To me other features are much more important, and I'd expect this to hold true with the majority of users seeking to buy a new smartphone. I might be mistaken of course, and I'm not saying that it doesn't matter; it's just not that huge of a deal IMHO as these endless bt4 vs. bt2.1 discussions are making it seem. |

But there was never any community support, scarcely new features backported from later symbian releases (by the community, nokia continued support long enough) and no custom roms ever released. Compare this with the N900. CSSU, Nitdroid, MeeGo CE, Kubuntu mobile, debian, shr, backtrack and the list goes on... The community supprort is tied not to the total number of sales, but to the actual number of developers that buy it, (if it's a geek device the proportion of devs - power users that have something to contribute is way bigger so actual sales can be less). Anyway I wouldn't want to have the only N900 in the world, but I wouldn't be more content if everybody had one either. |

Perhaps the 100,000 number is real..........letting everyone interested in a phantom phone for very few to pave way for the main show: NOKIA windows phone

Re: N9 [Shipping]: It's finally here [for some]!
about bt4 cant qoute cause webkit
textbox bug. but I still dont beleive n9 has bt4 hw. to ge bt4 support the chip needs to support dualmode cause 4.0 is not backward compatible. personally i dont give a **** what a local nokia salesperson may had said. i want facts from an engineer who can confirm there is another chip besides wl1273. the only thing we are sure about atm is that driver atm i using wl1273 and nokias specs today says 2.1 everything else is still hopes and/or rumors. some engineer did actually say there where flashsupport but as we know that ended to be wrong atleast for the released devices. it could be similar with bt4... remember that nokia.is in bed with microsoft now.... |
Re: N9 [Shipping]: It's finally here [for some]!
Just got back from Stratford Westfields, London. Usually I'd be all excited and giddy like a school girl when I see phone stores but not anymore. The largest mall in Europe has zero Nokia presence. A little sad but it is what Nokia made it.

http://harmattan-dev.nokia.com/unsta...es_v1_0_en.txt look at the default desktop view in portrait the extra 16px
The default desktop view is now portrait. To start the desktop in landscape "meego-sb-session start landscape" command has to be used. The recommended command line to start Xephyr is: "Xephyr :2 -host-cursor -screen 480x854x16 -dpi 96 -ac -extension Composite &" |

Interesting answers to Konttori's latest blog post. Improved wifi reception in PR1.1, folders support to home screen coming in PR1.2....

An even funnier moment was last year when I wanted a second N900 and I went to vodafone to ask if they'd got one. The salesperson took that Nokia's-have-two-numbers-you-idiot face when I took the N900 out of my pocket. He clearly had never seen one, and he was a bit curious but he didn't dare to ask to have a look it. I walked out smiling :) |

This is something Apple does very well, a coordinated global release within days of an announcement showing good innovations, with the start of sale date announced during the announcement. If on 21 June Nokia had announced that sales start on 28 June worldwide, and listed the retail shops that would have stock on their web site, I am sure you would have seen people line up. And if Feb 11 had announced that Symbian was being phased out in favour of Meego, with Ovi/Nokia Store only accepting apps in Qt that build on Meego, I think they could have built an ecosystem bigger than WP7, especially if they had followed N9 up with larger tablet within a few months. (In South Africa, the most innovative bank in terms of support for new technologies has been launching banking apps for various platforms over the last few months, starting with iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and now Nokia (I guess Symbian) - so far no WP7 ...) In the end, IMHO, it's not the 'ecosystem' that was the problem, there were many more factors at play in Nokia not being that successful recently. And, if they aren't addressing the other factors, I doubt the 'ecosystem' 'advantages' of WP7 will allow them to recover market share. |
Re: N9 [Shipping]: It's finally here [for some]!
Maybe with the troubles of the past their WP launch will be smoother.
Then again, Im quite sure that when I change from Maemo6 I will probably go for WP, and if I go for WP why wouldnt I go with Nokias phones if they are up to par HW-wise . I guess time will tell. Im hoping for some carl zeiss action, etc. But that has little to do with the N9. So to on-topic myself: they need to look at my bug reports and fix both of them asap. Also: cant wait for the update, seems like its going to be a lot of "never mind the man behind the curtain" stuff, which is great! |
