Asking anyone to read a vi manual is ridiculous enough to me. Sane people should just learn to use vi by randomly hitting the keys. :D (j/k)

@pedrocoba if you want a similar effect without having to learn to edit a text file, you could use the live wallpaper. Just choose to play video as wallpaper in the live wallpaper setting.

you should open /home/user/.mplayer/config with any text editor(leafpad) then paste the following

then run mplayer through xterm by issueing a command like

mplayer /home/user/MyDocs/.videos/myvideo.mp4

I've tried it continues to Stay There are no desktop effects on the N900 I? What else should I do?

I am confused to run myvideo effect

I've input this command "mplayer / home/user/MyDocs/.videos/myvideo.mp4" in Xterminal, did not happen anything.

BusyBox v1.10.2 (Debian 3:1.10.2.legal-1osso30+0m5) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

~ $ mplayer /home/user/MyDocs/.videos/myvideo.mp4
~ $

asking for a complete tutorial (for noobs) to tweak up settings via xterm is ridiculous, giving such is at least a bit irresponsible.

install Midnight Commander.

On Xterminal:
sudo gainroot
mc

then open .mplayer > config, paste the codes there then save.

Finally, play your video using Xterminal.

viola!

stare at the effects for 2 minutes then never do it again :)

Pros usually don't need complete tutorials only noobs do
especially when they have to to tweak up settings via terminal.

Can this thread please be merged?

Also IIRC; This effect is caused by a video driver bug that only affects x11 programs, so not all windows (ie xterm) will show the playing image. you may also not see any change if you have a light coloured desktop wall paper.

I provided the most newbie friendly instruction so if you still don't understand what to do either learn basic linux or give up.

Wrong it should affect any program as long as the color matches the color offset you provide on config file.

If you want it to work on xterm change your xterm background to black and you'll see.
