Re: [NEEDED] Appealing ideas for next CSSU

I think the best thing to do is rewrite some pieces to make the cellphone smoother. Some times the lag between a click and response is too long, 2 or more seconds is way too much nowadays, some times i have to wait 4 or 5 seconds for something to open.... and i mean when trying to make a call, open addressbook or send an sms wich are the three apps i use most of the time.
And yes, i have it OC'ed because i like to record HD videos.

I think this is a heck of a machine, it shows it has a lot of power, but sometimes the software seems to be an issue.

install -thumb version, on my OC to 805 n900 contacts/conversations startup times are 2-3 times lower than on my n950

A killer portrait and landscape keyboard. I only need this. Everything else is more than perfect in N900. Thanks to all CSSU developers.

1. swipe on desktop (from bottom to top) witch opens: [terminal/quick launch menu]
2. build-in camera streaming capabilities [editable from camera UI]
3. version bump ups of most things.

Oh...and is it possible to switch to ~current kernel?

Orientation lock should also lock Phone application. It's in gconf, isn't it?

I have CSSU Thumb, OC to 900, yet starting up the phone application takes too long. Sometimes long enough to actually miss the call.

The one feature that I would like most is proper voicemail handling. You know,. an icon in the status bar signalling that you have an unread voicemail, a single voicemail number in the address book even after several SIM card swaps, that kind of thing :)

Oh, and a bit louder ring would be nice. Oh the number of times I missed the call because I did not hear the damn thing ringing! It was in my pocket at the time.

EDIT: Missing calls may be a combination of things. First I may not hear it quickly enough, then it takes a while for the phone app to start, and lastly it always starts in landscape and takes time to turn to portrait even though I have it set up to portrait only. Consequently there is a lot of wasted time before I press the answer call button and sometimes miss (because of the turning) and press reject :(

I know this is too hard but here's an idea

What about separating the main sound volume controller from the media player one
this feature would make us play 2 media files at the same time (i know it's possible using mplayer)

I would be very happy with a CLI to turn FM Carkit on/off. It would provide many possibilities.

Thanks for the advice, but i have read (or understood) that this is an unstable branch or at least "devel" so i think i would wait just in case.
Maybe read a bit more too.

EDIT: Nevermind, now i see your signature and it says stable... THANKS, i'll see if im capable of giving it a try.

EDIT2: I have my phone OC'ed so i can take HD videos, will this be still usable or i may lose the chance to take 720p videos?

A "Duplicate / Copy contact" functionality. Seriously, adding contacts from the same family / corporation / whatever is a pain. At least if you like to keep your contacts accurate.

Re: [NEEDED] Appealing ideas for next CSSU

I was thinking yesterday (some tomes i can) and it came to me, that the CCD on the camera is big enough to take HD video (or video anyway) on vertical position.
¿Will that be possible?
Even on a separate app it will be nice to have the chance to take a 720x480/1280x720 video instead of a 480x720/720x1280

On the subject of contacts, increased font size would be extremely welcome. In the car, my phone holder is near the center mirror, & bringing up contacts yields microsopic text. It's necessary to remove the phone from the holder & get it close enough to read the micro-font in order to dial a number.

Holding Shift and pressing qweasdzxc does for me.

Edit:

Actually holding Shift and Q will close all quickly.

Match contact's first/second name, nickname to "^spam$" and grey out messages from it in the Conversations.
Or add an option to mark account as spammer. Whichever method is faster.
Optionally: do not show notifications for them. But that's already achievable with messageblocker, isn't it?

Thank you for the suggestion.

I can find the packeage overview for contact-zoom on maemo.org
http://maemo.org/packages/view/contact-zoom/
but it doesnt' show up in my application manager for download, even with extras-devel & extras-testing enabled.

extras is where I got it from. I don't remember manually downloading anyway.
The testing and devel may have been cleaned by repo manganement.

Re: [NEEDED] Appealing ideas for next CSSU

Wouldn't it be a good idea if we have a new repo something like uncssu or whatever where we can get all packages which are not developed bycssu or included in cssu
I mean if we have cssu-testing installed and wanted to use cssu-stable we can enable a repo and revert everything to original
in this way we don't have to reflash
apologize if this is not the right place to ask

Re: [NEEDED] Appealing ideas for next CSSU

(crossposting at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=1308907)

For the next CSSU release perhaps either a soft control in settings or a hard limit to data transfer or priority to the internal EMMC flash memory.
I experience severe slowing up to to system crash and shutdown when:
-Transfer too many files over WiFi via SSH/SCP or a big fast download
-transfer too much data from the microSD or a flash drive over USB hostmode to /home/user/MyDocs
-trying to unzip large files
-big disc intensive operations such as apt-get upgrade with chroot Debian

I think it is the swap partition is brought int use to buffer but that is additional bandwidth to the EMMC where it just compounds the problem and everything bogs down when too much/unlimited disc access is permitted with no priority for system level access to non /home or swap partitions.

My wifes N900 came with a broken SD card slot and sometimes she needs to move a big chunk of files, she doesn't have the option of only using the emmc only in client mode where this problem doesn't come up. I find it annoying to have this big storage that cna only accept a few files at a time before locking the system sometimes even to the point of failure and automatic shutdown.

Ýes indeed, fix the hildon-filemanager to show the whole FS. IMO the application is nice and fast to use, but not be able to see home is a major drawback. For some bigger file management nothing competes to xterm...

Why not use a different filemanager?
The standard filemanager is good for newbies IMO.

Haha, because I dont know? Because I don't use it that much and the defaul is already installed :D I like to keep the number of applications in my menu to a minimum and I like the standard fileman because of it's speed and it just gets the job done. Nothing more, nothing less. Sometimes, filebox is a bit slow , hamster-filer is currently in devel so the standard is for me enough except it doesn't look in home.

Anyway, I thought filemanager is part of the hildon-DE, it should have just like the big DEs an option to view system files.

Have to admit, it's not really neccesary because of the 3rd party apps ;)

Hildon should start on the lockscreen. When you power up the phone (especially battery-switchers) you have to wait for it to boot before putting it in your pocket.
