I still have the 1.1.2 version installed on PR 1.3..., but i am not getting the notification either in the store or manually from the manage applications link from settings, any solution ?

Man, just when I was trolling my friends with Android and iPhone that they can't play youtube in the background while searching for what next to play :| Everything works and love the new UI, but missing this feature.

Add me to the list of "changing save location doesn't work" bug. I installed the app for the very first time today(Nokia N9 PR1.3). I like to keep all of my videos nice and orderly right in the /MyDocs/Movies/ location, but when trying to change the default save location to /home/user/MyDocs/Movies, Cutetube creates a new path INSIDE of /home/user/ (new output path is /home/user/home/user/MyDocs/cuteTube/). I thought I was going crazy but luckily I'm seeing others having the same issue.


I'm not rooted, so I'd prefer an update if possible(a simple oversight on the devs side, no biggie), but considering how long it took Nokia to publish the last update to the Store, I might just root up so I can edit the config file. For now, I've just been using Filebox to copy them over for now, but it is a little tedious(you must enable "Show root filesystem" in Filebox to do this). Also, can you please remove the auto-addition of /cuteTube/ to every directory choice? It's sort of cumbersome as I KNOW cuteTube is the source it came from since it's my media player of choice.

Otherwise great software! Videos play quickly and smooth. The search seems to take a tiny bit long even on HSPA, but it's fine on Wifi. I'll chalk that up to a T-Mobile issue. I'm glad I dropped the money on it!

Figured out how to prevent the 'no search results' error from inaccurately being displayed: disable the 'show duration' option within the search options.
Now all is working fine.

When I tried to update to 1.2.4 from the store, I got - "There was a problem downloading the item. Try again."

I thought deleting the current version and reinstalling would help, but I get the same message! Now I have no cuteTube! HELP! :confused:

Update 1.2.5 is in Ovi store now.

For me this one has broken youtube search (no videos found, no matter what is seach). Dailymotion searches seem to work fine.

The move away from the older video player seems strange to me. The default video player used in the newer versions doesn't support playing in the background/screen off, or ability to return to cutetube after the video plays/ on pressing back. Thus, nothing can be done on cuteTube like queueing the next video.

I really think the ability to continue playing in the background/with screen off is an important feature. Does anyone know why the switch was made away from to the default harmattan video player?

Yeah it's a bit of a bummer losing those abilities, I'm pretty sure Marxian said a few pages back in this thread that it was something to do with PR1.3, you'll find it if you look hard enough.

I see. Open video player is still able to do this, although 1.3 did introduce some bugs. But then again, OVP didn't go through the Nokia store, and thus had lax requirements

I can't seem to download videos, download fails everytime, previously I could watch a videos while is gets downloaded in the background. Now I can only watch.

I just found that search actually works and the reported "error" was in fact the search result. It turned out that the search setting "show results form" hat not a set value. After selecting "all time" a new search found the expected results. So everyone who has the same issue check and re-set your settings and it should work.

Why youtube videos are only 360p ? I see for dailymotion is available 480p .

Later edit : It seems my device is playing 480p better than 360p . On 360p videos I have a little lag at every 2 seconds , but with 480p I'm getting sometimes "you can't play this type of video" even if it plays very smooth . :(

Not being happy with the recent updated UI and not being able to play video in background or the option to monitor clipboard for youtube links, I decided to go back to an older release of cutetube version 1.07 and made it work by deleting a line of code that was making cutetube crash when videos where click to start playing.
Now I can say I'm happy to have cutetube working again. :)

Yup same here the above features were the killer features...I too downgraded just for them...Hope marxian manages to re-implement them in some new version down the road...

Its ironic how i used to use this and OVP from marxian as examples of how the n9 is more advanced than droids but an upgrade made it less advanced just as those droids were getting on par :p

Transcend, is it done via qml-file editing? If such, can you provide some instructions on how to do that?

Also, could this be done with v.1.1.2? I think it is the latest version before UI rewrite.

Yes! is a qml-file not sure if it can be done to v.1.1.2 or if would work since I didn't test that version because I don't have a backup of that .deb
The qml-file to edit is NowPlayingPage.qml it's located inside
/opt/cutetube/qml/cutetube/

go to line 336 and delete
opacity: position > 0 ? 1 : 0
save the changes run cutetube and enjoy!

Ok I got good news guys a friend of mine had a back up of v.1.1.2 and I did the same to that file so I can also confirm that it works on that version.

edit line 348 on v.1.1.2

The built-in backup mechanism doesn't backup the .deb files right? At least I can't find them in /home/user/myDocs/.backups/ anywhere and I have of course already installed the newest version...

Recently, old version of cuteTube (v.1.1.2 with Transcend fix) stopped to play videos. If you try to play any video cuteTube says:But you can open video page, view comments, etc. I tried to connect my account to cuteTube but this doesn't help.

Does anyone have the same behaviour with old cuteTube? Is new version working ok?

I read on the fremantle thread about a new way to access YouTube hence marxian has pushed out a new update to Harmattan and Symbian versions...

Maybe due to this the old version doesn't work?

I don't use cuteTube anymore since the new version is something that the stock browser with iOS UA plays back well too...Only when i wish to download i use it...I miss the multi-tasking ability it used to have but like marxian explained he won't be recoding it so no way that will ever make it into the new versions :(...

I really like the qml version of cutetube (version is 1.11.1 i think) . But just few days ago youtube downloads quit working. :(

marxian, I've noticed that when PSM is turned on, wifi tends to turn off itself somewhere towards the end of the video and it will end abruptly. The problem is that cuteTube doesn't prevent this behaviour. Can you make so that cuteTube will hold wifi connection as long as it's opened (even with PSM)?

Can anyone help to resolve the "Unable to retrieve video. Access may be restricted" problem of CuteTube. I found that almost any version i have installed.

Just noticed on the updated version when I click to enable access to private videos, I get the following page:

However, I can only scroll up and down but not sideways so I'm unable to enter the login details...

I don't know if this is a persistent issue as never tried it in the previous versions...

Another bug I've noticed,

I can't play any video from my archives if I choose KMPlayer or Media Player as the player of choice...However, selecting cuteTube player allows the playback...Furthermore, the selection of cuteTube player allows videos to be played while minimized (yay!) but they tend to have subtle frame-drops...


Edit: Selecting kmplayer and playing from the results is no issue though...

IMO, since kmplayer is unable to show the video in the multi-task screen I'll stick to cutetube player...


Another issue I have is I get no results searching for Youtube videos but I do get for Dailymotion even though I'm logged in Youtube but not Dailymotion...Maybe its linked to the private videos issue mentioned in the above post...

With 1.4.0 I sometimes find the app locked to landscape orientation even if I set up it to "auto". Setting it back to auto fixes this (until next time, of course).

Yup same problem here...It auto-sets to landscape orientation at every start-up of app...
