henry Tirri, head of Nokia Research Center, will be the acting CTO,"
Nokia spokesman Tomi Kuuppelomaki said in an email.
The comment was in response to a report from Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat that Green had taken time off, and would most likely not return to Nokia due to differences of opinion over the company's strategy. Nokia would not comment further on the report

Wow... I haven't seen you around for AGES! Yeah, I miss the days of optimism when Nokia was actually making the devices we wanted. But, like the demotivational poster in my last post to this thread illustrates, Nokia just wasn't interested in listening to customers, much less their own engineers. The company was SO close to practically OWNING the tablet market if they simply upsized their devices and didn't try to turn it into a phone. They even CALLED them tablets! They pissed all over their own brand by making sure people were miserable when they tried to contact them and provided the worst support. Missed opportunities and stupid decisions made by arrogant executive dolts that didn't care about their customers' experiences with their brand. I wish I didn't have to say this, but at this point I think I can finally say, 'Good riddance to Nokia' if Microsoft is the new face of the company. (They took the CEO spot with one of their own--that should have been a clue. I practically knew it was.)

Official Nokia PR line is personal reasons. Two "inside sources" that Helsingin Sanomat contacted say that it was the Elop strategy and especially Meego.

The next CTO has to be expert on how to do massive scale Windows installations reliably. ;)

Re: Latest big name departure from Nokia.

Ah right "medical leave". The talk about turmoil within the company over MeeGo makes this interesting timing for this particular person to leave, nonetheless, and makes for plausible debate as to the real underlying reasons for his departure. Just the same, thanks for the "official line".

Original corporate announcement:
"Our CTO just gave our CEO a middle finger, pissed on his Windows phone, and then slammed the door hard on the way out".

Corporate announcement after seeking advises from corporate attorney:
"Our CTO felt sick and left for medical attention"

I doubt they would officially say its for medical reasons if it weren't.
They'd say personal reasons, so this time I believe in the official story.

Essentially they're saying he's sick. I don't trust nokia's pr, but making this up would be too tasteless even for them.

Have you ever watched uncontrolled fire?

Warning: this is not a troll!

I remember watching burning depot, and the drunk old guy coming out in front of us, and telling us:
"It is nothing it's just few branches, and bit of fuel" :D

I liked his remark, since the fire was 7-8 high.
I still remember the heat sensation which was almost unbearable at that moment.

Nokia - no panic - everything will be fine - if you work now fast (time to market) and innovative :)

the opportunity is clearly for end of 2011 / start 2012 -
Nokia as the first provider for windows 8 (tablet and smartphone) with the new LTE connection, HTML 5 Apps, top navigation products and a global aggressive pricing

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=26084&page=4
Where is Nokia - no announcement no product - still in hibernation
Maemo Freaks - forgot Maemo (even if it is difficult) - the question and decision is Android or Windows 8 for the future

Straight from Aperture Labs:
"The lab boys told me that if you cut yourself, and you noticed that your blood is pure gasoline, you'd best not cut yourself again, because unlike blood, gasoline does not clot."

I trust Aperture. They wouldn't lie about big things.

But it burns quite nicely, unlike blood, if you set your platform on fire.

bah arguing over sematics

the Meego faction lost - so its a foregone conclusion its champions will kneel over and go

so the N950 better be perfect on release - cause if this is not a sign that there will be ZERO support for N950 once its released, I do not know what is.
