Re: no internet (even though correct key entered)
Long shot, but maybe worth deleting the AP on the n900 (from settings->internet connections->connections) and then setting it up again from there with the same key as before - I sometimes get problems connecting to some public wifi AP's when I just select the AP from the auto-detected list on n900, but setting up from scratch works in those circumstances.
It's a long shot 'cos it's only one specific type of wireless router that seems to give me that issue, I guess its unlikely to be the same as the one you're trying to connect to. |
Re: no internet (even though correct key entered)
Hi there thanks for your replies guys!
Looking at my phone settings on my connections settings i can see the options of: network mode: infastucture or adhoc securty method is set to:WPA pre-shared key. the other options are: WEP, or WPA with EAP. which option is best? On the advanced setup of the AP creation i have found some other things. such as atab that says proxies, ip addresses and other. If i go onto ip addresses i can see auto retrieve ip which is ticked. ip address is 0.0.0.0 subnet is 0.0.0.0 default gateway is also 0.0.0.0 auto retrieve dns is also checked. primary dns is 0.0.0.0. under the 'other tab' i have 100mw selected and WPA2 only mode unchecked. Should ANY of these settings be changed? thanks. I have attached another screen from the router config on my windows based laptop thanks ppl. http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/1340/wepp.png |
Re: no internet (even though correct key entered)
Ok delete the acces point from the n900 under settings-> connections
From the screen I see easypairing maybe means thatWiFi Protected Setup Compliant on n900 So open status-menu (top bar) Select connection your router and if possible the button with WiFi Protected Setup Compliant Then follow the steps on your screen of your n900 ;) |

Re: no internet (even though correct key entered)
it's confusing because you originally said you were entering a WEP key ... but later you say that your router config is set to WPA. You need to be clear which of these is correct before going any further (I assume WPA as that is what the AP itself says - however if in any doubt, you should double check by looking at the config of a laptop or other device that is connecting successfully to the AP).
Did you do what I suggested and delete the existing connection from your phone & recreate it manually? Also, double check that your router isn't set to only accept connection requests from known MAC addresses (doesn't sound like that's the problem based on the error msgs you posted before, but best to be thorough). Once you know what key type (WEP or WPA) is expected, reboot the router/AP and the n900. Then delete/recreate the connection manually again. When doing this, choose the option to scan for AP's and select your own (verify that the n900 setup defaults to the correct "security method", and change it if incorrect. Enter the key manually rather than by cut & paste just to be sure that you haven't mistakenly got a dodgy character in the string. When setting up the connection, all the defaults should be OK (i.e. infrastructure mode, power saving etc. and you shouldn't need to mess around with the ip address settings either - unless your router is set NOT to serve DHCP, which is pretty unlikely). However, in the advanced tab, it may be worth disabling the power saving mode for the time being just to ensure that is not affecting the connection. If that doesn't help, I'm out of ideas. |
