Friends,
It seems NFC is not a hot topic for most people here, But many already visited my website. It was a bit unprofessional in the beginning but I keep changing things to make it better. This link is more a buying/warning guide, not some sales funnel. (interesting for people like Delmar, I think)
http://www.nfc-phones.org/nfc-phones-buying-guide/ modified yesterday.
I would be very happy with some feedback about NFC from N9 users! Nokias website says; NO NFC tag enabled on the N9, only sharing and pairing.
Practical experience are very welcome.

For those among us who do not use Facebook, could you share a screen capture or at least tell us what this secretive link is all about?... Thanks.

I don't use Facebook (and don't have an account), but I can access that link. It's showcase of innovative mobile phones by Nokia through years. And for 2011, there's only silhouette. Yes, you read that right - no N9!

Edit: added screenshot

Oh, my bad: It was the proxy at work blocking FB. Thanks for the screenshot though!

Well, I think this makes sense from a marketing point of view that they want to build some expectation around their platform of choice, no?...

I mean, we can continue ranting about the downplaying of our beloved platform, but the choice is made now, and they have to be coherent with this choice if they want to be successful...

Will I be booed if I write that the N9 does not need such gimmicks to be popular? Whatever, I take the risk! :D

ROTFL just readed on a swedish http://mobil.se that WPhone will continue to only support Qualcom CPU.

Now Elop, wasn't one of the reason to abandon Meego was cause problem to port Meego/Maemo(or Linux) to other platforms than TI Cortex?

LOL!

So that means I need to get you riled up about something.

I bet your Nokia N9 smells like Elop's last breakfast and Qualcomm chips are the best chipsets ever.

Expansys Greece has now put a price on the N9 (669 motherfrakking euros) but they are still in the preorder phase with no clue about availability. It's like Nokia is playing hide the sausage (and take that as you will) with the few masochists refusing to be dazzled away by the 4s or the new nexus.

So they dropped the by far most selling N9? or is that exactly why they dropped it, because it's so hard to get.

Verkkokauppa.com in here is getting N9 shippings every other day, but because of such a large demand there's 2-4 weeks waiting time to get N9 64GB.

I'm really surprised people are demanding the 64GB version so much. Isn't the 16GB iPhone the most sold one? It's not hard to find 16GB version N9's to buy in Finland, but in a same time people are clearly locked to only get the 64GB version.
I'm a phone nerd that fills double the 9.5GB space by music alone so 64GB makes sense to me, but i have been in a impression that most people don't really need more than that 9.5GB on their phones.

if i recall correctly i think the processor could multi-task. i think it was sinclair Ql that linus torvalds started his low level programming on, could be wrong as it's been a long time since i read the book on the birth of linux and opensource, should read this book if you get a chance.

i think some of the emulators are being ported to the n9, i'm lookin forward to the c64 one. brings back memories.

And the long awaited engadget review that I was thinking wouldn't actually happen:

http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/22/nokia-n9-review/

Its concerning just how positive this review is. The only 2 gripes they have are that it has been killed off already and that its using mid-range hardware (which they only barely gripe about because it handles 20+ apps open with no issues and only stutters once in a while when opening some apps when you have a lot open).

Aaaand again it goes.. "Weak ecosystem!", "Dead platform!" I really don't get these messages. Many people don't even use 3rd party apps, so how is that an argument for those people? We (developers) can make (some) apps we are missing, right? So it isn't a big deal for us... I think it's valid point only for S. Elop -- he always talks about "shifting from battle of devices to war of ecosystems", but he has his wonderful ecosystem comming in weeks, so he does not bother either.

Anyway, who needs an ecosystem? What we need is community. And we are the community!

Great review. Seems to say the same thing each other does though- Nokia killed off what was a seriously promising OS. Such a shame really.

Here's to hoping that Nokia pulls their collective head out of their rear and decides to continue development and maybe even push another phone out. Thinking WP7 will save them seems a pie in the sky hope.

Many people might not care, but at the least as many does so it's more than valid thing to point out on a objective N9 review.
Engadget did a good with N9 and it shows they have actually used the device as they mention thing like "swipe to close the app" that's hidden in to settings. There where so many things not mentioned on N900 review by Engadget that any user using it for more than 3 days would have known..... or with N8 not knowing it had 2 step camera key...lol.

1) Since it's not much price difference,it's that logical people will go for the 64GB. My perception is 64GB is limited edition, in future, maybe only left 16GB, that's how I would sell it anyway. With the 64GB around, the 16GB wouldnt be moving much.

2) Those who buy N9 is a different target market from those who bought the 16GB Iphone. ;);)

Is it? If anything N9 looks like most of all iPhone competitor, even more than Android. Though i guess the average buyer for N9 might be different after it was announced dead.
Seeing more of people that don't need/want tens of different apps.

Yes, that's what I meant :D It's Maemo/Meego fans & Nokia fans more interested. To a lesser extent Iphone 4 fans who are not getting the Iphone 4S, in my country anyway.
A few Android fans who want to try a different OS as their 2nd phone

Samsung Nexus, Pentile confirmed....
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/21/t...us-not-a-plus/
Obviously a much better pixel density than SGSII.
But at a sub-pixel level it's back to where the Nexus S last year was.*
Maybe I waits for Sammy to bring SAMOLED+ 720p in Q2 12', yum :)

*not entirely accurate.
