Re: [Announce] Enhanced lockscreen

OK... here's what I got from the app so far...

The portrait mode of this lockscreen is by far more responsive vs. default lockscreen with CSSU forced rotation. I don't have the click on the power button too many times and this is definitely a plus point. In fact, I think the rotation itself is also better although it's still buggy. I have always felt that portrait mode via CSSU forced rotation for anything has always been a bit choppy in both the execution and animation so to me, this app does not feel all too bad in its rotation. One thing I love about this is that I have forced rotation off and it has its own portrait support available. HUGE plus point there.

I think since that the slider is sorta irrelevant (it's damn smooth) since you can basically unlock the screen by tapping the bottom right corner - which probably is what the slider prompts you to toggle when touching that part of the screen, then it's really sorta better to have a 'push' or 'tap' button which was on the original lockscreen in version0.1. I thought that was effective enough. A slider seems cooler though but if it is difficult to implement, I think I'm good with just a button.

I do feel that the lockscreen effects calling... so it'll be better if the lockscreen does not trigger on phone calls.... right? or maybe calling causes the lockscreen to trigger a slider like the symbianOS where you slide to answer from within the lockscreen itself? Honestly, the UI doesn't really matter for this one... to me, the more important thing is that whatever the UI of the lockscreen is, priorities should be given to accepting phone calls without any interruption from a blocking lockscreen.

this is the same for alarms. I couldn't snooze because when the alarm popped out, the lockscreen was still there... i had to unlock the screen to snooze or stop the alarm... which is a little bit of a hassle eh?

The media player button is sorta buggy also... I tried pressing play and it does take a while or a couple more presses before the playing starts... also, if I just click play without opening the media player, it's kinda buggy and also, playing is interrupted by the SMS notifications which normally is a small beep when media player is playing music. It's not a hugeee deal but I kinda liked how it just makes a short tone without any effect to the playing audio whatsoever...

all in all... to tell you the truth, this is one MAJOR boost to our experience in using the n900. I think this is important. The lockscreen isn't a big deal... but it's these small little tweaks and changes that makes a huge difference in our experience using this device.

CHEERS to MAG, Hurrian and all for their superb efforts!

Re: [Announce] Enhanced lockscreen

make it double tab like meego and change the background to something more generic and u will have huge experience

u can make it open conversations for sms chat and phone app for calls too.

are meego style multitask gestures be applied to maemo 5? is a huge project but could be interesting one.

mohamed probably too busy with CSSU, and open media player :/

Re: [Announce] Enhanced lockscreen

first of all thanks for the v0.2 buddy .
after using it there are few things i have to say .
1- have found version 0.2 a bit delayed in responding .
like sometimes i dont even able to touch the slider same as f2's video .
2- there should an option to choose between unlocking options .
i know in future we will have more ways to unlock so it should be like select your own way to unlock the screen .
and this choosing option can be implimented to other options too like whether you want the notifications on lockscreen or you want your screen neat etc.
hope to have a blast in upcoming future :p

great work.

i would like to suggest making the slider shorter; pretty long drag to unlock the phone.

edit: figured screen can be unlocked by touching the bottom right area in the slider toggle. good touch that.

Re: [Announce] Enhanced lockscreen

Is it possible to add an option to force the lock screen to appear even if the phone is unlocked using the Lock switch or if the keyboard is slid open?

Same problem here, seems it gets in the way of a call being answerd, causing screen freezes even after the lockscreen closes, as such I have had to remove it.

Is there anyway it can be stopped from loading when an incoming call comes in, as otherwise it seems unusable for me personnally?

I did some testing and the phone aplet shows up after a few rings.

Re: [Announce] Enhanced lockscreen

Here's how this lockscreen actually works.

Replacing the stock lockscreen is near impossible, unless someone wants to rewrite the systemui plugin that handles tk (touchscreen/keyboard) lock, this involves using the same DBus signals and reading the configuration from mce.ini.
Why? Because someone felt it was a good idea to use the same plugin that handles locking and blanking to show the lockscreen UI.

This lockscreen pretty much works in the same way the stock lockscreen works, it displays over all windows (HILDON_STACKING_LAYER), but this one shows over the stock lockscreen.

Qt windows are slower than Gtk ones at redrawing, as a workaround, I show the lockscreen window right when you lock the screen, that way it has all the time it needs to draw the window while the screen's locked, if the device is unlocked, I simply hide the window.

The lockscreen actually listens to call status, if the device is not in call state "none", which is ringing, or call active or whatever, the lockscreen will never show.
I'm guessing the problem with calls is that the N900 kinda chokes when there's an incoming call. I'll have to look for workarounds.

Sounds typical of my N900 w/o the enhanced lockscreen as it sometimes "freezes" on an incoming call for no obvious reason however with the new lockscreen the problem seems worse. Hoepfully MAG can therefore come up with a solution for the problem.

This works flawlessly for me thank you, it's little things like this that keep making me appreciate my n900 more and more. Thanks once more MAG & VEN, and btw have you received an N950 yet because surely you (and the CSSU team) deserve one :). Keep up the great work!

Battery indicator, anyone?

I'm willing to contribute some graphics.

Re: [Announce] Enhanced lockscreen

Not sure if anyone has already mentioned this. Possibility of adding a code to unlock? Draw pattern, number code etc would be good. I know there is the built in lock which involves actually locking via pressing the power button and selecting the lock option however this is a bit pants.

See even after getting the command correct and killing the enhanced-lockscreen process and reopening it I still get no background.

Should the nano .config/MohammadAG line not relate to phone name/user name or is this a generic config file used only be enhanced-lockscreen?

It will always be in ~/.config/MohammadAG (with MohammadAG being the vendor of the software)

Re: [Announce] Enhanced lockscreen

Ok using file explorer I could see that the given commands were not creating the .config file in /home/user/.config/MohammadAG folder. So I changed code to have this full string and can now see config file in this directory but still stuck with default display after killing and starting it.

Re: [Announce] Enhanced lockscreen

I am sorry, but what exactly are the point in these mockups? They are stunningly beautiful, but they're still only mockups. IMHO, if MAG can make this app use a design file (eg xml?) like in conky, then all these mockups would be possible, and anybody could change/add/remove the features that require. Then we can even have people upload their themes here instead of the mockups.

So, what do you say, Mr. MAG?

dekor 2011-06-28 10:57

Re: [Announce] Enhanced lockscreen

arggh even more mind boggling.

If I kill enhanced-lockscreen in terminal using:

killall enhanced-lockscreen

Then run it using:

enhanced-lockscreen

It will use my image as long as I don't close the terminal window! Also is there a certain size for images to be displayed correctly as mine is not centralised and showing part of the left hand side clipped on the right.

Re: [Announce] Enhanced lockscreen

Dekor the almighty post killer!

On a side note I will probably be uninstalling this. When received a call it took around 5-10 seconds for the phone to display the usual answer/reject options.

No offense to Hurrian, but i also don't see point in that "mockupping". Its only real result is bloating this thread to the point, where 50% of users don't know what is real. Maybe just open another thread with "[mockup]" in title?

So far, only one user responded with confirm/deny status of extensive memory usage with lockscreen (that was confirming, lockscreen was using 18 MB also for him). Really can't anyone do fresh reboot, open conky or whatever, and post here real RAM + virtual memory usage?

In my experience, any statement which starts "No offence but..." is often best left unsaid. Of course some people will fail to read what's on their screen and assume that the mockups are actual screenshots, but the benefits surely outweigh any issues (what issues?) If nothing else, MAG has thanked Hurrian for his graphics help and (I believe) even requested some of the mockups (or at least some graphics) for inclusion into the app. That should be enough reason for continuing.

Did a cold boot just now. enhanced-lockscreen has VSZ of 42492 (or around 7% of total memory as shown by top)

Re: [Announce] Enhanced lockscreen

I only use the lock screen when I hold my N900 in portrait mode to unlock then hold the camera shutter to access the phone application to make a phone call. If I want to access other functions of my N900, I hold it in landscape position and use the slider or just slide out the keyboard to unlock.

For that reason I am only interested in having the lock screen in portrait mode only so that it does not rotate back and forth upon pressing the power button.
Also, after tapping or sliding to unlock on the lock screen, if instead of the N900 going to the desktop view it could open the phone application, that would be perfect.
