What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
Luckily, we have quite a choice here.
What does your favourite music player have over the alternatives? Pros & cons? I've used MediaBox for quite a while because of the option to select a folder as a playlist, because that's the way I want to manage my music collection (i.e. not meta-data/tag oriented, but by folder structure), and because of potrait mode of course. The UI is problematic to me though, so I'm looking for a better solution. With auto-rotation enabled, it keeps switching between landscape and protrait if held in an oblique (slightly tilted) position, and takes quite some juggling to make it calm down, which is a nuisance. Also the slider at the margin is not sensitive enough, and very often does not react. What are your experiences? |
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
I'm using Symfonie, which is simple and also can play from folders. It also supports screen rotation (auto or manual).

Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
The default player. It's the only one that I've found usable with 5000+ songs and it scrobbles tracks to Last.fm.

Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
default player, why cause save more battery life
|
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
The default media player is the one for me as:
4000+ songs last.fm scrobbling, although I am sure others have it. AVRCP works best with this player alowing control of music from my bluetooth car stereo and headset. And most of all, the big button that plays randomly from the whole library. I would use OMP, but it is very slow shuffling between tracks with a large library. |
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
Open Media Player. All pros from default one + enhanced features + it's open, ffs.
Yea, Open Media Player is not finished yet, but I will be, and I take openness over "finished" anytime. |
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
I use Symfonie because it is easy to handle and it also has got an equalizer (but still, I don't listen to music on my N900 that much because there is not enough bass).
I also tried Someplayer which also has some nice features - however, I don't know what all the symbols stand for, so it is a bit difficult for me to handle it. |
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
Definitely Someplayer ( http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=70405 )
I need the ability to play from folders and in addition to that, Someplayer simply has the best, most natural sound quality of all the players that I have tested (including the default player and Symfonie). It also features (among many other things) an equalizer, although I never (have to) use that. The player is a bit tricky to get started with, but once you get the hang of it, it actually is not really difficult to handle. |
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
Default player for me as well, no issues and can't really think of any killer feature I'm missing.
|
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
default player i tried someplayer and it was great sounded good, but still prefer default for it's userbility
still wanting gapless playback but i'm sure i heard it's not possible :( |
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
instinctiv is pretty good but lacks the search option and a bit not that well developed but it works good. mediabox is pretty good as well. but i use default player when i want some quick music. but when im in the mood to listen hardcore then mediabox or instinctiv

Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
Rockbox
+play from folders +gapless playback +equalizer -no portrait -UI could be better |
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
Just the stock player. I find the usability pretty good. Do miss gapless playback, but it's nothing major, unfortunately tons of standalone mp3 players are missing that feature, so I frequently encode my mixes as a single file.

Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
I can't believe only one person said Rockbox
It's the best audio quality player by far on N900 Quality only comparable to Foobar2000 for Windows |
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
Rockbox all the way, my library is +4000 songs and I can scroll from 1st to last in seconds, something that takes an age on the stock player.
Also I find the random, much more random than the stock player. For some reason the stock player always seems to play some tracks loads more than others (which it shouldn't when the library is so big) As mentioned previously the UI could be better, but I believe the project is still bing worked on ( and you create your own) |
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
Rockbox is not in extras and some people just don't install apps from devel repo.

So I've been using the open-source version of the stock player in order to get a working portrait mode.Much easier to operate in portrait at the gym and in the car. That one does not stutter because it uses MAFW just as the stock player does. It isn't quite feature-complete yet (e.g. no category view for videos yet), and there is no deb yet so installation is "for geeks only" but works great as far as the actual playing of music. |
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
SomePlayer!
Love It
|
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?

- not finished - publisher stopped supporting long time ago was my favorite music player, but i have too many problems with its performance, so using open media player now. |
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
Definitely Rockbox, nothing that is even closed to it's league when comes to quality and functionality, yet not the most finger-friendly design.

Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
Rockbox !!
Separate treble/bass control (interligent gain management= no audiable distortion even if you select very high gain values) Equalizer Not heavy on cpu usage. Very high quality. Ui not vey attactive(sort of boring) |
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
its depends on situation, for listening to podcast i prefer nqaap or easyplayer that reminds last position when i close this program. but for everyday usage i choose default one
|
Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
Over the past few weeks it became OMP. Now that its development is speeding up, it is increasingly becomes the most potent IMHO.

Re: What is your favourite music player for Maemo 5?
Which media player works well with AVRCP?
..lite on the battery would also be nice. Oh, and perhaps a desktop widget? |
