Worldwidevoltage.com is selling the 16GB N9 for $629. Not many red flags that I can see. Anyone familiar with them or anyone in Illinois want to check them out?

what is teh big hollabaloo about pentile anyway? who cares as long as teh screen looks great. We should worry more about black and white levels, vivdness of colour, and viewing angles.

EVERYONE likes the n9. What a shame

Sure, if it doesn't concern you that their price is a full $120 lower than Expansys US...

In Expansys US top20 selling phones, N9 places 2nd, 3rd and 4th. :D

Don't know how many phones they are selling...

Re: N9 [Shipping]: It's finally here [for some]!

as posted earlier "we are the community" says it all . we kept and are keeping the n900 going 2 years down the line based almost entirely on community apps/support . with the exception of webos games (though preenv is community made) everything is free and made by members here . im sure the same will be for n9 too . we only need some pr updates along the way like happened with n900 .
myslf i use 16gb card with my n900 so would not even consider the 16gb n9, i need about 16gb just for tunes let alone films,games etc. its no suprise the 64gb is hard to get as nokia know it will be more popular considering only a small price difference.

just gotta get one now which unfortunately for me in the uk with limited resources is pretty much never gonna happen. still i keep positive cos you never know !

Re: N9 [Shipping]: It's finally here [for some]!

I love my N900 although still a bit ticked off with Nokia for abandoning This phone so early on. The promise of basic MMS by tech support was as joke that never had a punchline. Of course we are lucky the have FMMS and all the other cool apps in the repositories.
Cool or not just cannot see buying another phone the N9 that will have another soon to be defunct OS that they won't support. Nokia moving over to windows really? lame. Microsoft had such an early jump on a decent mobile OS as I loved My HTC Excalibur yet after the wm6 upgrade it all feel silent for yrs. Nokia seems like they are all over the place with their devedlopment and a cool phone with a robust OS that would last more than a model cycle would be cool.

Obviously a much better pixel density than SGSII.
But at a sub-pixel level it's back to where the Nexus S last year was.*
Maybe I waits for Sammy to bring SAMOLED+ 720p in Q2 12', yum :)

now does it run maemo harmattan?

Jalyst, it's not that simple. Depends on several things. The Theory is one thing, in practice another.
There are NFC stickers with bluetooth, other NFC stickers without bluetooth. Stickers without BT don't communicate directly with the Phone, but can do payments (rabobank/Netherlands). Yet the SIM-card only hosts the secure element. Phone to SIM communication not via bluetooth. A Korean firm claims it made an "all in one NFC SIM-card", with whole NFC hardware onboard. (to make an NFC Phone of any Phone) Soon we see if its thru.
Google announced; Google Wallet doesn't work with NFC stickers !! And for N9 ? Depends on Nokia, depends on apps, depends on local virtual wallet systems, depends on.....
Looking at what Nokia said, yes, N9 can support payments next year. http://www.nfc-phones.org/secure-pay...are-solutions/ Everyday i'm busy many hours updating and adding info. Still a long to do list...

Did you know ?? Since 2009 there is already an NFC adaptor available for the iPhone. It's not from Apple. Same principle as an NFC case and stickers.

Where did Nokia say the N9 can support payments next year?
I don't see that on your web site... :confused:

Interesting, I certainly hope this "all in one NFC SIM-card" comes to pass very soon.
Seems like it might be our best chance for ubiquitous secure payments for the N9.

There does seem to be some weirdness, I've been following this thread closely...
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=78488
I think it's simply pentile symptoms, & the users there were expecting something different.

Well, it's finally available in the US from some online retailers, so now I have to actually face the horrible question: buy another n900 or an n8, or shell out for the n9? So difficult.

Do they have the 64GB, perchance? I didn't find the site very easy to navigate (perhaps it relies on scripts too much?), but I like the way they present the devices.

Edit: found the search, and no, they don't.

Ever ordered from sgbest.com? The most random of random places have the Nokia N9.

And I don't know if I can trust that.

Besides, rather make sure other folks don't get screwed by these random places with a N9 "in stock"

Most stupid question ever ;) Decide between N8 or N9 should be obviours if you had already N900. N8 is downgrade from N900 except it has better camera. But way worse crap broken OS. (Ohh yeah it may have better battery but the UI sucks hell and everything is closed crap OS)

N9 is a upgrade except from N900 except HWKBD but personally have now problem with vkb anymore cause its BEST vkb so far of those phones I had tested...

Who the hell are they? I've never heard of them. Is this the best the n9 will get? Shady, relative unknowns that I can't know whether to trust with an expensive purchase? This reeks as badly as Nokia's world-class support.

My e-mail to Nokia;
secure NFC = secure payment ? And Nokias 6 handsets with NFC chip have a secure element or SWP ?
Nokia;
Secure NFC in this context means secure payment. Nokia is committed to supporting the specification, implementation and introduction of NFC phones with the SIM-based (Single Wire Protocol) secure element.
But . . I sent an e-mail to Nokia today, asking;

The N9 can support some secure element ?

I think/hope monday-evening we have the answer here on Maemo.org. First here for you, you deserve it :D , and then I will give this answer a nice place on my website. http://www.nfc-phones.org/nokia-n9-n9-00-lankku/

I own and use both the N900 and N8 daily and I wouldn't call the N8 a downgrade. A side step, maybe. Admit it, you just have nothing but hate for it (and Symbian) that you refuse to see some of its benefits even if it hit you in the face and still **** all over its parade. But hey, you have your opinion and so do I and so does the poster you were replying to.

BwackNinja 2011-10-23 22:44

Re: N9 [Shipping]: It's finally here [for some]!

Seeing good (and consistent) reviews of the N9 is concerning. The slashgear one ends with:

"We can’t blame Nokia for the direction the company has chosen – there’s more to it than mere software; Windows Phone gives them a platform, a developer ecosystem, and the might of Microsoft among other things – but we can be more than wistful that the N9 and MeeGo came that little bit too late to have their true worth recognized."

That seems like a roundabout way of saying "Nokia wouldn't be able to provide a proper ecosystem for the N9" or "a device like the N9 is more than Nokia is capable of fully supporting alone." Which essentially boils down to "its not that this phone isn't good enough for Nokia, its that Nokia isn't good enough for this phone, and the WP7 decision makes sense because of this revelation."

What's worse is that may not be too far from the truth. Apparently even Steve Jobs didn't think Apple would be able to handle apps, and look at them now.

simple way is just to check out customer reviews and look for forums with complaints about them. ratings sites like these can help when deciding if to purchase from a particular reseller. suggesting using Web Of Trust aswell.

Edit+typos:
i've heard of these also but never used them. not many places that take laser cards outside of ireland.

well they are the first people who leaked the whole video of E7 thinking it was a N9 back long time ago. They were the only one with the actual working unit until the E7 was remotely wiped. and they have been selling phones for a while.

Re: N9 [Shipping]: It's finally here [for some]!

Vitriol aside, any thoughts on choosing between the two or what you prefer in each? I love the n900, it's the best phone I've ever used, and would definitely be happy with another one (and that luscious hardware keyboard, mmm). That said, I'd also love to learn about Symbian development and certainly wouldn't mind the camera on the n8. Having watched some 'Belle beta' videos, I'm not totally blown away by it from a user standpoint, but, compared to the dumbphone I'm using, anything's a vast improvement.

Googling around for people comparing the n8 to anything provides very few useful results, since it takes an n900 owner to know what the benchmark really is! :P
