I posted this in the other thread, thought I would do it here as it seems more apropos. 64GB N9 from Negri (StarHub).

Maybe you'll like to google for the difference between plastic and polycarbonate.

Dear Samgan, thanks for pointing that out. I am aware it is PC.

I am not saying the color is painted on but painting on PC is my daily business (DVD manufacturing)

Putting the color inside the PC gives it that cheap plastic look in my opinion.
Nokia is sure happy to save an expensive coating procedure. By dropping industrial design - polycarbonate to the marketing boys.

Remember the alu N8? At closer look: some Alu in the middle, coated plastic at the ends (yes I know, antennas, but the marketing....)
Sorry if the expression sounde popular.

PC is a commodity that sells (last time I checked) at around 0,75 usd/kg for the clear pellets.

In the end it is really plastic, so why does it cost so much, has always been my question.

Nokia has always been overpriced to us yankees for the N-series. It's a Nokia premium you're paying.

If you are from US...did they charge extra to ship to the US and did they automatic convert the prices?

thanks for answering
voltage is 240 but adapter wont matter right, since N9 charger will most likely handle both 120 and 240
all what I need is a universal adapter

I think a few pages back someone alluded to why production would probably cost more than the 710/800.

Actually there's no "work" at the moment, as we're still waiting on Nokia to help the community :(
Man I like the look of the white one, I'm tempted to wait, god knows I've waited for yrs anyway.

The included silicone case is quite good as well. I've been passing my phone around and most people don't know that there is a case on it.

-indeed I was surprised after removing the ugly silicon that a likewise ugly layer showed: is that it?

-a beautiful design does not demand to be hidden in an ugly silicon protector does it?

-my original Nokia leather carying case CP-553 is not compatible with the silicon cover. This is a silent hint that Nokia allows us to use it without the silicon cover and likes us to show of the beauty of naked polycarbonate and chrome.

-polycarbonate: fine, black polycarbonate better, coated black polycarbonate: worthy of a 700 Euro phone.

-the undampened noise when your fingernails touch the non coated PC sounds very cheap

-the touch does not feel luxury in my perception, and worse slippery

-Nokia phones need to be able to hit the floor hard in any direction

-no doubt the polycarbonate can hit the floor hard without deformation

-the screen however can't , read MNNM's post http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=79192&page=2

On top of that the screen is curved so the screen will easily touch the ground. It will also touch the table when you put it down.

No problem a it is gorillaTM glass, right?

I have some reports to make about the screen quality.
But since the green under angle color cast does not seem to occur for anybody, only a few, I will not disturb any ones honeymoon days and go to the appropriate thread.

I wish everybody the pleasure of enjoying his / her candybar Amoled device but I don't think I am the only one that is a little bit disappointed that there is no alternative hardware version for people who Maemo on 1GB or RAM.

Hey guys,
I saw Cancom UK back in the thread a little while back but when I search on the thread it is not there now. Is it a scam?

http://www.google.com/search?gcx=w&s...cancom+richard

They just told me they have a white N9 64GB in stock. I'm surprised because I didn't think it would be in stock for another few weeks.

Too good to be true? I would love the community's feedback before I pulled the trigger.

Well, the white N9 was announced on the 26th of October (although it was strongly rumoured beforehand). There were one or two floating around at Nokia World, but it's certainly not available in any retail channels yet. Nokia only said 'Q4' for availability - when was the last time Nokia announced a product and it was on sale at a third-party retailer the next day? Especially one which could distract from the Mango lovefest going on right now...

So yeah, I can't see how anyone offering a white N9 for sale right now (late October) would be able to deliver on that promise [and certainly anyone who does have one right now could not legally sell it]. That to me means scam or - if you're feeling charitable - an honest mistake. Anyone think different?

I won't be surprised if the white version's not available (in the nations the N9's being sold) till 2012.
It's in keeping with Nokia's plans to keep the limelight on their WP's.

Thanks Shallimus. I'm definitely approaching this cautiously. I now see the same contact details on other websites so it looks like a scam... The person's email address doesn't exactly match that of the UK site plus his grammar in his second email is off enough to tell me that he is not a native English speaker.

I guess I'd also like to hear from the forum moderators how / why the post got deleted. Google tells me I wasn't crazy although I can't for the life of me find the original post.

I was about to pull the trigger on the black when I found out about the white. We're in Q4 so hopefully it appears soon. It'll be interesting to see where this was made, Finland or China because of the special glossy coating.

Hehe. :) I'm not sure how to interpret that, but I did throw my N8 across the room a couple of times earlier this week (damn Symbian :/). It bounced off the couch and hit the coffee table. Great build quality. :)

I strongly recommend you wait for us (the countries where N9 is released) to report that a white N9 is coming or has arrived. As of now, no news at all about the arrival of the white N9, whether the dealers or Nokia. Waiting for the black 64GB to arrive is already excruciating enough ;)

An update on Expansys-USA - my old 64 GB pre-order with them fell through. I got an email from them this morning saying:

Quote:

You have ordered the 64GB version of the Nokia N9, but we do not have
a projected availability date on this device. We do have stock of
the Nokia N9 16GB in stock and ready for immediate shipment. If
you'd like to change your order, we can offer you a $25 discount on
the 16GB version ($729.99 US/ $759.99 Canadian)
I pre-ordered on Sept. 27th. So, beware - 64 GB N9's are getting mighty difficult to find, at least in the US.

Sniffle :(
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/28/t...o-be-imminent/

Quote:

Could the writing have already been on the wall for webOS when former VP of worldwide developer relations Richard Kerris left HP for Nokia this week? While nothing is yet confirmed, The Guardian is now reporting that HP will indeed finally shut down its webOS division, which could affect up to 500 jobs (either through reassignment or layoffs -- we've previously heard that some layoffs had already begun). That word comes from some unnamed internal HP sources, who reportedly expect an "imminent closure," with one employee adding that "there's a 95% chance we all get laid off between now and November." For its part, HP remained noticeably mum on any news about webOS when it announced that it would hang onto its PC business this week, and its decision to use Windows 8 on tablets certainly didn't do much to inspire the webOS faithful.

[sarcasm] Gee, I wonder if Nokia might do this for maemo/meego :([/sarcasm]
http://nokiagadgets.com/2011/10/27/n...or-developers/

I don't recall them ever doing anything quite as aggressive, even for Symbian.
N9 devs have had to jump through hoops just to buy N9's as part of the DDP* in the past few mths.
Now they're giving 800's away by the thousands... sigh.....

It's like Nokia's more keen for MS's development env/s to take-off than it's own.
How does this help the long-term viability of Qt if you do this Nokia?
Is MS ever going to agree to allow Qt to become WP's primary dev platform?

*I mean the commercial one direct from Nokia, not the community device program.
I believe some were given away & maybe still are, but AFAIK Nokia has still not disclosed no's.

I want my N9 modded with a TUX or similar on the backcover to differentiate it from the ElopFail cloned Nokia Lumia device

sent a message to swedish nokia today asked for stickers etc.. to give them free advertasing of N9 and in the same time I said how much I love N9 got this answer and got a bit pissed:

"I promise you will love Lumia 800 even more as soon as you can keep it in your hand. I tested the beauty for the first time today and I have probably not been so impressed with out a cell phone since I got my first 3310 that 11-year old boy!"

Then I realised he must not be older than 13 years old now if he REALLY means he like Lumia 800 more than N9 LOL :D
