Working link.

Is it clear if he's talking about the Malaysian pricing, or the world-wide pricing?

Engadget – Nokia N9 is fantastic! “Nokia has really nailed it in terms of hardware and software” This is IT, like NOTHING comes close to this.

It almost feels like Engadget is on the take :)

They seem to lack basic knowledge about how operating systems work and how Meego is governed. Why are these guys reputable again?

All of those three are listed on the Applications page

I agree that there is something odd about the Engadget N9 reaction.

they like shafting nokia.

when nokia is looking for praise they get a beating

when nokia is trying to justify a beating they get praise

OMG and HA-HA. If Nokia drops MeeGo and stucks with WP7 it will be gigantic mistake.

I found these from Twitter just minute ago (in addition to Engadget praising etc)

- Cult of Mac (yeah, cult of mac): http://www.cultofmac.com/things-to-a...opinion/102107 (read commentary also)

And finally: Luovanto tweeted that 38% of visitors at swipe.nokia.com comes from United States.

Elop: It's o'**** moment NOW! OH ****! OH ****! and 10000x OMG.

Because of this.

They were the first to actually receive the marketing quality "leaks" about N9. Even though they made a number of dis-favorable reviews about Nokia's products, they are actually highly valued by Nokia marketing. Quite in contrast to Eldar Murtazin.

They're not reputable. They're popular.

Re: N9: It's finally here

I think the praise by the engadget guys just helps to turn people against elop >:-D and probably it helps to boost some percent on the sales which would be probably with a good effect on the support if the device sells well.

I think Eldork can't be trusted as years before. For example he is sticking to his obsession about the mighty number 92 000. He is tweeting in russian that Nokia will produce only 92k of N9's.

Yea, I would think it would be a tough sell. For me, I might pay it if accessaries were availble that made is it compatiable with hwkb, something like easy debian with repositories could be used as well as the other great apps developed for maemo. Then I would have something like a mobile computer made in the image of the n900 which is what I really want.

On the otherhand, if that is not the case it will be a tough sell for me, especially without a phone plan, (here I am taking the view more so of a typical consumer in US, my apologies if you are misrepresented so please do speak up!) since I am left with a device that, yes, looks very nice, that is probably good for phone, internet use, social contacts and entertainment. But then there is a lot more competition here. The Samsung infuse has a nice 4.5 inch screen. The droid 3 is to be released in mid July and that has a 4inch screen and, (warning for those with keyboard envy and felt forsaken by the lack of one for the n9 you might not want to read the following) has a 5 row keyboard. Oh yes, for what it is worth, did I mention dual core... My guess is that you can get these phones for about 200 or less with a phone plan. While you can and should argue about the real merit of all these features and the manufacured quality of these devices and so forth. My main point is that a lot of interesting stuff will be availble in the short term and it is a long time between now and September. Plenty of time to decide if you want to shell out $600-$750.

The Droid 3 looks pretty sweet, was tempted but the thought of having to use Android again sends shivers down my spine.

Picked up a Desire S recently to once and for all decide my thoughts on Android, I just ended up swearing at it and gave it to my friend who loves it. But then hes new to smartphones.. :p

Re: N9: It's finally here

750$ in this moment trade is about 530€. This would be the price I'm ready to pay but since Finland is a funny place, here 1$ of electronics equal to 1€, therefore we have 750€ + 22% VAT = 915€ for 64 GB version....

I'm waiting for the worst but still hoping for the best .

I'll argue more with the special merits of carriers subsidies.
Last time I checked with t-mobile uk, it is much cheper to buy the phone separately with a sim only plan than to take a subsidized phone with a plan.
Like, for the same phone and the same plan features, at the end of the 24 month of the contract, the sim only option was 200£ cheaper (plus, the contract is one month only so you can change anytime).

In France there's no correct sim only plans, and I can't say for the rest of the world, but here (uk) carriers subsidies are nothing but a pretty expensive consumer credit with free vendor lock-in.

I can't list 1000, being new to Android myself, but I really look forward to seeing your version of the Nuance program FlexT9 Text Input, which has impressive speech-to-text.

Well, clearly there's can't be 1000+ excellent quality apps/games if you can't immediately name them all IMMEDIATELY! :P Heh Sometimes the debates here crack me up. :)

Without trawling through the whole thread, so at risk of repeating posts, I find it hard to believe/understand why the desktop has been got rid of - I find it a massive pain in the arse to scroll through all my installed programs in order to find something. having a desktop, or even better, multiple desktops makes it a lot easier to have programs that use use often right there, plus shortcuts to a frequently used number is well handy.

The way the N9 seems to work is akin to getting rid of the 'All programs' button in windows startbar and just dumping everything you install onto the desktop..

The upcoming folders feature will fix it, since you can group your "favorites" app all together. As for widgets, I bet most of such apps can display the needed info in the notifications/updates view ;)

I think he's making exactly that case and pointing out that the N9 isn't really much of an upgrade from the N900 at all for his purposes. The impression I got was that he would have preferred a beefier CPU, and it sounds like all the rest of the hardware and environment is likely to be irrelevant to his application performance rather than optimal at the high cost of purchasing a new piece of hardware. I would tend to agree with his sentiments, if that's the case. Correct me if I'm wrong, m4r0v3r.

Actually, if the N900 is really close wrt PSX, it wouldn't suprise me if the extra 400Mhz and the fact it's properly optimized to the hardware with more up to date floating point ARM optimizations, would make PSX work well ... But we'll see.

Well, let's say it's 1992 and you want to upgrade your now discontinued Amiga 3000. Relatively affordable computers with faster processors do exist, but they're all i486s running Windows 3. Would you "up"grade?
