Canalys: Android has almost half of global smartphone market, Microsoft has one percent

http://www.linuxfordevices.com/c/a/N...gust-1-report/

Originating article: http://canalys.com/newsroom/android-...t-phone-market

This doesn't look good:

Quote:

Initial Windows Phone 7 devices haven't made much of a mark, however, according to the market research firm. Fewer than 1.5 million Microsoft-based smartphones shipped during the quarter, equating to a mere one percent share of the global market, down 52 percent against shipments a year ago, according to Canalys.

Found a video documentary of Microsoft's blunder, perceived from Nokia's point of view:

Yes, but it is super-extra-special 1%. Consists mostly of pretty women and men who smell good.

Re: Canalys: Android has almost half of global smartphone market, Microsoft has one percent

I wouldn't count on android on a long run. for example htc:s margins are starting to look worrying (even before all the patent fights have been fought)

http://www.mzcan.com/taiwan/2498/eve...s%20Review.pdf

amount of handsets sold goes up (page 5)
and margins down(page 8)

at least for now it looks like the future of the android will be written by the chinese who can say f*ck you to western patents and licensing....

What's the margin for Samsung, then? Android is a platform with looooots of manufacturers--the biggest of them right now being Samsung. What's Nokia's?

Asking, not getting. Samsung, Barnes & Noble and every Android maker except HTC refused and decided instead to challenge it in court. Just the same.. what are the margins right now?

I don't think they are getting 15$/android phone but they are getting something. MS isn't the only one getting something. Apple and couple of other players are getting something as well :D

No need to talk about margins right now. Patent fees will be implemented retroactively.

Why do you think all the major manufacturers are still into wp7 Mango?

Or not, if they don't succeed in racketeering. Still interested in seeing numbers, if there are any.

If you have read any of the recent developments from android patent lawsuits, you know there will be successful cases.

Apple is suing Samsung mostly on the basis of gestures.

I'll give them a gesture. Hell... it's even coming from a JUDGE (Scalia, US Supreme Court):
