How many applications are you able to run at once on your N900?
I went to switch applications and discovered that I had quite a lot running, probably eight or so. I decided to keep opening applications until my phone froze completely. Here is the list of what I opened, in the order that I opened them in:
1. Chat 2. Web (startup page) 3. Web (maemo.org) 4. X Terminal 5. Faster Application Manager 6. Phone 7. Settings 8. Email 9. Conversations 10. Sopwith 11. Calculator 12. BatteryGraph 13. Calendar 14. PyGTKEditor 15. LED quickSAVE App (app I made which doesn't fully work yet) 16. RulerJinni 17. EasyList 18. Push It! 19. Leafpad 20. Notes 21. Easy Debian LXDE 22. Dictionary 23. RSS 24. PDF Reader (by this time the UI was starting to get jerky; still, I continued) 25. Blocks 26. Marbles 27. modRana 28. Sketch 29. jspeed (UI almost unusable by now, took 3 minutes to launch) 30. XArchiver (took 12 minutes to open) 31? I gave up waiting for GPS Recorder to launch after 20 minutes. [edit: it did, and so did (32!) File Manager.) So...I had 30 applications running on my N900 simultaneously, and about 27 before it got too slow to be practical (modRana is a bit of a resource hog). So I put this question out to all of you: How many apps can you run at a time? |

Update: File Manager and GPS recorder finally launched. 32 total!

Well, we're basically just limited by ram/swap here; Provided you dedicate a few more gigs to swap(and the applications don't use much cpu once loaded), you could probably end up with a rediculous number of "apps" loaded.
On the other hand, one or two heavy things(Like, say, OpenOffice via EasyDebian) and you could bring it to it's knees. So, we need a proper testing methodology: either a specific set of common apps, or one or two apps that take a reasonable amount of memory and can be opened many times - a couple of placeholder apps. Personally, what's important to me is web, so *my* test would be this: How many web windows, all running a specific page(say something on TMO), can be loaded at once such that when switching to any random one, it's less than a second to be usable(i.e. will scroll and the content is visible again). I've tested with 12 instances of TMO without issues. Of course, 2 instances of Slashdot topics.... |

wow... are you doing that on purpose? hahaha.. i typically just run:
1. 3 IM accounts 2. 5-6 browsers (microb) 3. calender 4. conky 5. a few conversations 6. settings 7. mediaplayer 8. tweego 9. sociality 10. cutetubeqml 11. xterm 12. fapman - but not for long widgets are: 1. conversations 2. mediaplayer 3. personal dataplan monitor 4. personal IP 5. 4 QBW for overclocking. currently, always running what my sig says 6. calender things run generally well now. but if i crank up the number of browsers with those IM accounts online, like say 8+ browsers, then it shows some lagging. i remember just trying to open up all my bookmarks 15+ websites and man did it become slowwwwwww. showed signs of crahshing, but always recovering after a few seconds of painful delay |

Also, I am not overclocked, although I doubt that would make much of a difference if it's ram/swap limited. |
Re: How many applications are you able to run at once on your N900?
Impressive number of open applications there but I wonder can you still remotely launch the phone application over the GSM network (aka receiving a call)
I don't have that many installed applications but it is not difficult for me to browse the N900 NIT into missing a call by simply messing around with many browser windows. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wbu_JN8Q-k |
