Yes.

And our job is to whine at them to get them to work.
That's the only way to get things going.

if you have a little corporate experience, you'd know that comities don't do anything, leave alone lead.

guess it is all about management, isn't it?
maybe like NOKIA about ten years ago; it went from leadership into management mode.
did Maemo.org ever have leadership?

Yes i certainly see your valid point because from where i stand there is no leadership at all within Maemo.org because it is still sitting on its arse doing nothing when it knows Maemo has died and when you make suggestions to get it from Nokia all you get is ranted at and called names and accused of being a troll etc etc .... for what?.

When i open this nowerdays and i see the very name MAEMO.ORG i think to myself what the hell is these people doing apart from playing games with the cssu that is and will never get anywhere without the full source code from Nokia.

So my rant is clear and yes it needs leadership from these bunch of guys that are the current council because it this rate it will be the last council.

Hey Abill, I sort of want to say sorry to you... at first I thought that you were intentionally trolling the whole forum... by missing everyone else's point and stating the obvious again and again... but now I'm thinking that you... may be something else.

Do you mind going through this website and letting me know your results?

The website to go to.

Thanks

At this point, it's all wait-and-see and hoping for SOMEONE to put out MeeGo--hopefully more than just Intel. Maemo is already dead no matter what *MY* battle plan happens to be. What's your battle plan, short, french and despotic?

Heh.. if I'm a troll, you are too. Let's not throw labels around carelessly and with such irony. I trust you can be better than that.

The past is what leads up to the present, and the present is the intersection into tomorrow. True, the road so far doesn't always predict the one ahead but it usually helps to know where you've been before you can know which direction you're traveling toward. The direction for Maemo, so far, doesn't appear to be an ever-improving one without proper hardware support and without any new hardware to port it onto--mainly that's Nokia's fault. MeeGo appears to be the one with all the trending toward porting all over the place onto lots of hardware. It's just the facts as I see them right now. What are you thinking?

Sorry, I didn't mean to address that reply so ambiguously. I'm not one to throw around the "troll" label as liberally as some people. :) I'm probably one of the few that prefers the participation of dissenting opinion, whether I agree with them or not.

i'm not going to try to convince you that we will make Maemo Fremantle (under whatever name) the next buntu phenomenon if the only thing the ppl are interested in is being able to keep using and possible re-flashing once in a while their N900s.

i think we need to figure that out before getting into concrete actions

I can at least agree with your sentiments, even I don't think it'll go very far thanks to every effort by Nokia to spend money and resources to make sure to write closed-source software into every nook and cranny. Incredible. Here's hoping for a big bang, even if I expect a small pop and a puff of smoke.

That's the most frustrating thing about this particular community (and starting to share this element of appalling behavior we used to see from Nokia)--a severe lack of communication and an inclination to dissuade controversy with silence. :/ I've been in sharp agreement with you about opening up Maemo to the community--but then, this is a drum I've been beating since the day I joined this site and heard that Nokia had intentions to release source code to the community. (Which I suspect wasn't to Nokia's credit so much as component manufacturers... since software that was CLEARLY 100% Nokia's are STILL completely closed.. like the calendar and a lot of the media integration and apps, etc.).

Ha once again a good post from you and one point i do want to make on here about the so called closed software that the community is being held to ransom over.

It is all shite about this closed software because it refers to component drivers inside of the N900 that have now been superceded long time since so what is the sense in holding back code WHEN we have an absolute demanding forum called Maemo.org that can and will progress Maemo should it be released to us.

Nokia are full of crap now and i am tired with the game of legalities that surround the release of code for components inside a device they not only have ceased to make but have publically said ALL support for Maemo has now ceased.

So we rattle on and complain and moan and groan untill someone picks it up for what it is and gets the release underway.

The community council in my opinion is half baked in its role for this community because any council of any establishment is more than capable of listening to its members woe's and acting accordingly.

All we have here from the council of Maemo.org is utter silence and that is just not good enough in my opinion.

Instead we got a few wise cracks like lma who utterly deny any right of freedom of speech and would have us hung drawn and quartered given the chance.

So what is the next step? where and what do we do from here?.

Abil_uk: What did you do with the "petition"? When I sign a petition down at the supermarket (we have a lot of them here in California) the person who distributed the petition sends it to the authority it is directed at. Did you send it to Nokia? To whom? What did they say?
