Thanks... goodbye.
After watching Stskeeps say his goodbyes... I thought it was time for me to say my goodbye.
Do I expect a proper farewell? No. But if anything, I'm doing something I anticipated I never expected to do... say that I'm leaving a forum. Thanks for the 770, N810, all of the Maemo information, the N900. And all of the patience it required to handle a polarizing person like myself. Thanks for the information, the lessons... and ultimately the friendships, debates and understanding that on some days, I was going to take the devil's advocate stance just to see where you were coming from. Good news... I've been a Maemo fan since day one. It provided me with the equal amounts of wow + geekgasm that I needed. And I'll invariably be a Maemo fan until it truly dies. Thanks to this community for perhaps being one of the absolute best... ever. |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Aww, maan.
|
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
so which platform / device are you moving to?
|
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Am I the only one getting this feeling like you're in a party and the people that you've been chatting with are all quietly disappearing somewhere, and you realize this only after the next day when all those people are talking about how awesome time they were having in the party, the party to which you didn't get the invite?
ok, so it's just me then... sad to see you leave mate, farewell. your views, insights and opinions will be missed. |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
I'll miss you, and remember your cool avatar. ;)
BTW, why anyone needs to announce here of departure anyway? It doesn't seem to me it's a company or anything. |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
It's a really bad sensation, yes. The party is over and friends get flocking away, and you know you won't hear them any more.
Gerbick, bye, I hope it's going as good as can be for you. Guess we'll be able to stay here 'till Reggie gets fed up too. Btw I am writing this from an android tablet, and this might be another sign of impending doom :/ |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
yes this happens when people don't have any reason to stay on the forum, Nokia f****d up everthin' so many are now moving to another phones, so simple is that. How hard is it for nokia to release a successor, a new phone which would replace our beloved n900..?
|
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Gerbick, best of luck with it all mate. your one of the few people who i make sure i read the posts of. your views are usually well articulated and make us think about what we otherwise would take as facts.
I find this forum a place i can escape to after a rough day at work/home. so im hoping your departure isnt the end of greatness here. all us new fans of maemo need somewhere to be and this place just happens to be it. |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Well, I don't remember that you even have an N900. You are leaving at the absolute flourishing of the device -- I doubt that you particularly realize that. I think of you as one of the people who is more interested in being a good debater than in one who is seeking the truth, which is not my favorite sort. But I'm sure you will have fun whatever you do; enjoy it.
I think that announcing one's departure is wrongly conceived. To announce such a thing is to try to turn the world into an either/or world, which it isn't. You could start dropping in every five months, or whatever. Why try to imprison your future self? Let who you become make the decisions. No, the person who announces his departure is pretending to be very meticulous and logical -- I decide THIS. But the world is not such a hard and fast place. People shouldn't try to pretend otherwise. |

youre leaving why?

The other two... one microUSB came out and the other got returned. Since then, I've gone from Samsung Captivate to Motorola Atrix to (dare I say this publicly) testing the HTC HD7S (for now) with the Atrix being my main. So yeah... had a N900. Had my hands on 3 of them. Also had two N810's. And I had a 770. And decided to leave mainly because I just don't have the time to spend on a platform I do not support nor can support my favorite tools any longer. Will that change? Could be... and if so, it'll be this forum that leads the way. |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
WTF...I thought you were gone...

Glad to see you back Gerbick aka "The Balance" ;)

Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Babylon 5, anyone?
I'm definetly getting that "Last one out, shuts out the lights" feeling from when they were about to shut down the fusion reactor, on one the last episodes... |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Thanks for the refreshments, Gerbick! Say hello to the little horned man if you bump into him ;)
|
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
So, what should we change the thread title to?
|
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Definitely one of the last two.
|
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
I'd propose the subject "INSERT TITLE HERE, A PLACEHOLDER"....
Cause if the N9 doesn't fly, there'll be a whole bunch of 'us' (the cliche, according to a spaniard called abill) that will eventually leave... |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Obviously we need to change Gerbick's citizenship status here if he's going to go in and out like a frantic cat.
I say his Maemo papers are revoked and he's stuck with a tourist visa. |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Wow... a tourist visa? I'll probably be gone before it expires.
And tweeting to death about how I didn't get a N950... |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Mr Gerbick needs to change his avatar to:
http://www.knewton.com/blog/wp-conte...no-228x300.jpg "Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in. " |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Make him the gypsy geek, paper problem solved and no one will expect him not to be the devils advocate.

First the aliens (Nokia) did sex experiments (770, n800, n810, n900) on him. After they released him he became an alcoholic chicken little nutcase. Then ten years later (ten days) the aliens unleashed their world domination technology (n9), and he came back and basically nuked 'em. |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Wallace Stevens says you don't actually have to say goodby.
"That would be waving and that would be crying, Crying and shouting and meaning farewell, Farewell in the eyes and farewell at the centre, Just to stand still without moving a hand." |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
Hellos and goodbyes are nice.
They're signs of courtesy. That's why they're so out of place in the internets. |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
@gerbick,
IF and when you leave can i have all your thanks? :D:D Good luck in whatever you do next if you do go. |
Re: Thanks... goodbye.
I don't know exactly what I am "doing" here on this site, but it is good info about Maemo/MeeGo and Nokia. AAS is 1 billion times more sober and reflected, and dear i say - intelligent and savvy about Nokia, but.
What I want to say is that technologies come and go, some are cool, some are successful, very few are both. Nokia is a technology company that got a bit lost and confused when suddenly smartphones became mainstream. But Nokia got the coolest technology, nothing else comes close (well, Bada and the Wave is close). The N9 is one of the coolest devices ever, and more will come, there definitely is a niche out there that Nokia wants to exploit, even though Maemo (as we know it) is coming to an end. |

I can certainly see where you're coming from but for sure I would rather say my goodbyes to people I know that I would or hear from again for a long time, like some of the missing regulars here ;(. ps: btw reports of my passing is greatly exaggerated !. |
