Maemo Mapper for Windows?

Is there a free program like Maemo Mapper for Windows? GPS isn't necessary, just mapping.

No, google maps doesn't cache maps (unless you do some deep-down tweaking to allow either your browser or your caching proxy to cache dynamic pages). I've thought along similar lanes (wanting MM on Linux desktop), since I looked up some maps for my father on his home computer with a dial-up line. It's painful to try to piece together the right maps (for his holidays) when everything has to be re-downloaded whenever you move around.

Sorry, I didn't realize that you could zoom in and view maps conveniently offline with Google earth or maps; they seemed to be mainly online programs. I'll take a closer look. I have only used them when online, wereas I use Maemo Mapper offline all the time.

Well, I haven't been able to view google maps offline, so if that's possible then there's a trick I've missed (which could easily happen, I don't always look deeply!)

A possible way is running Maemo Mapper under Maemo Scratchbox ^^

It's not free, but Anquet Maps is quite good.

Unless you don't live within the UK...

Apparently, with Google Earth you can cache your results and use them for offline reference. I haven't tried it yet.

Might try USAPhotomaps (uses Terraserver and can add USGS road info)- whole directory can be burned to DVD if needed. A good demo/shareware mapping application is TopoFusion- it also uses Microsoft's Terraserver- has no maps but does neat 3d views of terrain- can also be used without a connection.
