You need to remove first the modified-hildon-desktop package you have.

Re: [Announce] Hildon desktop portrait mode

4things i found.

-if u go to the menu to rearrange apps from vertical desktop it will enable a potrait rearranger that its kinda buggy.... "done" button is there but its invisible on top right of the menu.
if u going to rearrange something do it from landscape desktop

-also any way to make icons scroll horizontal ? 3 columns vertical scrolling its tiresome. same for the task manager.

- the menu app button is different from the one in the task switcher and desktop

desktop its a rectangle, task switcher have a small curvature in the bottom right corner.

- it doesnt let me change wallpaper desktops --5-6-7-8-9

i was thinking the application main menu would look better in portrait mode would look better if it had four columns instead of the the three...

Re: [Announce] Hildon desktop portrait mode

but then the icons would be smaller??

Hi guys, i just installed the deb package on page 1 and rebooted, but when the desktop rotates the widgets overlap, is anyone experiencing this? is there a work around?

Anybody got any links to sites we can download backgrounds that look good in both the portrait & landscape modes as none of mine now look right in portrait mode.

hihihihi, me too I swear. I can post the proof here!! :D
Or you could just use the Okuda Theme background.

Radicalz38 2011-07-18 17:42

Re: [Announce] Hildon desktop portrait mode

Yes well because for some reason I often use gasballs as desktop design so at least the black one is perfect for me.

scoobertron 2011-07-18 18:08

Re: [Announce] Hildon desktop portrait mode

I am using a black background too, just because the desktops have black spaces between them when scrolling, so a black desktop hides them.

I noticed a fix was mentioned earlier in the thread, has this made it into a .deb? (I installed the one in the first post just today).

Re: [Announce] Hildon desktop portrait mode

I'm fiddeling with some kind of wallpaper which works in either portrait or landscape mode.

http://i51.tinypic.com/v4qvsl.pnghttp://i53.tinypic.com/1zfhs2r.png

That picture should loop on all 4 directions, but when swiping desktops in portrait mode, there's always a black rectangle between views in portrait mode....

can this be changed with a slight change of code ?

My God, Amazing work man! Officially the best thing I could ever want in my N900 and it works so flawlessly imo!

Re: [Announce] Hildon desktop portrait mode

I've updated hildon-desktop package (the first post). It's a bugfix release.
Changes:
* removed black rectangle between views in portrait mode
* fixed some problems with Phone app

Just install the deb from the first page. Looks like it is from 18th. Coded in the deb name. Now I don't see the black lines between desktops anymore.

Good work.

NightShift79 2011-07-18 21:31

Re: [Announce] Hildon desktop portrait mode

yep! I can confirm this. :)
Thank you arcean.

...I'm going to create some more complex Wallpaper.

//EDIT:
shouldn't...
Code:

echo "Package: hildon-desktop
Pin: release a=unstable
Pin-Priority: 1001" >> /etc/apt/preferences

prevent this hd to get overwritten by an apt-get upgrade?

Re: [Announce] Hildon desktop portrait mode

Thanks for this i have been looking for something like since i got my phone! I have a request though is there any chance we can have option to select if user wants vertical or horizontal scrolling on the desktop as i would rather prefer vertical scroll! Also a portrait lock which would lock the phone in portrait unless the keyboard is opened then the ui goes into landscape keyboard closed again ui goes back into portrait similar to the lock applet for landscape! Also someway to set wallpaper the right way up in portrait mode as at the moment the wallpaper gets messed up and loaded just in landscape like blown up but in landscape zoomed in version! This are some of tug ideas which i think i require i.m pretty sure alot of other users might want these too! So please could you do this for us?! Thanks in advance!

I can't find where to change the desktops size when it's in portrait mode.

Check the attachment

Hiya if you have successfully made the vertical scrolling enabled and up and running is there any way you could please made it available for other users to download as including me many others would like this please!

There'll be a way to set separate wallpapers for portrait mode (yes, in the big update :) ).

Re: [Announce] Hildon desktop portrait mode

After installing portrait hildon desktop, I killall'ed hildon-desktop and portrait was working fine. I also rearranged some of my widgets for portrait. After a reboot (IIRC) I lost all desktop switcher widgets, omweather and homeip. When I try to add them again they don't show up. Anyone else experienced this kind of behavior? I think they have gotten off screen maybe...

Re: [Announce] Hildon desktop portrait mode

it seems after another try, I managed to make them appear and luckily thwy remembered their settings...

Found a bug with the latest version (18072011)
When your device is on portrait mode, and when it automatically locks himself (and I mean with a code), you can see what is happening in the background once you want to enter the code :)
Also when you press the empty space (so it asks you if you want to turn off the phone) it will show you the weird screen :D

Hi, I've been using this since you released it o 16th and have to say a big "Thank You". This should be something which should have been implemented by Nokia in the begining itself and thus, this makes you a genious and the Nokia engineers look like a couple of fools.
Great work again!
I see that you've got rid of the black rectangle when switching desktops. Can I make a suggestion?
Since you said your portrait desktop works on the basis of saving the position of widgets in each orientation, is it too difficult to also make the wallpaper rotate along with the widgets using the same principle? I'm not a coder and its just a suggestion.

Thanks again!
cheers!! :)
