I agree, it's stupid. And what I'm going to say next is also stupid, but it can be done with any Linux box (router, n8x0, n900, ..., etc.) and an iPod touch with no jail breaking.

Set up a mail server on a Linux box and mail some files to an account that you also set up on the iPod. Done. Sure, your tunes now have to sit in a mailbox, but they're actually on the device and you can play them. But yeah, still stupid.

I disagree on both accounts. Freedom of choice is ironically what Apple brought to the table with their oft-heralded 1984 commercial.

Yet, 27 years later they have become the so-called corporate masters, attempting to unify all under one banner, their own.

Weird bit o' trivia... at the beginning of their historic "1984" commercial, people were piling into a tube labeled "14". 14th letter of the alphabet = N.
