For VOIP users

hello all, if you are a voip user, and you intend to make calls on your n900, there are some steps to follow.

1. Add the protocol.
you might want to add the 'sip' protocol to your protocol list. Making sure that you are set as 'online'.

2. Fill in the blanks.
you might want to fill in the blanks in this format:
user id: username@sip.sipdomain.com
pass: password
if you got this right the green light will become steady, indicating that you are connected and online.

3. Make a call.
you might wanna select the 'sip' option from your dialer.
and add the country code :d.

if this doesnt work.
it might be that you input something wrong or, the routers port is not letting you through.

and 'NO' it will not display how much you have in your account :p

thank you for watching.

Its DJ Prince boi!

Its feature as old as memo itself, and I don't see much point in this thread. I hope it's not another semi-intelligent spam bot, posting things based on tags, then, after some weeks, sudden of nothing starting to spam ;)

@HtheB
Don't be silly. This is an internet tablet, it can't make phone calls.
P.S. neither can it send text messages

Re: For VOIP users

Lets make it a bit useful at least then.

Sometimes VOIP phone calls can become choppy. That usually happens if you did not switch off your phone for a while. What I do nowadays is reboot my phone before making a SIP phone call. Then I never have problems.

It would be nice if the SIP servers could be automatically stopped and restarted in the middle of the night or so via cron, but I do not know if this is possible or not. At least this is a quick fix :).

Well, perhaps not quite that old. The first end-user-friendly (after a few mostly CLI community experiments) SIP implementation we had was third-party (Gizmo). The rtcomm stack (telepathy-sofiasip etc) we know and love/hate was first released as beta on Bora, but it only became an official part of the platform on Chinook (Maemo 4).

I have "heard" that the problem could be related with audio-codecs (or N SIP stacks, I never had problems but...) - Generally, SIP-servers do not need to reboot every night (lol, sorry...).

I don’t think that SIP servers require a reboot every day. Please check the same SIP server from your PC as well. I don’t think there should be an issue through PC. As mobile phones tends to be hanged especially smart phones if we stretch a process for long on it.
You can check it on other phones as well before reaching on any conclusion. I am using VOIP services on my mobile and PC and hardly faced these issues yet.
