cuteTube for Harmattan
 
Update 11/10/11:

cuteTube has now been submitted to Nokia Store for QA approval. :) Some screenshots of the finished product:

Aside from the UI improvements, there a few useful features that have been added:

1. You can search for playlists in addition to videos.

2. You can access/edit your 'Watch Later' playlist.

3. Browsing and searching etc can be performed whilst videos continue to play in the background (optional).

4. You can have the activities of you or your friends (likes, favourites and uploads) displayed on the homescreen.

It's for the N950/N9 atm, but I'll be bringing as many of the improvements as possible to the Freemantle version. It may be possible to implement everything, depending on the status of the Freemantle port of Qt Components. The only obvious problem is that the the toolbar icons cannot be redistributed, so I'll need to replace those with my own.

Amazing so by the time i get my N9 i'll be ready to have fun on youtube with ur app... Hope u also add the hidden function u've put in the N900 version.. ;)

nice work so far on your cutetube application. both maemo 5 version and meego-harmattan version.

not sure if this is possible or if you have already thought of it. When using youtube or any other website with embedded youtube video, instead of trying to play in the browser (n900) or opening the video in the flash player (N9/50) can it open the video in cutetube? therefor allowing you more control over the video. Or on n9/50 can you choose what to do when you longpress or press on the video in the web browser, eg having the option in the context menu.

I have thought of this, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to achieve. I imagine it will require some dbus hackery. I doubt there will be any easy way of enabling a user to choose a third-party application to launch a file. Even now, Symbian users still have problems using Opera as their default browser for all activities.

Update:

The new version of cuteTube for the N9 is almost ready to be submitted to the Ovi Store. New features include:
  1. Improved UI.
  2. View recommended videos in your channel.
  3. View favourites, playlists and subscriptions for other user channels where they are made public.
  4. Visit user websites if shown in profile.
  5. Search for playlists in addition to videos.
  6. Choose to browse any category from the full list via the homescreen.
  7. Continue playing videos in background whilst browsing content. There is an option to pause automatically if preferred.

dunno that, i dislike a purple color in one of ur screenshoot.
Seem that i doesnt crop or proper with black background, anywar purple stands for of ex-wife color in my tradition or belief in some clan , thats on my country

Looks like you won't be too happy with the stock applications, then. They also use purple. :p

No need to get used to it. :) I decided to enable the user to choose the colour. I have implemented it in my MusiKloud application, and I will add the same to cuteTube.

This app is really great! I used it all the time on my n900.

It works good on the N9 as well, very nice UI and transitions.

You're using the early beta version. The version that will be in Nokia Store works as expected, and has quite a few new features. :)

Marxian are you planning on porting to symbian 3? I just bought N8, there isn't a single decent youtube player for S3, the official app plays in 240 or so. Knowing how great it is from N900 I`d happily pay £5 for it.

great to hear that you are focusing on symbian version for cutetube, my lover has eye teeth for decent youtube app for n8!!!

Yes. Both versions will be in Nokia Store. The N9 version has been submitted to QA, so it should hopefully be available within the next few days. I should have the Symbian version ready for submission pretty soon. :)
