i got the cssu versions of the libqt files installed, could this be the problem?

kasvopus and twimgo work like expected. only fmobi doesn't...

There seems to be some issues with the trial not showing the login screen, will fix this later today.

The trial version works for me now. It didn´t a couple of days ago

I wouldn´t mind paying 1$ for this . I mainly use facebook in Opera since i´m downsizing my facebook usage.

Yes, we lost interest because he actually wants our money (and probably an outrageous sum of a couple of euros) for an extremely polished and fully featured facebook client with a great UI, that he has put a lot of effort into. How dare he?

Re: [Announce] fMobi - Facebook mobile client

I feel like I should input my .02 here - this guy makes an awesome application, labels it as a beta and releases it to the N900 market, mostly filled with super nerds and developers and has them beta test it, then he changes the beta into a trial version - however the link to buy the trial version is nowhere to be found?

Personally I think he should release it to the Maemo 5 community free of charge, since it will always be in beta stages for us.

Is this app going to be available in stable form for the N900? Ovi Store? Any information?

Your chat needs to be on to make it work.

@jkosonen

can you please put a dashboard/minimize tab on the possible next update for maemo?

i know ctrl + <- on the slideout keyboard can do it but an icon will help on the days i just feel touching and tapping the screen only...

btw, i read previous posts and it seems fmobi is in ovi store now for sale. is there a feature not included on 2.0.1 when it was still in your site as "trial"?

install Shortcutd from Extra-devel or extras, it allows u to use the camera button light press to do any function like dashboard/minimize. Very helpful for portrait mode. I use it for long now. makes life easier!

Thank you, Ovi version is veeery nice, worth buying it! Thanks for developing this app; chat implementation is not as good as i would like as it isn't so easy to manage a lot of conversations.... anyway, thank you very much!

Why don't you chill out already. We should be glad some still keep developing quality software to our our over two years old platform.

I respectfully disagree - we own a developers device, it is known to be buggy, it is out dated, and it does require tweaks to run properly. The profit margin the author is making off of N900 users (who he undoubtedly stood on the shoulders of giants with) is very minimal compared to Symbian ^3 and MeeGo ports. And the way the author released the beta for testing then disabled it was a total A-HOLE MOVE.

"Hey guys - test this for me and tell me if it works? Okay, what about now? Cool, try this. Great. Thanks a lot for helping me test my product and your feedback, now I am going to deactivate it and make you all pay $2 for it."

That guy is an a-hole. Damn fine application though, P.S. YOUR WELCOME FOR OUR [MAEMO COMMUNITY] FEEDBACK AND TESTING!

Re: [Announce] fMobi - Facebook mobile client

Well, that's true, but the app is nice enough and handles direct messaging, and I know, built-in facebook messanging is the better (It's even better than experimental Telepathy-KDE I use(d) in my Kubuntu Desktop Machine... jaja)
And that of 'using' us... nobody forced anyone to 'help' him testing his apps; he didn't actually invented that way of doing things. For example, I tried MS Office 2010 Beta and a couple days after beta version was out it stoppred workin: 'Beta is over' it said... so... I don't blame the programmer for that. (And BTW it was $20MXN in Ovi Sore which is slightly less than $2USD, jejejeje) (Karma: 3G not available in Mexico)

He might, he might now - the profit margin he will see is so small since this is a DEV community. AND HE USED US.

can you please give the guy a break? though i didn't like the way the plug was pulled i still wouldn't bash him so much. just uninstall the app and do not buy it.

Stay calm people...

It's 2!!! ****ing €, so buy the application or let it!

Imho the program is totally worth the 2€ and the developer did a great job.

The question still rises, how will we get updates through ovi store??? Symbian and MeeGo can, we can't.

No, even you admit it. Let's go though this:

1) He knows the Maemo community is A SMALL MARKET of people who are developers, tinkers, beta testers, and hacks.
2) He released a beta application for us to test, we tested it, gave feedback, came up with our own solutions, etc.
3) He released a new one for us to test, we did that and as soon as he was done USING us - he DISABLED THE APPLICATION. (my main problem)

I don't mind that he is charging, I paid $2 for the application. I also pay taxes and I think most of my government is filled with a-holes.

Here is my point: this community helped him build it, plain and simple. There was no reason for him to disable the beta. It is just a nasty selfish thing to do. I still think it should be free since he relied upon us for his testing and development - however what really ticks me off is he disabled the beta, just to be <insert offensive word here>.

If he comes here and give me a VALID reason why he disabled the beta that we tested for him I will "give the guy a break."

Re: [Announce] fMobi - Facebook mobile client

I paid for Angry Birds, JoikuSpot (that stopped working), Coaster Rush 3D, TowerBloxx, Zen Bound, StellariuMobile, and a few others. They all released finished products without the help of the Maemo community and I paid for their work and was happy to do it. This is not about the two measly dollars, it is about the way the guy went about it.

xxxxts 2011-12-05 03:00

Re: [Announce] fMobi - Facebook mobile client

I went though this thread and looked for all the members who beta tested this for him, reported bugs, gave input, etc. He should contact all of the below members and send them the finished product free of charge.

ayos!, Carlito, N900L, Chrome, cloud596, ejasmudar, dar3d3vil, Zekahz, akrus, pusak gaoq, sneer_69, eefo, gregoranderson, gilamonyet, Dark_Angel85, amadeukaos, strange1712, jpala16, coredumb, NightShift79, dekor, Mike Fr, StocChr, droll, Haider, STVN, trisha02, Del, travla, Alfred, liao22

If I missed you above, I am sorry. How is that for a compromise?

strange1712 2011-12-05 03:17

Re: [Announce] fMobi - Facebook mobile client

It was always said it was a Beta, and he didn't just developed a version for Maemo, but also for Symbian and Meego, Whose communities also helped him fix bugs, and in spite of their community size, it would be just unfair to charge on them and let it free for us just because we are cool and (also) helped him reporting bugs... He did right as he could have just published a limited and buggy app on Ovi Store for the same charge but instead he first allowed us to test his app for free, he improved it and when Beta was over so was the app, as easy as that, Being a Beta Tester doesn't generate rights or ownership over the app, that never happens. Even in Open Source Software, which can also be paid, you wouldn't receive a copy of the compiled program for being tester, you just would be mentioned in the "thanks to testers..."
Developer is also reasonable, if libs or facebook api change so that the app turns outdated or unusable, he might update the app or send you an updated version independently if Ovi works or not... If he denies to do that I would support you, right now I don't...

Time will tell, and judging by his character in disabling the beta for no reason I am betting against him.
